I almost listed this one as well. My parents had what I can only now surmise is the 'standard issue' of records for the 60's/70's parents--Jim Reeves, The First Family Rides again, Chet Atkins, Mormon Tabernacle Christmas, etc.; however, I don't remember them playing any of these albums, not even once. How about this, then?
5- Album - Whipped Cream and Other Delights - Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
My dad bought this. I knew every note of it, and I still do. It was the first album that I was aware of as actully being an album, rather than as just being on a big record. And the cover is awesome. The first time that cover art was important to me. My representative song will be Whipped Cream for no particular reason.

The difference being that the parents you mention actually listened to said records at some point. I didn't learn what The First Family Rides Again was all about until I was in college, and that's also when I first discovered it in the record cabinet. I think they even had Bob Newhart's "Button Down Mind" album in there as well, though again, it was never played as far as I remember.I think parents with Allan Sherman records had a different "standard issue"
I will say I remember this album as a kid and thought it was cool. And my dad did play it quite often. I remember "Big Iron" and "El Paso".When I was 5 I wasn't really into albums. Ok, maybe these:

i will address comedy in greater depth with tomorrow's pick, but my Dad had Rusty Warren & Redd Foxx party records AND the Norman Chubbyknuckle Choir, Christy Minstrels, Singing Crewcuts, Dancing Birchers and enough Mantovani to gag Iggy PopThe difference being that the parents you mention actually listened to said records at some point. I liked this album when I was tenish, but for other reasons...How about this, then?

All the horns...I get it.I liked this album when I was tenish, but for other reasons...
Were you in Milwaukee in the early 70s?10 years old 1974 - Elton John - Bennie and the Jets
Elton was all over the radio in the early 70's. Thought it was a pretty cool song with the hypnotic sound. I remember the Milwaukee Bucks organist always played this song doring the games.
hopefully not your introduction to frottage ...we had an ol' perv in our hood who would stumble down the street calling "tenish, anyone?"
No, the Bucks were on the NBA Game of the Week a lot in the '70's. I've only been there once. Were you in Milwaukee in the early 70s?
Oh well, was hoping to turn this into the Milwaukee during the 70s thread. No, the Bucks were on the NBA Game of the Week a lot in the '70's. I've only been there once.
confirmed: on so much here in the NYC area that Bobby Dandridge (#10) became my favorite playerNo, the Bucks were on the NBA Game of the Week a lot in the '70's. I've only been there once.
Does this help @Eephus
unfortunately the links dont take you straight there, you have to copy and paste. Also this is only up to 2017 when they banned the sex drugs and rock n roll draft. After that i kinda lost interest. Add them if they are easy to find.

Without the Beatles I would have gone this way as well. I remember 2 phases of my parent's music. The first phase was when I was in the 5 yr - 9 yr old old era was in a couple groupings. One group had a lot of New Christy Minstrels, Ray Conniff, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and Frank/Deano. Probably would have gone with New Christy Minstrels (close to Puff the Magic Dragon stuff).I almost listed this one as well. My parents had what I can only now surmise is the 'standard issue' of records for the 60's/70's parents--Jim Reeves, The First Family Rides again, Chet Atkins, Mormon Tabernacle Christmas, etc.; however, I don't remember them playing any of these albums, not even once.
Have to agree with this. I was still figuring out why boogers tasted funny, how come girls were so icky but pretty and the line not to cross when doing farts. You kids were some pretty hip five year olds
Oh well, was hoping to turn this into the Milwaukee during the 70s thread.
yeah, no doubt. The Beatles were so significant at that point to me there was no way I didn't name them.Have to agree with this. I was still figuring out why boogers tasted funny, how come girls were so icky but pretty and the line not to cross when doing farts.
I was chasing the other girls with daddy long legs spiders. They screamed like little girls and ran. I never did get that.Have to agree with this. I was still figuring out why boogers tasted funny, how come girls were so icky but pretty and the line not to cross when doing farts.
Worst crap ever to receive a buttload of airplay. I loathed him.Jim Reeves
I'm still working the third one outHave to agree with this. I was still figuring out why boogers tasted funny, how come girls were so icky but pretty and the line not to cross when doing farts.
I have a sneaking suspicion we arent going to be cheating off each other this time.No sniping
My grandparents played his gospel records sometimes. I've always liked the mix of him and Patsy Cline on Have You Ever Been Lonely.Worst crap ever to receive a buttload of airplay. I loathed him.Jim Reeves
Wait...why are you quoting me on that one...I didn't do it! Also have no idea who jim Reeves is.Worst crap ever to receive a buttload of airplay. I loathed him.Jim Reeves
pretty sure Mrs. Rannous is my mean grandma ...or she was close friends with my now deceased grandma (who we thought was too mean to die)It's a favorite.Ballad of Billy the Kid
I grew up in Wisconsin during the 70s, does that count?Oh well, was hoping to turn this into the Milwaukee during the 70s thread.

I think it's the whole Malcolm Gladwell "10,000 hours" thing.Have to agree with this. I was still figuring out why boogers tasted funny, how come girls were so icky but pretty and the line not to cross when doing farts.
Still???
Dammitall. I got sniped by Tim. WTF?Age 5 album- Jesus Christ Superstar
This was the original soundtrack record with Murray Head and Ian Gillan. My dad bought a reel to reel tape player and this album came with it. I was entranced; listened to it all day long. I still love it.
Sorry. You quoted the post with regard to the Mormons.Wait...why are you quoting me on that one...I didn't do it! Also have no idea who jim Reeves is.
HEY! Watch it there, whippersnapper!pretty sure Mrs. Rannous is my mean grandma ...or she was close friends with my now deceased grandma (who we thought was too mean to die)
