A Gates Owners (1 Viewer)

Getting worried yet?I am as Rivers is AWFUL
Nah, not yet. I really think their offense is much better when they run the passing game through Gates. He should be one or two in the progressions, not 3 or 4. Not that I know they are doing this, but I think when you see Rivers go to him early and often, their offense is at its best. I think Norv will see that and get him more involved.

Do you really trust Norv? I don't. I sat Gates for Gonzo today, and that didn't work out either. Going to lead to an upset loss this week.

The same Rivers was throwing the ball in weeks 1-8 as in weeks 9 and 10. Fantasy football is not consistent. We just live with that or we go crazy.1) 9 107 1 2) 7 77 1 3) 11 113 4) 6 79 5) 7 113 1 6) 3 58 7) Bye 8) 3 92 2 9) 1 10 10) 3 26 (in progress)

doesnt seem like the chambers arrival has done any good for gates numbers, though it seems it is more rivers poor play then gates having less targets because of chambers, plus all the special teams td's during the colts game doesnt help either.

Yes, all Gates owners should panic. Trade him now while you can still get something in return.

I'll grant that last week was really puzzling for Gates because it looked like such a good matchup.

This week is more fluky between the special teams scores and the weather conditions definitely affecting things. Not to mention the pass interference on Gates that didn't get called which killed a drive.

Well as a Gates owner, I'm panicking. Rivers is terrible and IMHO, the arrival of Chambers doesn't help. Teams will constantly double Gates. Rivers will just have to try to dump off to LT all day... booooo!

It isn't as if Rivers wasn't the one throwing to Gates all year before the last two weeks. Gates will be fine, he is allowed to have a couple down weeks during this great year that he is having.

He's been a stud all year long, people were talking about the best season for a tight end ever, and after two down weeks, he's done. Philip Rivers has played inconsistent all year long, and Gates has been a full blown stud. Chambers arrival should help DRAW COVERAGE AWAY from Gates. In theory, it could draw targets away, but, if he's getting open more often, more targets go along with that...

ESPN NFL Matchup did a great analysis of Rivers' play in the MINN game. He missed an opportunity to hit a wide-open Gates for a 20+ yd gain because he misread the pressure. He wasn't doing this last year or earlier this season. Expect the entire passing game to struggle unless, and until, Rivers improves. Do you believe Norv can coach him out of this slump? I don't. But most Gates owners can't bench him, so this is probably a moot point. But temper your expectations until you see Rivers stand in and make throws against pressure in face.

The shift from 5-7 catch games to 3 catch games the past 4 weeks has me a little nervous.... Last night could have turned out better though if there weren't some flukey factors involved. 1. The Chargers got a big league from def/special teams that put them in a more conservative game plan immedialty. 2. The weather was terrible. 3. Rivers poor play. On one play, Gates was past a defender on a sideline route and the safety was late when Rivers rushed the throw from some minor pressure and Gates had to stop and come back for an uncatchable ball. A good throw and its a 3o yd pass. Another, Rivers rolled out and Gates was wide open in the flat, but a defender was in Rivers lane and he hesitated too much, then threw the ball away.

I think Brees can work it out a little, get back to earlier in the season and missed oppurtunities will start to become completions... I hope...

Do you know something the rest of us don't? :goodposting:

I have him in about half my leagues. Even went so far as to draft him in first round (12th) and took a lot of heckling. In that league, receptions for TEs are 2pts. He has led the way to 10-0 and 100 points up on anyone else. I am not really worried about him. The colts do have a good pass D and with the weather and score, didn't expect much after about the first 10 minutes of the game. I hope he comes back strong in my playoffs, though. He has good matchups weeks 15 and 16...Detroit and Denver. Denver is 8th against the pass, but I think it is a good matchup for him. Time will tell.

1 catch for -1 yard vs K.C. :sadbanana:
What happened? I didn't see the game? double coverage?
they couldnt stop LT. So you run the ball
From of fantsy perspective, Gates games was horrible. From a Chargers perspective, it doesn't matter. KC defends him well....but that just left LT and other receivers open to making plays. I am glad Rivers would rather take a sack, hand off to LT, or look to his other WR options, then just forcing it to Gates when that is the one player KC was trying to take away.

NO! That is NOT acceptable! I don't care if the Chargers win or not. He needs to force the ball into Gates on every play. Doesn't Rivers care at all about my fantasy team?

Exactly!! I lost 133.36 to 131.5 and I was eliminated from a playoff spot with Gates scoring a whopping 0 pts. I am the 3rd highest coring team in the damn league!!!! :goodposting:

In a PPR dynasty, I was offered Gates for my KJ and V. Davis. I turned it down. At this point, I'm not sure I'd trade Cooley for Gates with Rivers instability.

How many targets did Gates have??

Even if you are running well, and trying to run the clock, that's the perfect time to use a weapon like Gates....

I can't believe you guys. Complaining about Gates? Welcome to the unreliable/inconsistant world of Fantasy Tight Ends. You guys have been spoiled too long. Try being a Heap owner!

Don't know what you're talking about man... Heap is the most consistent TE out there right now. :drumroll:

this is madness. everybody has bad games. gates has had bad games and bounced back before. there is no evidence to think that gates' amazing career could be turning towards the down swing. well, it is possible that he could have a career year and never match this type of production again, but what i mean by down swing is going from stud to average or below average. that WON'T be happening anytime soon. if ever! please stop!
