Adam Vinatieri announces his retirement (1 Viewer)

I assume he is a Hall of Fame kicker which there simply are not that many of.

He announced his retirement from the NFL today. He was involved in so many high level Playoff games and won 4 Super Bowls over his career.

You score more points in history than any other player and kick so many historic kicks, how are you not first ballot?

I believe there are 4 kickers in the HOF.  AV should be the fifth.

Morten Andersen, George Blanda, Lou Groza and Jan Stenerud

Justin Tucker and yes Stephen Gostkowski should both be potential Hall of Fame kickers when it is all said and done, Tucker has to be about the best currently in the NFL, yes/no?

Tucker is/was money.  I see Gostkowski as more of a right place/right time guy and I wouldn't think he sniffs the hall.

Vinateri is a lock for the HOF. The guy he kicked to on the opening kick-off in SB 41, Devin Hester, who returned it for a TD, is a more interesting case for HOF. Vinateti made a good positional kick as directed. He got his jersey grass-stained trying to make the tackle on Hester.

Ghost was good but he doesnt have near the longevity of performance than Vinateri has or other HoF kickers like Morten Anderson have yet. Ghost would need to play 9 more seasons to match AV. Its possible I suppose but still a long way to go.

Only four kickers in the hall and they include names of legend.  Blanda doubled as a QB and kicker; Groza played offensive tackle.  Stenerud was a pioneer in kicker specialization.  In fact, that might explain why he is the hall in the first place.  Morten Andersen, with a 25 year career, is the only other pure place kicker in the hall.  Of course, punter Ray Guy is also enshrined.   If Gostkowski played 9 more years, I guess his career would be comparable to Andersen although I'm not sure what the criteria would be as so few have made the cut.

Kicker in the hall?  It's a high bar...  Vinatieri's career checks every box; perhaps unrivaled in critical kicks at critical times.
