2007 MLB All-Star Balloting : American League

1st Base

RANK PLAYER NAME NL TEAM TOTAL VOTES

1. Ortiz, D. Red Sox 601,770

2. Giambi, J. Yankees 240,030

3. Morneau, J. Twins 221,520

4. Hafner, T. Indians 176,364

5. Casey, S. Tigers 161,436

This is pretty fair... Ortiz doesn't play much 1B but he does during interleague play... which is essentailly what this AS Game is (NL Home Team). He'll run away with this. An arguement COULD be made that it should be an everyday 1B but all of these guys play under these conditions.... so.....EDIT: Didn't realize Morneau was posting such solid numbers.. he should be featured here....

2nd Base

RANK PLAYER NAME NL TEAM TOTAL VOTES

1. Cano, R. Yankees 322,994

2. Polanco, P. Tigers 282,251

3. Kinsler, I. Rangers 207,170

4. Upton, B.J. Devil Rays 141,720

5. Pedroia, D. Red Sox 141,636

Are you kidding me with this? Cano? BJ Upton should be running away with this but he plays for the Rays so he'll get no love. This is the worst offender thus far.

Shortstop

RANK PLAYER NAME NL TEAM TOTAL VOTES

1. Jeter, D. Yankees 657,383

2. Tejada, M. Orioles 228,230

3. Guillen, C. Tigers 197,755

4. Lugo, J. Red Sox 180,165

5. Young, M. Rangers 129,307

I agree with this... Jeter is having another stellar year and while he's still not the best defensively he more than makes up for it with the bat.

3rd Base

RANK PLAYER NAME NL TEAM TOTAL VOTES

1. Rodriguez, A. Yankees 843,550

2. Lowell, M. Red Sox 238,566

3. Inge, B. Tigers 122,149

4. Chavez, E. Athletics 96,663

5. Crede, J. White Sox 82,598

No brainer here as well. He's tapered off a BIT from his sick pace but he's still the best 3B overall in the AL.

Catcher

RANK PLAYER NAME NL TEAM TOTAL VOTES

1. Rodriguez, I. Tigers 370,322

2. Mauer, J. Twins 328,974

3. Varitek, J. Red Sox 301,942

4. Posada, J. Yankees 297,928

5. Martinez, V. Indians 140,033

This is a joke right? HOw is posada at 4th? I'm no fan of loading this team up with Yankees but Posada has had the best season of an AL catcher thus far.

Outfield

RANK PLAYER NAME NL TEAM TOTAL VOTES

1. Guerrero, V. Angels 578,430

2. Ramirez, M. Red Sox 449,372

3. Suzuki, I. Mariners 362,245

4. Hunter, T. Twins 278,732

5. Abreu, B. Yankees 278,606

6. Damon, J. Yankees 267,605

7. Ordonez, M. Tigers 261,976

8. Drew, J.D. Red Sox 253,472

9. Sizemore, G. Indians 249,236

10. Matsui, H. Yankees 216,896

11. Sosa, S. Rangers 195,549

12. Crisp, C. Red Sox 178,152

13. Sheffield, G. Tigers 175,849

14. Crawford, C. Devil Rays 147,912

15. Wells, V. Blue Jays 144,923

Manny is slumping and really doesn't deserve it but he'll get in. Abreu and Damon at 5th and 6th is almost as big of a laugher as Cano at 2B :lmao:

My picks so far:

C Posada

1B Morneau

2B Cano jk Upton

3B Rodriguez

SS Jeter

OF Ordonez

OF Guerrero

OF Sizemore

Youkilis and his 1.000+ OPS, 1.000 fielding percentage, .358 average, 8 HR, and 30 RBI ***ARE NOT*** on the ballot for those that didn't even notice.

Heard last night that Youkalis isn't even on the all-star ballot this year, as it's in an NL park and Ortiz is the Red Sox first base option.

Now, I'm a Red Sox fan....but Youkalis is pretty deserving of being at least a reserve.

8 hr's, 30 rbi's, 40 runs

25 multi hit games (leads the AL) including 9 straight.

OPS 1.002 (higher than Morneau....just behind Ortiz)

I'm starting a write-in campaign. Who's with me??

C Posada

1B Morneau

2B Kinsler

SS Jeter

3B Rodriguez

OF Guerrero

OF Ordonez

OF Hunter

-Posada has been great this year.

-Morneau PLAYS first base, the the defending MVP and has better #'s than everyone at first.

-50,000 fannies in the seats everynight is the reason Cano is leading the 2B's, but that won't last.

-It's Jeter, duh

-ARod could have missed May and would still have won this.

-Vlad is Vlad, Ordonez is having a great year, and if this means home field, I want Hunter in CF. I'm not upset with Ichiro getting in there. Manny... there is still a long way to go.

Posada, Jeter and ARod have been the Yanks offense this year. The other 6 guys have been awful

Martinez is getting disrespected here, imo.The only stat Posada beats VMart in is average, and Martinez is still hovering around .310.

Youkilis has been great but 8 hr's and 30 rbi this time of year from a 1st baseman should be pretty much expected. It's about time he displayed even average power. He's been excellent though and it's a joke he's not on the ballot but frankly I hadn't noticed.

Justin > hi

Good thread, this should not be a popularity contest. IRod should not be first as Victor Martinez seems like the logical choice. David Ortiz should not even be on the ballot, he's a DH...not a 1Bman. Robinson Cano is the suck, he's not even worthy of being on a Triple A All Star team at this point and Polanco is the clear choice at 2B. Ordonez is the best player in the AL up to this point but I understand why he is lagging. Not a problem, he will be there anyway.

I think it's fine fans vote for their guys but they should be somewhat realistic. I voted I-rod, sure I did but I didn't vote for Sean Casey or Brandon Inge. It's ok to be a homer, but to be a senseless "All my team homer" is for 8 year-olds not for 30 year old fans who know the game a little better. Basically this is to you New York, prove me right that you are a city of good fans...vote with your head not your ####.

It's too bad they put Ortiz on there.
So you would leave Papi off?
He should not be on the ballot. I agree with This Guy. When Ortiz starts playing 1B then those who think he should be on the ballot might have an argument. He's not a 1Bman, he's a DH.

Right now....Yes.... Youk....more runs, more hits, one less HR..8 less RBI...less walks...less K's....40 points higher on the average....2 points less on OBP...few less in SLG....more SB.....better fielder. As of this moment..Kevin Youklis is the 1B for the RedSox more deserving to go. He might not be the most glamorous or have the name, persona and panache that Shrek has..but he deserves it.

If Ortiz was in the NL, he'd be a 1B. While his defense is by no means stellar, he's no Jack Cust in the field.

I think the whole issue can be pretty much solved by voting for DHs in the AL. They are a position in the AL and a pivotal part of many teams... they should be involved in the All Star Game, regardless of where the game is being played.

the All-Star game might be the first game that Ortiz plays at first base this year..

if they are just gonna stick him at some spot why not put him in as an outfielder or something..

Get rid of the DH. Problem solved. (Of course, keep in mind I cheer for a team that has Jason Tyner and his zero total career HRs as my team's DH.)

This would be my starting lineup also. I could also see Ichiro in the OF or Peralta at SS. If you look at the stats between Jeter and Peralta it is pretty close. Jeter has 2 more runs and a big advantage on average while Peralta has 7 more HR's and 5 more RBI's. Peralta also has less errors I believe but I am not sure about that. Youkilis not even being on the ballot is ridiculous. He should defenitely be in as a reserve. My NL team would look like this:C) Russell Martin1B) Adrian Gonzalez2B) Chase Utley3B) Miguel CabreraSS) Jose ReyesOF) Carlos LeeOF) Matt HollidayOF) Adam DunnThe NL is stacked with shortstops. Rollins, Ramirez, Reyes, and JJ Hardy could conceivably all make it to the game.

Nl voting is better, but Hardy should get it over Reyes and Martin should have a larger lead over everyone else at catcher. The NL OF's are real garbage, but I'm rooting for Junior to get there.

Wow, the reigning NL MVP isn't even in the top 6 on popularity. Guy has hit 7 homers in his first 18 games back from injury.
