All aboard the CHRIS PERRY BANDWAGON! (1 Viewer)

Portis 26

Madden Freak
Chris Perry was the top-ranked back in his draft class with terrific speed, explosion and hands.

He has reportedly looked great in mini-camp.

He appears to be number 2 behind Rudi Johnson.

He is still relatively young, while Rudi is clearly nearing the end.

Are the stars not aligning for him?

Young fast highly talented guy behind old slow guy = potential breakout candidate.

Assuming he's healthy of course.

He's on waivers in many dynasty leagues - pick him up now while you still can! You won't regret it when he breaks out this year!

And join me on the CHRIS PERRY BANDWAGON - there's plenty of room on board!

I bought a four year ticket in 2004 with a first round pick and so I've been sitting on this damn train for 3 years.

Its about time it started moving.

Take this kind of talk into the FFA, guy.
Although jocularly expressed, my point is serious enough. Generally speaking, to break out, a player needs both talent and opportunity. Perry has both - he was the top ranked RB coming out of college, and given Rudi's clear decline, he will surely have the opportunity if he can stay healthy.

I believe Mr. Steven Jackson would argue who the top rated RB coming out of college was.

Was this the same post reprinted from the last 4 years?

It's been impounded, along with the Matt Jones, Eric Shelton, Ron Dayne, Tony Hollings, David Terrell... bandwagons.

Is he really even the #2? Kenny Watson anyone (the guy played quite well last year).

Irons is probably not in the picture much coming off of the ACL

But why should we think he has or will pass up Watson?

I'll very gingerly step on this band(aid)wagon....He gets a long-term contract at minimum salary on my dynasty team, at least until I need the contract years back...

He's a better all around back than Berudi and Kenny.

Are we gonna have one of these for Perry every year like we do David Boston. I hope not.
Eventually it will stop. I mean it's been a couple of years since we've had a thread about Barry Sanders making a come back. That seemed to go on for about 7 years....
Awesome. I knew you'd be in here making your feelings known that you don't think he has a chance to do anything this year, and it's basically due to injury. Thanks for keeping us updated.
What does this have to do with the Barry Sanders threads?

Based on his extensive NFL experience?
or anything at all? Quick, name me the all the great RBs to come out of Michigan in the past decade...

 When in doubt go with the "his school hasn't produced anyone else at that position" argument. See Braylon Edwards

I would agree. Non Sequitor argument....

When you're ignoring the fact that this amazing talent has been in the league for four years without ever having a healthy season, and his career season-best rushing total is 279 yards, what else are you supposed to bring in the way of an argument? Or should I simply state how incredibly foolish it is to expect anything out of a guy with a total of 73 rushing attempts in four years? Or how about how it's dumb to bet one a guy who didn't even play in 2007? Or how about how dumb it is to expect anything out of someone whose last ypc for a season was 1.7 yards? And even that was two years ago? Are those better arguments?

I'm sorry, but when I hear someone say that a back with those measurables is better than Rudi Johnson, who has over 5,000 career rushing yards and 3 seasons over 1300 rushing, I figure any argument is acceptable.

I'll say this much for the bandwagon. I do think he is a nice investment because he should cost you next to nothing. ANY RB on Cincy. could potentially provide a huge return on investment if they can seize the opportunity.

Take a look at his game logs from 2005. Perry did a great job as a change of pace back and was outstanding catching the ball out of the backfield. The ankle dislocation that kept him out the past two years is a freak injury and could happen to any player. I wouldn't be surprised if Perry stays healthy all year or if he gets injured. Football is a violent game and a lot of players will get injured. The reports coming out say he looks like he did before the injury. If he stays healthy he will have a very productive year. Getting him on the cheap now could certainly pay off, especially in PPR leagues.

I've got a lifetime pass on this bandwagon and I keep thinking this is finally the year....

People forget that Perry had a decent 2005 as Rudi's backup that season -- 297yds, 5.0ypc, and 51 recs for 328yds. That put him at #39 in my .5 PPR league, making him a RB4 in a 12-team league. Not saying he's a future stud, but he could easily be an RB2 in Cincy's system in place of Rudi. Perry knows the system, has the skills, now just needs to stay healthy to take advantage of any opportunites.

Of course it wasn't. No way was Perry available on waivers 4 years ago. :rant:To be honest, he's not on waivers right now, either. I'll admit to owning a Chris Perry-shaped lottery ticket in my dynasty league. It goes nicely with my Kenny Irons-shaped ticket. Two tickets gives me twice the chances of winning! Here's hoping the arrow doesn't wind up landing on Kenny Watson...

I've been hanging on to Perry since his rookie year, he has talent, but time is running short here.

Chris Perry is the reason I love deep benches. If I can justify rostering Matt Spaeth, surely I can justify a position for a former 1st round RB who has shown flashes of potential but has had some health issues to date. Who else am I going to get in his place, anyway?

Michael Clayton is another reason I love those deep benches. I mean, if he's good enough to get a movie made about him, then he's worth owning in fantasy leagues, right?

It's not like the guy is a bad player, but it will be tough for him to get playing time and he turns 27 at the end of the season. I'm not sure he's better than Watson though. The odds of him ever being a featured back are very low and the best you could hope for him is as a bye week RB in a PPR league.

:) I actually like Perry because he's a low risk, high reward guy. You have virtually no expense in acquiring him, and he's not likely to stay healthy, but if he does he could be a monster.

Oh, I forgot about Daunte Culpepper, too. Any discussion of Chris Perry and Michael Clayton wouldn't be complete without mentioning Daunte Culpepper. They're guys who have a very, very slim chance of becoming absolute uberstuds who can be acquired for virtually nothing. They're lottery tickets, plain and simple.

Can we make sure Mr Perry is strapped in please? I fear he's gonna step close to the edge, trip, and have the bandwagon roll over him again.

I think he's a worthy late round flyer, especially in PPR (and when I mean late, I mean like last round or two).

Right now the Bengal backfield is crowded and looking somewhat committeeish.

Notwithstanding Irons (who I fear is Perry II) they still also have Rudi, Watson, and Dorsey (who seemed to be getting more and more plays drawn for him each week).

IF he stays healthy, I do think Perry is a legit PPR league contributor. Not so much for the TD-based leagues. But it's a huge if. As a Bengals fan I'm not exactly banking on it.

How long until someone starts the David Boston version of this, circa 2K8?

We need a :stickaforkinhim: emoticon.

Yes... based on what he did when he was on the field. If we're making the assumption that all the backs are healthy, Perry is the best all around back on the team. If we aren't making that assumption, there is no reason for this conversation or the thread.
