On the Chicago-Seattle game today cleat length was discussed because of the field conditions. Aikman had to ask which cleat length is longest. Is he dumb? Due to his concussions? Just not common knowledge? This from a former professional QB.

 I was floored when Joe indicated that only a football player would know whether a 1/2 inch or a 5/8 inch cleat was longer. Now who's the dumb one? Looks like the jock is smarter than the :nerd: announcer.

 Buck asked him which was longer, a 1/2 or 5/8. Aikman answered correctly.

As pointed out above, it was Buck who was asking, not Aikman. Aikman corrected Buck. How could you watch even a little football and mess an observation like this up, so much so that you come on here and post about your mis-observation? Just dumb? Or too many concussions? This from, at least your member number would suggest, a somewhat seasoned football observer. :bag:

Sorry--that was a little harsh. But you can knock Aikman for a lot of things--being dense is not one of them. He's a very good announcer.

And apparently there are 5 idiots here:

Which cleat length is longest

3/8 inch [ 5 ] ** [13.51%]

1/2 inch [ 0 ] ** [0.00%]

5/8 inch [ 32 ] ** [86.49%]

I heard the whole exchange and I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Buck was being facetious.
:wall: :wall: to the rest of ya

I tivo'd it myself and played it back twice just to be sure I heard what I thought I did. It sounded as though Joe was genuinely confused, at least it didn't sound like dry humor or 'wittyness' to me. Also Aikman answered in a very deadpan fashion and moved right along. There was no follow up witty banter or even a comedic pause. But if you say it had to be Joe playing around, then I guess  is appropriate here. That and I'll have to give Joe Buck his props, cuz he must REALLY be fun to hang with... The life of the party I'm tellin' ya. Reminds of a song about "rollin' with Bob Saget". Must be cut from the same cloth as they say.

I did not tivo the game so I can not review it. I will accept the posters view that I was wrong in identifying Aikman as the one not knowing the difference in cleat lengths. I appolgize to Aikman. Actually I was quite surprised at the lack of knowledge which I attributed to Aikman because I think he is a good anouncer and was a smart QB.

Regardless, it is amazing that anyone making huge money in the football booth has to ask which cleat is longer. We learned fractions in the fifth grade!

Someone suggested JB was being facetious. Maybe. But I do not recall hearing it that way. But it has already been proven that my hearing is not the best.

I will still take Joe Buck over the Gumball boys.

You may want to re-word the original post, because it was Joe Buck who was unsure which length was longer. Troy Aikman was very much in the know. His response was a classic :sadbanana: towards Buck.

If life was a party, Joe Buck would be the knob collecting everyone's keys in a jar on their way through the door.

Pretty funny that only 7 people on a football board know the correct answer to the question. A lot of unintentional humor here.

No doubt he was... they were being goofs.

Buck's funniest two comments the past two weeks were stated coming out of a break:

"A little Alice in Chains for you...."

"A little Korn for you...."

He couldn't have sounded any nerdier, yet he was trying to sound relevant.

fwiw... Alice in Chains in Seattle made sense. Korn in Chicago? Notta.... Gimme some blues baby...

100% agree. Anyone who has heard Buck over the years know 2 things:#1 He is a very bright guy (like him or not)#2 He can't go more than 3 minutes without goofing around, but usually does so with the driest of wits. In fact, even though the exchange on the air probably didn't elicit many chuckles across the country, the mere presence of this poll and related comments probably has Buck laughing too himself and saying "Mission Accomplished"
