Alone (1 Viewer)

No, i'm sitting out on the deck smoking joints from what I harvested last spring. Found I can still get my favorite Club Modiano rolling papers I used to use in the 70s. No longer made in Italy, though. Now a Belgian product but srill miles ahead of whatever is second best.

Ten men enter the Vancouver Island wilderness carrying only what they can fit in a small backpack. They are alone in harsh, unforgiving terrain with a single missionstay alive as long as they can. These men must hunt, build shelters and fend off predators. They will endure extreme isolation and psychological distress as they plunge into the unknown and document the experience themselves. No camera crew. No producers. It is the ultimate test of mans will.

I started watching this from the start and it is a really interesting show. I just wonder what kind of waivers these people had to sign to go on this show, Week one that guy was almost bear food. I am hoping Mitch wins it all.

How is the winner determined? Last man standing? I saw an episode a couple nights ago and thought it was pretty good.

Yeah last man standing gets 500,000.

I like it because, unlike other reality shows where the contestants have camera crews all around, these guys have to film themselves and sometimes like two weeks ago, help can be 3 hours away. That guy was being charged and stalked by a bear and he called for help to quit, they had to walk in to get him and they weren't sure what they were going to find when they got there. Bears, Wolves and lots of Cougars.

Seems like a cool idea. Is it entertaining? There was a show I used to watch that was actually pretty fun that involved a tracker and a new contestant every week. The contestant would have to get from point a to point b. It was called tracker man or something?

The episode I watched was the one with the guy from NC quitting...seeing weird symbols in the middle of the night on the roof of his tent or some such

Mantracker

Yeah, what is cool is they drop these 10 guys off with just 10 items they selected from like a list of 40. They are dropped off at different areas where there is no way they could find each other and they are told have at it. The water there is sea water and that is why that one guy had to quit as he thought his water source was good, but the salt water content was so high he was in pretty bad shape. There is more rain there than the average rain forest--so finding viable firewood is also problematic. Plus the population of big predators there is pretty high.

What I told my wife is if you found a good water source and managed to come up with a food system of some sort (the one guy waits until low tide and finds sea life such as snails and eats bull kelp), this show could've lasted months and months. I imagine it is edited as such there will be one person tap out each week.

I highly recommend it. My wife doesn't like shows like this, but she watched the first 3 episodes back to back.

Seem like they pick flaky basket cases or do the guys seem fairly capable?
They seem capable, but apparently they don't like being alone. Which being a participant on a show called Alone is a problem. One guy made a cool canoe. None in my opinion has put enough effort in making a secure shelter that he can defend from the animals, even though they have time and resources.

here is what i do not get brohans these guys all say they get to thinking about home and sad and all that and end up crying because of all the quote down time if i was up there with bears and cougars and wolfs there would be no down time there would be what i would call cutting down trees and building myself a wooden wall house time so that sort of amazed me and instead of doing a house or cutting firewood or getting ready for winter one dude is buidling a boat i mean what the hell so in short i love this show and it is basically what i set my week to take that to the bank bromigos

The guy who made his own charcloth from cedar bark was pretty smart. Hadn't seen that done before. Getting a fire started seems rough.

I have a hard time believing they are really alone. Seems that regardless of mountains of paperwork signed, if someone dies out there, the network wouldn't take the risk financial/legally. They may stay back a mile or whatever, but have to think there's a panic button or radio or something. The people may ham it up a bit, and the show edit it to catch the moments they want, but there's a huge difference from being pretty much alone to really alone.

They do have a satellite phone so they can tap out as they call it. But the response team can be several hours away. One guy tapped out at night and it took the about 2:30 hours to reach him. They drove as close as they could get down logging roads and then had to hoof it in through the woods.

ETA: he tapped out because he had a bear in camp.

All participants have cried at some point. Down to 4 and their only 14 days in.
I dont think Sam (kid from from NE) has cried yet. He's seemed pretty upbeat in all of his interviews so far.

eta - just remembered Im not all the way caught up... no spoilers please!

Can't figure out why, after 20 days, they all still live under tarps, and two of the guys are out in the open with no protection from predators.

same here brohan when you are bored and starting to get all saddy sad like these guys you create a list and you get your rear end busy job numero uno would be chopping trees and building structures chinking with the moss that is everwhere and working on a fireplace or means to heat the structure then it would be stockpiling wood and creating a shelter to keep that dry during the upcoming rainy season and then i would work on stockpiling food and smoking stuff to preserve it for the haul ahead but hey that is just what some dummy from milwaukee would and i guess these allstars would rather just sit around and cry until a bear eats them take that to the bank

also another job weould be every day walking that beach looking for treasures that washed up since the world is a bunch of slobs i am sure stuff comes in now and then and any metal or plastic would be gold up there brohans edited for grammar

good call with the plastic bottles for the fish traps.

Alan is looking like he could stay there months, not days.

Yeah, that was pretty cool. hadn't seen that done before.

Guy who lost his net will be in trouble if he doesn't find it.

there are three things you can count on death taxes and that people are total slobasauruses bromigos so no big win for the old swcer there but back to the show i am really exicted to watch a bunch of guys crying the woods again tonight i do not know about you brohans but they must pick a bunch of nancies hell half of them were gone in four count them four days and now the guys that are left spend half the show pissing and moaning cripes its like snotmas eve and we all get to watch well man up is what i say and get to chopping some wood and buidling some stuff and picking up beach garbage you can not cry when you are to tired to stand take that to the bank bromigos

No posts now that the show is over? Alan could do his own survival show and I would watch. That dude is :moneybag: is front of a camera.

Yeah. This was good stuff. Read somewhere they lost a lot of weight. Didn't see the after show, but read it was like 60 and 80 lbs.

I missed the aftershow also. Its not available on the website or On Demand yet either.

Alan did plump up nicely after the show ended though, in the few clips they showed during the finale.
