You are out of your mind.I picked up James this week in one league and assuming Jennings is out, I am playing him in my flex over Curry, Edwards, Marshall and J Lewis.
I picked up James this week in one league and assuming Jennings is out, I am playing him in my flex over Curry, Edwards, Marshall and J Lewis. With GB matched against NYG, I project about 8 -10 targets which should yield decent catches, yards and a touchdown this week. James productivity will be extremely eratic week-to-week, depending on the Jennings situation, and the game match-up.
I disgree with everything bolded above.Curry has a terrible match-up this week against Bailey. Edwards stats are not reliable until Cleve's QB situation gets fixed. Ditto for J. Lewis. I like Marshall, but I'm in a PPR league, and this week J Jones gets more targets from Favre than Marshall gets from Cutler. Watch and learn, Colin.
Is this fact or speculation?and this week J Jones gets more targets from Favre than Marshall gets from Cutler.
They had the same number last week, so clearly MF is expecting something special. Is this fact or speculation?and this week J Jones gets more targets from Favre than Marshall gets from Cutler.
All of this is true. I'm hoping for a good 2nd half of the season from both players once they adjust to the game. They both should have the opportunity to produce as either the 2nd or 3rd WR's.meanwhile....back on topicI sense that the OP like many others was "Colstonized" - ie looking for James or Jacoby to emerge as WR2 on their teams and have a valuable first season. Sorry, as RenegadeGM pointed out, that is NOT the norm and the Jones boys were drafted way too high this year in redraft league. Not to say they aren't good receivers, but they just don't rate to be Big fantasy contributors this year and certainly not at the beginning of the year if at all.
Jacoby is not the clearcut number 2. Unless there's been something from the team I've missed, Walter is still the #2 according to the coaches, though I think the reality is Walter is 2a and Jacoby is 2b. There were some plays I believe were only 2 WR sets that had Jacoby in there instead of Walter. But, most of the 2 WR sets went to Walter. My expectation on Jacoby is that he will take the #2 before the season is over, and he's likely to be an ok bye week filler by the latter part of the bye weeks, with potential to reach WR3 level this year but I'm not counting on it having to happen for my team to do well. Both players should be on a roster in a 12 team league, but in many 12 teamers at least 1 is still overlooked and available. I would think that many 10 teamers have at least one of the Joneses available. Productivity is simply a matter of opportunity and gaining experience especially in learning to make adjustments in routes according to situational reads. Both have the talent to flourish this year and beyond. They both are ideal WR#4-5 to be used situationally and as bye week fillers.

Since Jacoby IS the clearcut #2, I expect more consistency in his week-to-week stats, and increasingly better numbers as the season progresses and his route running earns him more targets from Schaub. His week-to-week production will also be highly linked to Houston's match-ups, since Schaub is a starting 1st year QB.
I don't think starting Jones over Curry is a bad call at all. I'm a huge Curry fan but facing the Broncos is where WRs go to die typically. I also think starting him over Jamal Lewis isn't a bad gamble either. Lewis just looks washed up to me. Marshall is a coin flip. I like Cutler but it's a more difficult matchup than what the Packers face. I wouldn't start Jones over Edwards even though Braylon is coming off a so-so game.So I'm not sure the original poster's decision is all that radical. Out of five choices, there's really only one (Edwards) that I would argue against. You are out of your mind.I picked up James this week in one league and assuming Jennings is out, I am playing him in my flex over Curry, Edwards, Marshall and J Lewis.
Yea, I mostly agree with this. Preseason hype can be a little dangerous. Both of these guys have decent long-term prospects, but people got a little too carried away with the early returns.meanwhile....back on topicI sense that the OP like many others was "Colstonized" - ie looking for James or Jacoby to emerge as WR2 on their teams and have a valuable first season. Agree. I just picked up James Jones but am not playing him yet.And Drew Brees didn't look very special at all week 1, but I think I am going to hang onto him anyway.I think James Jones is the real deal, and will be starting in a lot of leagues by midseason. I like Jacoby Jones' upside too, but think he'll need more time to make a regular impact. Just my opinion of course.![]()
u sure you wanna hang onto Drew Brees? I'm sure you got Peyton Manning waiting on the wings.Agree. excellent post . . .I think James Jones will be a very good POSSESSION receiver in the league, while Jacoby Jones has shown that he can be MORE of a SPECIAL player.
I was a Colston and Cotchery owner last year, and picked up both of them after week one. It was based on on-field production (one game), as well as preseason AND some surprising comments from Brees in Colston's case. There was much more reason for optimism in that case than with the Jones boys, but it was still a hail mary that I got lucky on. I actually dropped James Jones for Arnaz Battle this week. That may be a mistake, but I look at it as taking the "potential Cotchery" over the "potential Colston", since there's a MUCH greater chance that Arnaz makes an impact due to the rookie WR factor. JMO. I could be wrong, but I think I was falling for the Colstonisation...meanwhile....back on topicI sense that the OP like many others was "Colstonized" - ie looking for James or Jacoby to emerge as WR2 on their teams and have a valuable first season. Lots of players didn't look very special Week 1. I still think Jacoby will have a nice season. After one week neither looks very special at all. What are the thoughts? What are the projections?"
James Jones intrigues me as a potentially high upside player but could bust as well. With as often as GB will throw the ball , SOMEONE has to catch them besides Driver. Situationally, with Jennings out, I'd play him over Marshall, Horn, and Stallworth who I have on my bench. In fact, I'm ready to drop Horn for him in one of my leagues.excellent post . . .I think James Jones will be a very good POSSESSION receiver in the league, while Jacoby Jones has shown that he can be MORE of a SPECIAL player.

Let me know how this works out for you.![]()
I predicted that the guys you were benching in favor of Jones would outscore him and they did, by a wide margin, so far.madd futher said:My projected stat line for J Jones was very close. If I could have projected 320 yds and 5 TDs from Anderson, it just MIGHT have affected my thinking on J. Lewis and Edwards. Tell me the next time you have an insight that Cleve will score 51 points.PS. I'll take the 11.5 FPs from James for my flex position.
