Aaron Kampman question (1 Viewer)

Hook Em'

I just wanted to see what ya'll thought about Kampman, and if you think he can repeat his sucess from last season. I looked at his stats over the past few years, and last season was the first that he had over 6 sacks. He went for 6.5 sacks in 05 to 15.5 sacks in 06. I am thinking about trading for him, but just wanted to get ya'lls input into how you think he will perfom this season, and future seasons. Thanks.

I can't say he will get 15 sacks, but I think he will get at least 10-12 sacks minimum. When you consider he has had back to back seasons of 59 solo tackles and over 80 total tackles both seasons, its hard to not have him near the top of your ratings. Those tackle numbers are insane for a lineman.

When Harrell plays he should take up 2 blockers so Kampman's numbers should only improve.

I think this is seriously optimistic. Harrell, a rookie coming off a significant upper body injury, is highly unlikely to attract more attention than the primary pass rushing threat. I'll be shocked if Kampman can improve on a 59 solo (78 total), 15 plus sack stat line, more so because of the ceiling of any defensive end not because I think Kampman wasn't that good.I'd prepare for some regression but Kampman should have another very fine statistical season. The Packer defensive surrounding cast is more than good enough to keep teams from focusing completely on him. Also of note, it was very refreshing to see a player have a career year after signing a nice contract extension.

I'm thinking long term. This season I can see 10 sacks, 2 FF and 60 total tackles but if Harrell is healed see Kampman's numbers increase in time. Us Packer fans are always optmistic this time of year.

I don't see the injury as something to worry about. All reports are that he's completely healed. The Packers were playing it safe in OTAs. The team doctors have already OK'd him to go full contact once TC opens. The only issue is that it will probably take until October for him to get his full strength back in his arm.

On the other side of the coin, KGB will be used primarily as a pass rusher this season. This should make either the total team sacks increase, or KGB will end up stealing some of the numbers from the rest of the D-line.

Don't sleep on the Packers defense this season. There is going to be a crazy pass rush. Turnover city!

(I'll take my goggles off soon, but seriously this DL is going to be very, very good)

Thank ya'll for the replys. I pulled the trigger on a trade for Kampman, so I am hoping that ya'll are right  Thanks again

I know, but even after healing it takes a long time for muscles to regain strength and endurance.Kffl:Tom Pelissero, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers DT Justin Harrell (biceps) might not be at full strength when training camp opens July 28. There is also a chance he will not be at full strength at any point during the 2007 season. The muscle recovery is gradual. "(It takes) a year to even a year-and-a-half before muscles will feel fully recovered, and (sustained strength) is one of the last things to come back. Even when someone is in the weight room and says, 'This feels 100 percent,' they'll notice it fatigues faster," said Dr. Randall Mohler, a surgeon who specializes in sports medicine at the California Orthopaedic Institute.

i understand all that, but the bicep isn't used all that much for pushing strength, really not used for much of anything for DLineman except for looks and maybe the occasional swim move/head slap)

here is a test ... walk up to a brick wall and assume the position and push (probably about as much resistence as we'd get from pushing on an NFL OLineman  )

while doing this take one arm off the wall and feel your bicep ... see how you can roll it around as it is not even contracting

obviously the time the arm would be in a sling would also atrophy the other arm muscles that are much more needed, but i think Justin will be fine

(i am biased as a coach at the high school where Justin went to school) :2cents:

now back on topic, i just picked Kampman and am thrilled at the tackle numbers he gives, and Harrell can only help, he won't take any tackles away but may occupy an extra blocker every once in awhile

I'm with ya man. :D I remember Gilbert Brown pushing 2 blockers into the QB and long for those days again.
