8 month cruise to 59 countries and 113 port cities? (1 Viewer)

Ultimate World Cruise

Considering all excursions, food, tips, WiFi as well as business class travel to and from are covered, the price tag of $100K isn't THAT unreasonable.

This looks pretty awesome. And cheaper than going to space.

Yep. This over space.

I may not get laid on earth, but I suspect I will have better odds on the cruise than in a can.

Depends tho..

Eh, still a lot of $ for a lay. So, I'd pick the cruise for the amount of people that I would meet.

A former co-worker is looking into this. He goes on 2-3 cruises per year and has a bunch of rewards points saved up.

I'd choose that over space but would rather just take the money and travel on my own.  Arriving at a port and walking around for a day doesn't do much for me.

I don't know.  There may only be a handful of people in that can, but they've been cut off from others for a while.  They may be feeling a little frisky with a fresh face on board.

I could see the appeal if you aren't healthy/mobile enough to just explore cities for a few days.

Actually, if you look at the itinerary, there are multiple ports of call with 2-3 days scheduled.

Excellent point.

Now - are they my type? 🤔

Yeah, me too.

I would start on the Mediterranean in Southern Spain, and work my way around the sea north - east - south - west - until I completed the circle in Africa at the Strait of Gibraltar.

I would focus on the oldest section of each area I travel through - Ancient to Medieval then Renaissance.

I would try to back pack and make it last as long as possible - maybe even making my way to other areas.

Absolutely.  Great choice if you're retired or immobile.   For me personally I don't feel you get the true experience of a country or the culture just cruising the tourist spots for a day or two.  It's like going to NYC and just hanging in Times Square.

Note:  I hate cruises in general

I'd like to take the before and after weight of everyone on that cruise.  Over/under on average weight gained is 100 pounds.

I am guessing that is $100k per person, so $200k for 240 days.  That is $833 per day.   Too pricey, imho.   I would rather pick 20 great cities and spend a week in each and probably drop about $400 per day.  Better experience and cheaper.

I like to see the sites when I go somewhere new.  However, there is little better than wandering down streets you don't know, will likely never find again, and are filled with locals.  Those are the moments that really stay with you.

8 months too long. I’m just so anti Cruise/anything AI these days. I’ll do Alaska but maybe that’s it the rest of my life

Alaska cruise was phenomenal. Highly, highly recommend.
Agreed. Only thing I would have changed for our cruise (Inside Passage) was sail from Seward/Anchorage to Vancouver rather than the other way resulting in an extra 2.5 hours or so of flight time.

The best part of the Alaskan cruise is going thru Glacier Bay National Park. The Rangers pop on the boat for passport stamps (for those that like that stuff)

Go out on deck and you need full winter gear in August. It truly is one of the most beautiful places we have been. Loved our Alaska cruise.

I wouldnt do it if it was free.  Partly because it seems awful and because I need income.

Now, if somehow I won this cruise and my job would pay me my normal rate while I was gone I would at least think about it.  Still probably a no though.

That trip just looks like a big pain in the ### to me.  Not my style, but I applaud their sense of adventure.
Boils down to what "style" you can afford. They were young, in good shape and adventurous. Plus they didn't do one day cruise ports, they saw the world.

They got sick is what they did...

Sickness Scores:

Rob – 6 (3 times flu, cold sore crises, diarrhea and a twisted ankle)

Nat – 9 (I won!!! Back pain, mosquito bites allergy, urinary infection, keen injury, 2 times flu, diarrhea and migraine crises)

It was over a year's time. They received medical attention and had insurance. Hell, I had diarrhea on my last Celebrity Cruise in a large suite and my wife twisted her ankle walking down a gang plank!

Did you get the flu 3 times during the last year?

I was on a cruise in May and one couple we met was on their 4th straight week on the same ship!  It was actually pretty cool because the ship didn't do the same itinerary each week.  They had money and both were in their 50s.

Uh, no. But I did sneeze the other day. They also said they had a "keen injury" which they didn't elaborate on. I'm 61, no way I'm going that route. We travel luxury class these days. I just remember seeing that story and threw it out there for the younger, Romancing the Stone crowd.

I am guessing the "younger" crowd probably has no idea what you are talking about here.

That's probably a typo and meant knee injury. I'm curious about keen injuries, but leave my leg joins alone.
