Devil's Advocate
Anybody else watching this? What an amazing moment when Reggie announced Jerome's death to the crowd at The Vet.

Everyone gasped all at once. You could feel the gut punch. Very sad.

Great work by NFL Films. Nothing is more bittersweet than unrealized potential:

- first for the Eagles 1989-91 teams (Paup's low hit that ended Cunningham's season in '91 was tough to rewatch)

- then for Jerome Brown (so dominant only to pass away so young, and you're right, that clip of Reggie announcing the passing at Vet during the Billy Graham crusade was quite the moment)

- then for the Eagles after Reggie left (dark days until McNabb and Reid arrived - F U BRAMAN)

- then for Reggie himself who had planned a busy and active retirement for himself only to pass away in his early 40s.

I haven't watched it yet, but I have to say that I've gotten more and more annoyed as the promos have been played incessantly. The "Here comes Jesus" comment struck me as odd. The other thing that bothers me is the "life unfulfilled" portrayal of Brown's untimely death. The guy was an idiot and he paid the price for it. But what about his 4 or 5 or 6-year old nephew who he killed? That's the real tragedy. Talk about life unfulfilled. What did they have to say about that?

Reggie was a man of intense faith. What's so odd about that?Just because he was an idiot doesn't mean he deserved death or the kid with him. A tragedy is a tragedy. One isn't more real than the other.

I've never owned an NFL jersey, I sit at age 43.....I continuously ponder on which one I will buy to wear on Friday's at work every year. I just can't seem to do it. As odd as it seems, there are only 2 I would consider 92 or 99, I just dont want to buy 1 or wear only 1 as i would feel I would be slighting the other. I just cant wear both at the same time!

R.I.P Jerome and Reggie

As a follow NFL Network addict, I agree. I mean, you could literally see the same 30-second trailer 100 times in a week. Not sure what to do about it (hey, maybe sell some actual ad space?) but it absolutely grates on me. I shuddered when I saw the Warner promo this week, bracing myself for what I'd have to get used to for the next 7 days.

Yeah, that was the most memorable part for me. The show was well done. Clyde Simmons didn't get much mention, but having the three of them on one line was pretty absurd. Along with the Purple People Eaters, the late '60s Rams, the mid-'80s Bears and the '70s Steelers, probably a top-five DL of all time.

Had to be a tough decision trying to figure out whether or not to tell the crowd at the Graham thing. I imagine he felt like it was up to him to bring everybody together and share in the communitys grief. Crazy timing. And did I miss something or was that Michael Irvin clip about playing at the vet never used I'm the body of the show? it ran as a teaser going into commercial and I dint remember seeing it after that. It always blew my mind that they allowed Philly to use that field. As if the environment wasn't hostile enough, you had a hire likelihood of being injured there. Stupid. Eagles fans always seem to be so proud of the vet... The place was an embarrassment.

Reggie White, Santana Dotson, Gilbert Brown, and Sean Jones was pretty awesome as well. Can you remember any of the linebackers from that #1 overall defense from 1996?

I'm a Packers fan and I'm struggling. The only one I recalled was George Koonce.

I love NFLN but I have to watch all their programming on DVR. The same 4 commercials on a seemingly endless loop is torture.

Haven't watched it yet. Reggie was a beast of a football player but a religious fanatic. Jerome paid the price for his behavior. It's sad that they died early but that's life...

Meh... He was a big man who lived life big... religion was a big part of that. But like Golic said in the show, he never pushed it on anybody... everybody loved the guy... he wasn't all damnation this, damnation that (unless you're gay :P )

I don't know. I'm not a religious person and I'm a Reggie fan and I always kind of found that aspect of him kind of annoying. I like that he learned Hebrew to read the OT in it's native tongue though... I really respect that. Shows he had some seeker to him to instead of being a blind believer.

RIP 99 & 92

He was 12. They mentioned it and showed his picture a few times. Showed his mom (or aunt or sister) talking about when/how they got the news. It was also established prior that Brown had a "need for speed" and was a reckless and dangerous driver.

So was Reggie calling himself Jesus? Or was he calling upon Jesus to smite the QB?I didn't say that Brown deserved death. But killing himself because he was an idiot is a whole lot different than taking that little boy with him. Yes, that's a bigger tragedy.

Let me give some help. Wayne Simmons played OLB at the time and was just coming into his own and injured his knee next season. Koonce was there but I think he got hurt during the playoffs. Former Bear Ron Cox was a LB during the playoffs. There is another guy out there but I cant get the name off the top of my head.I was lucky to shake Reggie's hand as he went around field day after they lost the Super Bowl. My ex wife was passed over because some kid dropped his foam hand next to her. Reggie picked it up and handed it to the kid never touching her freezing hand.Update: Brian Williams was the other OLB. Solid guys but nothing over the top.

For what it's worth, the Warner one was excellent. Warner's story is incredible, and 45 mins really doesn't do it justice. Not knocking NFLN, but zipping through his '99 season in about 5 mins is just crazy. You could do 2 and a half hours on Warner and not run out of material. Also think Martz is fantastic in these things (he was great in the Marshall Faulk rush to Canton piece).

Martz comes across as regretful to an extent which to me speaks to his honesty.
