Am I Over thinking this? (1 Viewer)

I have a 1.80 lead and I have sproles yet to play. My opponent has no players remaining.

I'm considering benching sproles just in case he fumbles and gets knocked out of the game! Am I overthinking this.

I think the chance he gets negative points is slim but it COULD happen. Im 2-0 and would hate to lose if the worst case happened.

So should I be safe and bench? or let the little spark plug get me 10-20 more points?

Im in a .25 ppr performance league and we get points for return yards. Fractional points!

Anyone have any stats on how often sproles has fumbled.

My last question is would this fall under the relm of unsportsmanlike? Do I have to field him to be sportsmanlike?

Thanks,

if it guarantees you a win.. i would do it...

Obviously it does and Im not worried about points at 3-0. Anyone know if there would be any reason my league has an issue with me benching sproles to insure a win?

Only if your league rules state starting requirments, and many do. I know my league requires a lineup of 1/2/2/1/1/1 to prevent people from sitting someone like that.

If you do not have minimum starting requirements, then bench him and take the sure win.

You'd be paying the pot $10 if you did that in our league. One owner put it to test last week and wanted a poll about it. 9 voted No, 2 voted Yes, 1 was a no vote. So "No", can not have illegal lineups to ensure a win.

If total points don't concern you, it would seem like a no-brainer to bench him. Out of curiousity, though...who do you insert in his place? Won't they have the same chance of scoring negative points? Or can you simply bench him and leave the spot open? A lot of leagues won't allow you to submit an illegal lineup (ie: a player short) or have penalties for doing so.

Im in a yahoo league! I checked the rules but couldnt only find info on when a owner benches a player in order to help another owner win (collusion) My situation is not collusion I selfishly dont want to lose!

Unless you know the scoring rules like the back of your hand, don't bench Sproles. The odds of him fumbling (without also gaining 3 yards on that run) and leaving are less than the odds of people in your league making a big deal about your lineup being incomplete. No reason to have that debate over what would be VERY unlikely scenerio.

Leave him in, especially if points is a tie breaking consideration for the division. If you have the same record as another team and they go to "points scored" as a tie breaker, it would suck if you end up losing position because of the points you could've had tonight.

A couple seasons ago I inquired about this in our money league. Leading by ~1 with only Robbie Gould left to play. League roster requirments force you to start someone, else you forfeit. That would be the game that Gould missed 4-5 FGs, giving me the loss and ultimately costing me $700.

I'd leave him in. All of the league managers generally have a disclaimer "All scores not final until blah blah". How big of an idiot would you feel like if you benched Sproles and Tuesday morning the NFL reversed a decision about a play that awarded your opponent 2 more points! Granted, that's as unlikely as Sproles himself scoring -1.9 or less tonight but don't F with karma.

No, you're not over thinking this. In the last game of our regular season last season, my brother benched a player on MNF so he wouldn't have to play my team in the first round of the playoffs (we clearly had the two best teams). Week one of the playoffs, I scored the most points, my brother the second most. I was knocked out the next week and he won the championship because of that shrewd decision.

Just be careful, corrections can take place til Wednesday. Nothing like a correction that gives 2 points to his Defense and you end up losing.

You're overthinking it. If it was a position that was likely to post a negative - certain defenses given scoring - then maybe. I went w/o a kicker for the first 2 games and felt fine about it. Wanted the extra roster spot.

...I'd play sproles. Kind of the Bill Bellicheck in me.
