AL shortstops, or lack thereof (1 Viewer)

In a points, AL only keeper league and the SS postion doesn't have much to choose from after Peralta, Young and Jeter. They're ranked in the 5-10 range overall and after them it gets real ugly for the AL. Are there any sleepers/prospects that might help this roster spot?

I've been reading up on Alexei Ramirez in Chicago. He is eligible at SS for this year and is expected to be the everyday 2b for the Sox. Some forecasts have him around 20hrs with a ceiling of 25-30 a possiblity in a full season. Can any Sox fans give an idea on expectations of him?

Also Mike Aviles in KC. He is in a similar postion as Alexei and the same age, but he doesn't project to have the power potential as Ramirez.

Anyone else???

The thought of one of these guys being my starting SS this year has me :blackdot: .

Tigers fan and I watched this guy absolutely torch us a few times. His speed is frightening, power impressive and it doesn't hurt that he plays in such a HR-friendly park. He hit 21 HR in 480 AB last season so it's not like those projections are going way out on a limb.Big thing though in points leagues is to look at your scoring system. Sometimes you can find a gem that fits your system perfectly. If BB and K are counted, a player who is useless in roto but has good plate discipline like Marco Scutaro could be a late-round steal.

:goodposting: Alexei Ramirez is a beast. In a keeper I think he'd be #1 on my AL SS list.

Okay - first thing as pointed out is YOUR league's scoring system to determine their REAL valueSecond, the Ramirez line above is backwards - he ended last season as the regular 2B for the White Sox...but with Cabrera gone (99% as they could still re-sign him) Ramirez is Going to be shifted to SS. In leagues based on 20 games or most games played in 2008 he ONLY qualifies at 2B but could be shifted to SS after the first two weeks (or whatever your league uses).

AL only Rankings for 2B this year (courtesy fantasybaseball.com)

1) Kinsler

2) Pedroia

3) Alexei Ramirez

4) Brian Roberts

5) Robinson Cano

AL only Rankings for SS this year - Ramirez IF eligible there would easily be #1

1) Michael Young

2) Jhonny Peralta

3) Derek Jeter

4) Mike Aviles

5) Asdrubal Cabrera (also qual at 2B)

6) Jason Bartlett (decent BA with 20+ SB)

We go head to head with the basic categories...1b=1, 2b=2 etc, rbi, bb, rs, sb with nothing out of the ordinary included. And we only have a 10 game minimum so he's eligible to start the season at SS for us. I didn't realize Cabrera wasn't signed, so I assumed Alexei would be at 2nd. You like him to be the number one AL SS this year? Any shot he can be their everyday SS? If he does than his value goes way up for me and I might have to trade for him. It's a keeper league, Jeter and Young are expected to be held, with Peralta possibly being free (he also has Alexei, definitely not keeping him).

Well that's two votes for Alexei, I didn't realize he was this highly regarded already. Apperantly he's not much of a secret?! I may have to go get him now.

Yes, Alexei (the "Cuban Missile") played 16 games at short last year, so with ten for eligibility he is already there and as plans are NOW he will be the everyday SS for the White Sox.

and no after last year's numbers, he is not much of a secret...........(last year there were only a few of us - Jason Grey and I being the notable ones who were trumpeting Ramirez...because we saw him so much in spring training)
