AL MVP : Justin Morneau (1 Viewer)

June 8th is the day he had the talk with Gardenhire that he says changed the way he was playing and approaching his career. It has now become the day the media here links to the Twins turn around so I didn't pick it as my focal point. It was already picked.
That still leaves approximately 2 months of crappy play from the "most valuable player." Granted, there were 4 fantastic months to follow..

It's good to see a non hyper media market player win the MVP. When you look what Morneau did for the Twins this year, helping them to turn around a lost season into something positive, you got to feel good for him.

Great year by the Twins a Cy Young winner and MVP on the same team, I wonder how many times that has happen in the same season.

Now if the Twins can trade for Jennings from CO, they be a strong team in 07. Looking forward to a great race in 07 with the Tigers (I hope they hire someone to teach their pitchers how to field without errors, White Sox, and maybe even the Indians.
Last time was the '62 Dodgers.
Sad part is this should've been the '06 Cardinals. Carpenter and Pujols were robbedPotential whinedown here.
*rubshandstogether*Sadly, I agree so I cannot be your foil.

No question. For me, that's one of the reasons I give it too him. The fact that he came from nowhere to play so well.I understand why other's hold it against him.

I understand your loyalty to the guy. He was clutch down the stretch and pretty much willed the Twins into the postseason. But, take that element away, and place Justin Morneau on the Oakland A's or something. Is he still your MVP selection?

Pete Palmer 's reaction:

I was amazed. I thought for sure Jeter would get it. Especially after his third gold glove, not a bad record for somebody who is probably the worst fielder at his position in the history of the game, based on chances accepted per game. I was told that Jeter also got the best hitter award over Ortiz. What a joke. Ortiz was the best hitter in the league both last year and this, based on player win averages, which gives credit for increasing or decreasing the probability of winning the game with each at bat, although not quite so overwhelmingly as in 2005. Actually, Morneau wasn't a great pick either. I had Hafner rated tops, but based on the record of his team, I would have go with Mauer as the MVP. Ortiz of course has the problem of being a DH, as does Hafner.

For batters, I had Hafner 5.4, Mauer 5.0, Ortiz 4.5, Young 4.2, Tejada 4.1, Sizemore 3.9, Guillen 3.8, Thome 3.5, Posada 3.4, Ramirez 3.2, Dye 3.1, Kinsler 3.1, Guerrero 2.9, Jeter 2.9, Morneau 2.8. For pitchers, it was a good year for relievers, with Papelbon 4.6, Rivera 4.6, Santana 4.6, Nathan 4.2, Rodriguez 3.9, Liriano 3.7, Ryan 3.7, Halladay 3.3, Otsuka 2.9.
