5-10-15-20 "Music of Our Lives" Draft - Round 14 (1 Viewer)

How about this, then?

5- Album -  Whipped Cream and Other Delights -  Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass

My dad bought this.  I knew every note of it, and I still do.  It was the first album that I was aware of as actully being an album, rather than as just being on a big record.  And the cover is awesome.  The first time that cover art was important to me.  My representative song will be Whipped Cream for no particular reason.
I almost listed this one as well.  My parents had what I can only now surmise is the 'standard issue' of records for the 60's/70's parents--Jim Reeves, The First Family Rides again, Chet Atkins, Mormon Tabernacle Christmas, etc.; however, I don't remember them playing any of these albums, not even once.

I think parents with Allan Sherman records had a different "standard issue"

The difference being that the parents you mention actually listened to said records at some point. I didn't learn what The First Family Rides Again was all about until I was in college, and that's also when I first discovered it in the record cabinet.  I think they even had Bob Newhart's "Button Down Mind" album in there as well, though again, it was never played as far as I remember.

i will address comedy in greater depth with tomorrow's pick, but my Dad had Rusty Warren & Redd Foxx party records AND the Norman Chubbyknuckle Choir, Christy Minstrels, Singing Crewcuts, Dancing Birchers and enough Mantovani to gag Iggy Pop

I liked this album when I was tenish, but for other reasons...

10 years old 1974 - Elton John - Bennie and the Jets

Elton was all over the radio in the early 70's.  Thought it was a pretty cool song with the hypnotic sound.  I remember the Milwaukee Bucks organist always played this song doring the games.

Were you in Milwaukee in the early 70s?

@Northern Voice

if you have room in one of your ops, here is the majority of music drafts done previously. I linked as many as i could previously before i got bored

Does this help @Eephus

unfortunately the links dont take you straight there, you have to copy and paste. Also this is only up to 2017 when they banned the sex drugs and rock n roll draft. After that i kinda lost interest. Add them if they are easy to find.

Without the Beatles I would have gone this way as well.  I remember 2 phases of my parent's music.  The first phase was when I was in the 5 yr - 9 yr old old era was in a couple groupings.  One group had a lot of New Christy Minstrels, Ray Conniff, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and Frank/Deano.  Probably would have gone with New Christy Minstrels (close to Puff the Magic Dragon stuff).

Have to agree with this. I was still figuring out why boogers tasted funny, how come girls were so icky but pretty and the line not to cross when doing farts.
yeah, no doubt.  The Beatles were so significant at that point to me there was no way I didn't name them.

I grew up in a neighborhood where the majority of the kids were 5-6 years older than me.  They didn't even start buying albums for a couple more years.  If it wasn't on AM radio ...I didn't hear it.  We had the Beatles cartoons and their beginning popular songs.  For us as kids, if their new songs didn't hit the AM charts ...we didn't hear it.  If it wasn't pure pop - as kids, we didn't understand or like it.  These adorable, non-threatening guys started looking and talking like the images our parents saw wanting to overthrow their lives ...

I was interested in "They're Coming To Take Me Away", zany radio DJs,  and Gary Lewis and the Playboys as I was playing $1/day miniature golf, playing baseball and the Cincinnati Reds on radio.  I wanted to hold the Beatles and their music as they were introduced to me - young, innocent, and the best pop I had ever heard.

5 years old - Billy Joel, Piano Man

My parents listened to a lot of really bad music. Air Supply, Jefferson Starship, REO Speedwagon, etc. I was beaten to shreds with terrible 80's music, but on one particular vacation car ride they finally got my attention with two artists. Neil Diamond and this guy. So why Billy? Cause Neil didn't have a complete album. Or at least my ears weren't exposed to one. My jaw had to be picked up off the floor the first time I heard the Ballad of Billy the Kid and I'll never forget mom smacking dad's arm listening to the lyrics in Captain Jack. So...this is it.

My choice is a compilation album. It was either that or the album of the same name from the song that opens this compilation album.

First things first, the album cover. A pair of short shorts ripped significantly showing a bare bottom. Fascinated me

Ripper 76

Almost half are Australian/NZ artists including the Bee Gees and Split Enz

Sherbet were hearthrobs and Howzat was the number one song in the land. Supernaughts ode to bisexuality was incredibly audacious and not too subtle. Ol 55 were a 50s tribute act. Billy Thorpe was an aussie icon. Skyhooks would have been huge internationally if they had decent representation. Jon English was creepily weird

of the internationals Maxine Nightingale and Donna Summer were exotically beautiful, while Thin Lizzy, 10cc and Billy Ocean were the big hits of the day. Foxs S s single bed was incredibly erotic

I still listen to this for the nostalgia and this was the first album i blasted non stop for months. It was the only album i had lol

A1 Sherbet - Howzat

A2 Maxine Nightingale- Right Back Where We Started From
A3 Elvin Bishop- Fooled Around and Fell in Love
A4 Silver Studs- Happy Days
A5 Billy Thorpe- It's Almost Summer
A6 Thin Lizzy - The Boys are back in town https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SGZqDzb__bw
A7 Fox- S-S-S-Single Bed
A8 Roxy Music- Love Is the Drug
A9 Nazareth- Love Hurts
A10 Skyhooks- Million Dollar Riff
B1 Billy Ocean- Love Really Hurts Without You
B2 Donna Summer- Love to Love You Baby
B3 Ol' 55- On The Prowl
B4 Bee Gees- Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)
B5 Supernaut- I Like It Both Ways
B6 Jon English- Hollywood Seven
B7 Split Enz- Late Last Night
B8 C.W. McCall- Convoy
B9 Daryl Braithwaite- Old Sid
B10 10cc- I'm Not in Love

Age 5 album- Jesus Christ Superstar

This was the original soundtrack record with Murray Head and Ian Gillan. My dad bought a reel to reel tape player and this album came with it. I was entranced; listened to it all day long. I still love it.

Jesus was my Che. Still is. Ian Gillan one of the very few voices worthy of him
