How to Rank Achane (1 Viewer)

If the fish had garbage/plodders behind Mostert and Achane I'd say DA is a league winner barring injury to him. But..... I don't like the fact he also has Wright in the picture who is larger and almost as fast. They have 3 guys all capable of breaking a long run and catching the ball - I think. So those thinking 32 year old Mostert won't last and DA then becomes a bell cow - i dunno. Any comments on how Wright might factor in? He is larger and younger. Could be the goal line vulture.
This is part of the potential problem for Achane. Miami has a solid core in Mostert, Achane, Wright, and Wilson with Brooks and Ahmed in reserve. How likely are they to give a huge workload to Achane and have the other guys remain idle on the sidelines?

Here are the RBs in the 3 seasons that McDaniel has been a HC or OC that a player has averaged 10+ carries per game in a season:

2023: Mostert 13.9
2022: Mostert 11.3, Wilson 10.5
2021: Mitchell 18.8 (Mostert, Wilson, Sermon all injured for SF)

And as RB Coordinator in SF:
2020: Mostert 13.0, Wilson 10.5
2019: None
2018: Wilson 11.0, Breda 10.9
2017: Hyde 15.0 (Mostert injured)

Short of injuries, McDaniel so far hasn't really shown that he wants to keep feeding one back as a bell cow. Certainly, injuries could happen to get Achane more work, but Achane also could get injured and free up touches for other backs.

From Hayden Winks at Underdog (who is fantastic):

19. RB8 De'Von Achane - There have been 533 qualifying RBs since 2018 in my fantasy points over expected model, and Achane's 2023 season was the very best. He scored 5.4 more half PPR points than his usage would indicate, thanks to a ridiculous 5.2 TDs over expected. Achane did so with speed and contact balance, perfectly aligning with coach Mike McDaniels' outside zone and pitch-heavy scheme. His 7.4 yards per carry were the best of any RB since 2000 (min. 100 carries), but that's an unsustainable clip of course. The other 19 RBs to sit above 5.5 YPC watched their average drop by 1.1 yards the following regular season. Only once did a RB in that sample increase their YPC (Jamaal Charles).... All this said, Achane will be a model dunker for a long time in this offense. If he went from 5.4 to 3.0 fantasy points over expected this year while keeping his same usage, Achane still would've been the per-game RB14 last year. There's a chance he sees more volume this year, too, so he looks like a boom-bust low-end RB1, even after factoring in regression.

While Mostert is no Frank Gore, the latter retired at 39. I'm not sure it’s a given that Mostert won't last the season.
I agree. Why would anyone assume that? Just because used to be injury prone and is another year older, isn’t something I would count on. Especially since he looked good last year.
