22.03 John Starks, SG, 90s
All-star team, all-defensive team, sixth man of the year, what didn’t this guy do (win a championship). Forms a pretty great defensive backcourt with Mookie, and also solid assist numbers for a SG.
Right place, wrong round. That should be your 21.11 pick. You’re on deck for the 22nd round.Am I in the right place?
22.06 - Caldwell Jones, C 1970s
Yep, was just figuring this out. Stand by for rain.Right place, wrong round. That should be your 21.11 pick. You’re on deck for the 22nd round.
was going to grab him last turn but wanted to finish up my 60s team. nervous that move may leave my 80s team in trouble21.13 Otis Birdsong, SG, 80s
4x all-star and an All-NBA team, career high 24.6 ppg in 81 season.
it's funny, i really was hoping to grab him, but i could have swore he played a bunch in the 80s. checked his stats, and realized he played mostly in the 90's, and he wasn't going to fit. nice sneaky pick in the 22nd round i think22.03 John Starks, SG, 90s

spent an hour thi afternoon looking into this guy and putting him at the top of my list. I should just start waiting bunch of hours before checking this thread and see who is left at that point22.05: PG Kevin Porter, 1970s
4-time NBA assist leader. Probably would've made it five, but a knee injury held him to 19 games in his age 25 season (1975-76). Peak season was 1978-79 when he scored 15.4 ppg and dished a then-league-record 13.4 apg -- and threw in two steals a night to boot.

Wiggins? Jonny Flynn?Got a bunch of guys here I kind of want, but nobody I REALLY want. hmmm.
As a pipsqueak with no handle who loved basketball, i watched the "skilless" assist masters of the 60s, Rodgers & Costello especially. That meant falling in love with the pick & roll, STILL the most indefensible play in sports.I learned more watching those two run it than watching my Celts (who disguised it too well for my young eyes). I almost had it mastered til vroomp, i grew into the guy throwing picks in a little over a year. But my greatest pleasure on the court remained my chest- and one-handed bounce passes, the orgasm-givers of my sporting talent.22.07 - Larry Costello - PG/1960's
Here is the final piece to my 1960's roster. I figured we needed some comic relief so got half of the famed comic duo Abbott & Costello. I can't wait until they give us the pep talk of Who's on First? once the entire roster is completed.
Career highlights and awards
- NBA champion (1967)
- 6× NBA All-Star (1958–1962, 1965)
- All-NBA Second Team (1961)
Team Gally's 1960's entry:
- PG - Larry Costello
- SG - Sam Jones
- SF - Joe Caldwell
- PF - Rudy LaRusso
- C - Dolph Schayes
@trader jakeand all the late guys are up next
I guess that means you approve of the pick but does he mesh well with the rest of my team. I sure think so but hope the judges do too. I think my five will be in contention for top 10 squads for the decade. As a pipsqueak with no handle who loved basketball, i watched the "skilless" assist masters of the 60s, Rodgers & Costello especially. Man that makes 12 squads that "should be one of the favorites" for the 2010'sShould be one of the favorites in the 2010s.
I like your optimism looking at Rose. MVP ball dominant PG as opposed to injured PG not available to play.Had lots of meetings today so didn’t fully write up my 2010s squad, which will most likely be my best in show team. I’m really like how this team came together, and it’s really well balanced on both ends of the floor.
PG - Derrick Rose
SG - Klay Thompson
SF - Trevor Ariza
PF - Anthony Davis
C - Marc Gasol
Offensively, I have a ball dominant MVP point guard who is great at attacking the rim along with two excellent shooting wings (one who is amongst the best ever) and two bigs who can both stretch the floor and fill the lane. Rose pick & roll or pick & pop action with Davis and Gasol would be deadly. My bigs are also above average in their vision and ball handling, so a Gasol/Davis high/low game or Gasol at the top of the key looking for Klay running off screens or Ariza finding the open spaces on the perimeter would be impossible to contain.
Defensively, this team is stacked. Klay and Ariza are both excellent wing defenders who can help cover for any shortcomings Rose has on this end. Davis and Gasol are elite interior defenders who also have the ability to switch on the perimeter and more than hold their own.
Should be one of the favorites in the 2010s.
I’ll put his peak up against most PGs in this decade.I like your optimism looking at Rose. MVP ball dominant PG as opposed to injured PG not available to play.
i would like to add that he also had Luol Deng carry the weight and do all the dirty work to help him get that MVP. looking into details of that season, and the article i was looking at had me kind of convinced that may have actually been trueI like your optimism looking at Rose. Sure great but very short peak.I’ll put his peak up against most PGs in this decade.
As compared to some of the other young guys selected, I'm surprised he fell this far.22.08 C.J. McCollum - SG 2010s
Modern day offenses need to spread the floor and McCollum can do just that - shooting 40% from deep over his 8 year career. One of the best mid-range players currently in the game and he seems to be one of the league's good guys. He's also a solid passer, gets plenty of steals, and is extremely consistent.
During the bubble last winter he brought 84 bottles of wine with him. As a father that's been working from home for over a year with my wife and two children...I think this guy was on to something.
Usually once you're skipped once, you are on autoskip until you check back in.Is it my turn or does time space continuum stop til the morning?
Feeling better about my Luka Doncic pick.Sure great but very short peak.I’ll put his peak up against most PGs in this decade.
Compared to Rose?Feeling better about my Luka Doncic pick.
We agree, flirting with 30/10/10 is really good.Compared to Rose?Feeling better about my Luka Doncic pick.
Rose had 8 years averaging 20/4/6 with a steal and that includes 4 years post injury. The 3 years before his injury were 23/4/7/1. 1x MVP, 1x all nba, 3x all star.
Doncic has had a really good year and a half.
I’d likewise match up Gasol’s career against Embiid’s.
The current older guys shouldn’t be judged just on their current performance but by their careers and their peaks. Young guys shouldn’t be judged on things that haven’t happened yet.
Personally, I’d say Johnson has had a better career than both. He’s easily over Mitchell, but it’s closer with Doncic because of his incredible short run. A long career of consistent really goodness versus a year and a half of excellence. There are multiple players I've seen who have had starts to careers that were incredibly great, and then they cratered and haven't been drafted. So do we judge Mitchell, Doncic, Embiid, Simmons, etc.?
in 2010s compare Joe Johnson vs. Mitchell or Doncic. Who wins?
Should have said excellence instead of really good, but the rest still stands. We agree, flirting with 30/10/10 is really good.
I ran across similar sentiment wayback in the TimDraft Greatest of All-Time, I think it was 2011, where I selected Usain Bolt as the greatest athlete of all-time. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.Personally, I’d say Johnson has had a better career than both. He’s easily over Mitchell, but it’s closer with Doncic because of his incredible short run. Im just glad I’m not the only judge.
Send a list.Spreadsheet is updated. Really hope Ilov80s shows up soon...I'm fading fast and won't last much longer.
Mitchell. Duh!There are multiple players I've seen who have had starts to careers that were incredibly great, and then they cratered and haven't been drafted. So do we judge Mitchell, Doncic, Embiid, Simmons, etc.?
