AFC East - Worst Division in NFL? (1 Viewer)

pats win again

jets beat another division leader

miami beats another division leader

buffalo starts their 4th string QB after THREE go down with injury and still have a solid look at beating a division leader
Seriously. The Bills win that game with anyone other then Jeff Tuel at QB. He lost them that game with that terrible decision at the goaline on 3rd down. That was a 14 point swing and if they just run it in for the TD, instead of trying to pass with their UDFA QB, they go up 2 scores and have all the momentum.

BUF was seriously beating them pretty badly up until that point. They put up over 450 yards on the big, bad KC defense.

That's a totally different game with EJ Manuel in there or even Thad Lewis. Jeff Tuel is absolutely terrible; 4th string QB pretty much.

The AFC East kinda stinks.
a 7-3 team lost to another 7-3 team! Condemn the whole division!
Well, technically it was a 7-2 team losing to a 6-3 team. But that's a minor detail. I'm looking at the division from top to bottom. The Jets, Dolphins, and Bills have a combined -134 point differential.

The AFC East is not good at football.
Two divisions, the AFCS and NFCS both have two teams with 2 wins or less. Yeah the AFCE is bad, but some divisions are clearly worse. This coming from a Raven's fan that wishes the Pats didn't stroll into the playoffs every year.

But they aren't as bad as advertised. These bottom 3 teams have quality wins against the Colts, Bengals, Saints and the Panthers.

Everyone in Boston needs to calm down, I bet local radio is going nuts this am. I remember the Pats being decimated in the Dome in 2009, and they have lost badly before, especially on the road.

The Pats still play in the AFCE, even if they are mediocre at this point they are still just less mediocre than the Bills, Jets and Phins. I think the Pats still win the East. After that, who knows. But they have the best home field advantage in the league in terms of actual winning percentage. And 3 of their first 4 games have come on the road. (Saints fans, also 3 of 1st 4 on the road, can commiserate.). And 4 of their next 5 are at home, where they thrive.

In terms of FF, BB will make adjustments. Something new will emerge from this team, whether it's the return of Vereen, or Amendola or Wright or White or Dobson or LaFell, but something is going to change. Gronk has also been underused and I bet that's about to change. Edelman will continue on.

However I think the most surprising thing to me has not been the decline of the offense but how bad the defense has been. I really thought that would be a major improvement this year. The defense, not the offense, is their biggest problem.

It just seems like you're trying too hard. Their D played one bad half prior to last night. The offense played a couple good halves with lots of help from Miami & Matt Cassell turnovers.

Their all-world QB - the primary reason for that home win % (and also the great road %) has clearly lost something. I don't think even most NE homers would say they have close to the best HFA. That '09 season you mention ended getting run out of their own stadium in the wildcard round. Probably not coincidentally, #12 wasn't totally himself that year off the knee injury. If he is again not himself due to Father Time (who is still undefeated btw) that's kind of a big problem. Maybe not big enough to lose this division full of sorry QB's, granted.

For all the beating the AFC East takes in reputation, here are their aggregate records in games above/below .500: They win more than the lose and are, generally, an above average division. Only once in the past 5+ seasons does the division have a losing record. And, only 3 times in 10 years.
