49's release Antonio Bryant (1 Viewer)

49ers released Antonio Bryant.

San Francisco structured Bryant's contract so that they would take a minimal cap hit if they decided to cut bait quickly. His suspension sealed his time as a 49er. Talented yet inconsistent, Bryant will come at a bargain this offseason. He's now been dumped by three teams in as many years and is suspended for the first two games of 2007. The 49ers have a gigantic hole at receiver and will surely sign one of the top wideouts available.

Do we see SF possibly trade up with Cleveland to take Calvin at #3 now?????

Well maybe not straight up, but with Alex Smith under a new OC and no WR threat to throw to, they need to address that need BAD!!On a related note, Vernon Davis looks primed for a busy season.

He had some issues, but he is still young and a quality player. I think that he was starting to get a connection between him and A Smith. The ability to but Bryan, VD, and Gore out there was a good tandem. Wont be surprised to see Stallworth there next year.

Not straight up dude. Last time I ran the #s, it was pretty close if the 49ers gave up their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks for CJ.Sure, the cost is high...but this is a team in desperate need of a playmaker at WR who likely will have 8 picks in the first 4 rounds.

I'd love to see it happen.

Now if they have VD, Gore and CJ.....that's a nice compliment to help Smith mature and have some success.

I know not straight up. It would take a lot of picks to do that. I would love to see CJ in Red and Gold on sundays. Especially in our old jerseys, which we will be going back to in the next year so

there's a bunch of stud WRs in this draft. 49ers could trade down in the 1st and probably draft a couple.
Granted they could draft Ginn, but CJ really impressed coaches at the combine, and looks to be about as sure of a sure thing like Fitzgerald was coming out.But thats not a bad move either seeing as they will need to really get some depth at WR.Possibly Stokley comes to town?

I wouldn't be surprised to see them bring in Moulds to provide some veteran leadership.

My guess: Moulds/Stallworth are your 2 starting Wideouts next season..

They are in a great spot to just take Jarrett, Ginn or Bowe. And may be able to trade down and still do it.
I think they could trade out ofthe first round and still land Jarrett.
:moneybag: Well if thats the case, they can draft another position in the first round and just move up a few picks in the second round and get him.

It makes no sense for the team with the #26 offense and #26 defense and holes all over the place to give up three early picks to get one player. Which probably means the Niners will do it.

Don't be totally stunned if they take Dwayne Bowe. I'm not sure if his stock has truly gone up that much, but he fits Nolan's tough guy mold.

Ginn is also a realistic possibility. He would be a more versatile weapon, but a far riskier pick IMO.

I definitely the 49ers must have some sort of plan. Either in the first two rounds of the draft or in free agency/trade, look for them to bring in a pretty good WR. They wouldn't have cut Bryant unless they knew they could find someone to fill his spot. Bryan Gilmore isn't that someone.

I think that is more like there is a STUD wr in this draft and there may be 2 - 4 studs in this draft. I really think that CJ is clearly better than any of the other WRs. And I felt that way back in the beginning of the last college season. I've seen nothing to make me believe otherwise.Still, the safer play might be to take 2 at the next level and be more assured of getting at least one of them to be very good to great. If they take CJ they could have a 10+ year superstar but if he does happen to bust they may have just essential a whole draft go down the tubes.

The Niners have 8 picks in the first four rounds. I could see them moving some picks for a second first rounder, like they did last year. That way they could take a solid Nose Tackle and a WR like Ginn/Meacham/Bowe.

Would the Patriots take a long look at Bryant ?

I would think Drew Bennett would be the best fit,

but if he doesn't sign, then Bryant may be a viable option.

Someone will take a chance on him. New England? Minnesota? Kansas City? Tennessee? Atlanta? All are possibilities.

CJ is not going to be a 49er. You couldn't convince a team to give up their top 3 picks to move up and get Bush who was considered a once in a lifetime player. It's not going to happen for CJ. There are pleanty of quality receivers in this draft to address the niners long term WR needs. There aren't really any stud WR's in FA right now so I wouldn't be suprised to see SF trade one or 2 of their first day picks for a quality WR. Although, Nolan is a strong believer in building through the draft, as are a lot of the coaches who worked with Ozzie and Billick in Bal. so who knows?

I think they land either Clemens or Thomas in FA (not both) and look to fill the rest of the gaps through the draft.
