49ers vs Bears (1 Viewer)

When the SF DBs aren't slipping, falling down or holding the Bears receivers, the others on defense have mastered the "Swiss Cheese" scheme. I thought after the embarrassment last year (41-10?) the Niners would show up with an axe to grind. Apparently not.
It is preseason still.....I doubt the Bears would put up 41 on them this year.
LOL... ya. sure it is. Then why have the Niners been so proud of their unblemished record and Alex Smith's play? It's preseason - it doesn't matter.
Are you worried about Benson? Or Grossmans fumble problem?
I find it amusing that Grossman throws for two TDs, 13 of 20 for 211 yds in less than three quarters, but everyone says, "Oh my goodness, he had a fumble!" Christ, I've never been on the Grossman bandwagon, but I think he is looking alright. He has great weapons, and he is in a position to really break out. Benson has looked alright. If he can stay healthy he will do fine. He looked better than Jones in the second half of the year. I wasn't thrilled with either of them at the end of the year, but now I think everyone is being too critical.

Who's watching this game, and is Benson looking as bad as his #s would indicate?? 19 carries for 33 yards?? That is flat ugly. Then, he loses a yard on the goal line, comes out, and Adrian Peterson punches it in from 3 yards out?? How bad does Benson actually suck?
pretty bad...but, we Sharks already KNEW he was gonna suck this year...

He's as soft as Ron Dayne, and almost as slow...just a guy who can't get it done...3 yards and a cloud of dust..

Bears' RB Adrian Peterson starts by week 5.

Everyone loves to hate the Bears.

Last week it was jump all over Grossman when he performed poorly. Tonight its rag on Benson night as his numbers don't look good. But we don't hear much about how good Grossman looked tonight. I hope the Bears make it to the Super Bowl again this year just so I can hear all the b-tching and moaning from the Bear haters.

You guys watch Benson play in the second half of the year last year? Benson was better than Jones. I was pissed that he didn't play, after getting dinged, in the Super Bowl. But I believe that Benson will be fine. The same people who are ripping Benson now, will be claiming they knew Benson would be solid later this year. The Chicken Little position seems to be popular around here.

I didnt see the game but this is two weeks in a row Benson has put out a very low YPC average. And this stat line is downright horrible, 19 carries for 33 yards 1.7 yards a carry. If I was a Benson owner I wouldnt be too happy right now

How'd that NFC Championship Game go in 1988....... :) The "soft" Niners were supposed to get killed in the 20 below with wind chill weather......How'd that work out for you?**ETA** Way to do the old El Foldo after Jerry Rice juked your boy on the sideline.....and you are going to call out the Niners in a pre-season game? Please step off before you are crushed by the Niner's 5 Lombardi Trophies......Yes I am a Niner fan, Yes I drafted tonight and Yes I am fired up.

OMG BURNED...

Seriously, cut the bs. Nobody cares about the any perceived rivalry between the Bears and Niners, or between their fans. Take that somewhere else.

Now, back on topic: Benson looks bad, Berrian looks good, Grossman still seems like he's going to be rollercoaster. Bears D looked good, even if they didn't have Gore (they didn't have Harris either). Little info can be drawn about the Niners here.

Preseason, if thats your standard you may get a little let down this year, Bears D is steller, if you think that thing called a Running Back is gonna do it for your Bears Offense, aint gonna happen. I will say it again right here, Benson is has too much chicken dung in him to ever be an NFL running Back. He is pure 100% soft girl man and dumb as a rock. When you pull yourself out of the Super Bowl, dude I dont care how much D you got. Grossman is to up and down and you dont have a Running Back. So my Niners got some work to do, but all of thier players will give it a 100% this year, where they started 2 years ago I'll take the improvment they have shown over that crap you call a football TEAM. :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting:

I hope so. I've been drafting him late in A LOT of leagues... He's so much more versatile.

Damn....

I didn't get to watch the game last night but I looked at the play-by-play and WHAT THE HELL WAS HOSTLER DOING!!! Smith played into the 3rd quarter and only passed 8 times? Pathetic...

Looking forward to hearing what Nolan has to say about the game..

Tell that to teams like the Cardinals, Cleveland etc.I'll take getting there instead of where the Bears were at not that long ago..

If the other Adrian is starting, the Bears are going to be hurtin'...nice player, but he doesn't have half the talent of a guy like Benson. Long time Bears fan here, just calling it like I see it...

The Benson = Bust train is leaving the station.

I still have to shake my head as to why they

traded away Thomas Jones.

Well, if you wanna go 'old school history' on me. Of the Niners and Bears, which team has more Hall of Famers, and which has won more championships in the NFL?Answer: The Bears and The Bears....and which team humiliated the other in more recent history (the past few seasons): The BearsChomp on that one with your cheese and wine Napa Valley boy.

I still have to shake my head as to why they traded away Thomas Jones.
(sigh)Once again, because at the end of this season he would have walked away in Free Agency. Because they got value for him at the best possible time to get value for him, as opposed to letting him walk after this year, getting nothing. Because the Bears had a RB that they spent a #4 pick on, making #4 money riding the pine for two years.

If Adrian Peterson is starting for us every week, we're toast. IMO He's not bad if needed him for a short period of time.

Benson isn't ever going to wow anyone, but he's the only chain mover we've got.

Because they knew Thomas Jones had a bad Achilles that was due to pop this year. That field was mush last night - I don't put much stock in reading too much into the rushing stats.

Including in Chicago. Sports radio here is a downer. All last year every radio sports show was just ripping apart Rex and the Bears as they marched to the Super Bowl; "terrible draft, Hester will fumble away a game, Rex should be benched". I get that sports radio is supposed to Monday morning quarterback and be critical, but last year had to be the most joyless Super Bowl team ever. Not sure what the deal is. Benson will be fine, Rex will be fine. Why even worry about Benson. He was drafted 4th overall, let's see what he can do. Let him start his first full year at RB in the NFL before burying the guy. For the life of me I don't get the Rex hate and stopped trying to figure it out. Fine, he isn't Marino or Montana, we get it. I'm just hoping for Erik Kramer circa 1995.As others who actually watched the game pointed out, there was no room to run. I didn't seen Benson miss any holes, there weren't any there. He was hitting the line hard and often got good lean to eek out some positive yards. The score didn't even come close to telling the story of this game. I think the 9ers first team had something like 9 total yards well into the second quarter. They were simply mauled. As much dirt as Rexy gets dumped on him, what's Alex Smith's deal? I bet most 9er fans would take Rex's stats from last year. Third year for the former #1 overall pick and he looks pedestrian. Does SF sports radio demand Dilfer to start?

How about just his stats? Same amount of career starts, we'll see how they compare this year. My money is on Grossman out performing Smith.

Local talk radio thinks Alex Smith is the Chosen One, although there was a lot debate on draft day between SF choosing Smith or Rodgers (SF dodged a bullet on that pick!). I think most fans appreciate that Dilfer, a local HS star, gets to finish his career in his hometown and with his favorite team growing up holding a clipboard and mentoring Smith.IMO, Alex Smith will be a good QB, but I don't see the Pro Bowl in his future.

Grossman, being the knucklehead he is, has more upside than Alex Smith. My

Alex Smith is a better fit for the personality of the 49er offense than Rex. But that's because the Niner offense is nothing to write home about other than possibly Frank Gore.
