49ers trade QB Pickett to Texans
7/27/2006
The 49ers on Thursday traded little-used quarterback Cody Pickett to the Houston Texans for a seventh round pick in the 2007 NFL draft.
Pickett, a 2004 draft pick out of Washington, played sparingly with the 49ers. He played on special teams and made two emergency starts at quarterback last season after injuries to starter Alex Smith and backup Ken Dorsey. He threw two interceptions and no touchdowns.
With Trent Dilfer and Jesse Palmer backing up Smith this season, Pickett's best chance to make the roster was as wide receiver, where he played on the 49ers scout team last season, often showing up defensive backs.
