"Sister Jean", actual name was Jean Dolores Schmidt, BVM, was an American religious sister of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and chaplain for the Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team at Loyola University Chicago. She was 106 when she died.

John's voice blended so well with Justin Hayward's that it was often hard to discern whose voice was who's when they sang together.

Here is his best known song, Ride My See Saw. This is the album version that includes the spoken intro by fellow recently deceased Moodie Mike Pinder.

Only Hayward is left from their classic 1967-78 lineup.

Yes, that song and "I'm Just A Singer" were probably my favorite songs written by Lodge.

damn. I'm not a big fan of genre one way or the other, but every one of his albums worked for me.

Ace was my favorite of the original lineup, and I sadly never saw that lineup. I did catch a solo performance years ago.

Very sad.

eta - I did see the original lineup. I had forgotten that one of the several "Final Tours" I saw was a reunion one in 2000.

In my opinion, he’s the only member of the original four that could have successfully had a solo career, and he did.

Also worth re-spinning the Frehley's Comet debut album. Probably the best guitar work of his career.
 
The beginning of the end of Ace's tenure with Kiss was in this infamous 1979 appearance on the Tom Snyder talk show. Ace was visibly hammered and cackling, with Peter amused, Paul tolerating it, and Gene clearly pissed.

Seems like they worked things out later in life, but the more free-spirited Ace and Peter were just oil and water to the serious/business-minded Paul and Gene.

I told my wife last night, if he just falls and doesn’t hit his head, nothing newsworthy. But he evidently hit his head, and that’s not good.
 
Think it was early '90s but saw Ace play at some small venue in upstate NY, basically a bar. We were hanging out drinking in the bar before the show and a van pulled up outside, some guy climbs out, goes to the other side of the van, opens the door, and drags this comatose guy and props him up. They bring him in and lean him up against the wall in a corner so he doesn't topple over, then go back out and bring in the gear. They set up, leaving Ace in that corner, unconscious. When they are ready they tap him awake and he comes to, stumbles on to the stage and absolutely wails on his guitar for like an hour and change. Great playing from a guitarist I didn't think was that good and didn't seem to be in any condition to play anything. Maybe 100-150 people there but we were all really into it. Not sure Ace knew where he was the entire time. When he's done he stumbles off stage and they pack him back in the van and drive off. His handlers were impressive.

Kiss is a horrible band, but I respect Ace's musicianship. His covers of New York Groove and Do Ya shows he at least appreciated good music.

Huh. Never heard the original New York Groove by Hello before or knew Ace covered Do Ya (original by The Move and then ELO).

Family Jewels really showed Gene was all about the business and didn't really care about the music. If it sold, it was good.

Just 48. Came out of nowhere to me but I guess he had a liver transplant about a decade ago. For all the crap LB gets as a band, not a fan myself, they actually are some pretty talented musicians.

I actually never appreciated how good of a guitarist Wes Borland was until recently. Seems like they’ve been having a good run sad to see Rivers pass.

Actually I've listened to the original New York Groove a few times now. I find Ace's claim very suspicious that he never heard the original before doing his cover.
