*ALL-STAR GAME* thread (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
:lmao: :lmao: @ Jeter starting. It's so tired.

The fans had better vote Paul Freaking Konerko in. Big screw job there.... 1st baseman or not.

Jeter is like Grant Hill making NBA all star teams. Just a byproduct of giving the fans a vote. Get over it.

I'm not sure if there is a worse analogy to make.Grant Hill hasn't made in all-star appearance in 6 years. He also has only made it 7 times, and only one time (2001) was he undeserving.

I was thinking. When voting, each fan should be forced to pick only one player from each team in the league regardless of position. So fan voting would choose a representative from each team. The manager/players could then fill out the roster with whomever they choose and also name the starters.

The benefits would be that there would never be multiple undeserved reps from one popular team especially in the starting lineup. Also, players like McCutchen and Konerko who are the clear best players on their team would get in more often while relief pitchers from bad teams wouldn't always be the go to picks.

One issue is that there could be a position surplus especially at 1B. But I think it would be rare for that to have a major impact on the game and adjustments could be made for such a situation (extra player for each team).

Any thoughts?

The main problem is the stupid mandate dictating that every team MUST be represented.

:bs:

If you don't have a deserving All-Star, you don't have a deserving All-Star.

Sheesh. Just pointing out that people vote names they know. Crapping ones pants over Jeter is pointless. He'll start till he retires.

Tell my boy Jhonny it's pointless

Wow, with all these Yankees dropping out it's going to look like a legitimate AL All-Star lineup. Let's crank up a new losing streak.

These are gonna be the longest pregame introductions ever. I think everybody in the major leagues made the All-Star team.

Not feelin' the HR derby yet. Maybe that will change when it starts. HATING Chris Berman doesn't help.

Can't really argue against Halladay, but seems to me that Jurrjens really deserved the start.
Halladay has better isolated pitching numbers across the board. He is #1 in the NL in DIPS, 1st in FIP, 3rd in ERC, and 1st in K/BB. He is the best pitcher in the NL. Jurrjens just has the best ERA.

Mark me down for the "I DON'T CARE" camp

this is an exhibition game that gives home field to the winning teams WS representative

total bs

How long til a few kids bump into each other in the outfield trying to catch a pop up and someone gets clocked in the eye and goes blind?

Probably be a Josh Hamilton fly ball too

Last night, Bob Nightengale who writes for USA Today was on FOX Sports Radio. While talking about the HR derby, he matter-of-factly mentioned that the balls they use for the derby are juiced. Most definitely NOT the same balls they use for games.

Both of the hosts (and I) were surprised by this revelation. Was this common knowledge?

It was to me because they showed the different balls on the 6PM news before the All Star Game at Fenway a few years back.

Just saw a guy in a Yankee hat at SS unable to throw out Jordan Sparks at first and thought to myself "I swore I read that Jeter was skipping the all star festivities"

Love watching the old ball players, even in a douchy softball game.

Steve Garvey still has that "quiet" batting stance.

Nice of the Arizona crowd to boo all Red Sux and Yankees. Never have said this before, but I respect Arizona fans today.

Got a big event in Phoenix? Need an anthem singer? Call Jordin Sparks.

Now we get 400 Moneyball advertisements. What real baseball fan would go see this? Ok, maybe A's fans are excused but really? Maybe when it gets to TBS I'll watch it, but not before.

Beckett feels something in his knee, Bautista almost breaks his ankle  and Joe Buck says that was the highlight of the game meanwhile the camera didnt catch it until the replay.
