Amazon Prime (1 Viewer)

Fire stick has been doing well. Hbo go is a bit spotty where other apps stream no problem with same connection.

Watches on been great.

Now you can download prime to play off line
This is huge. Is there a link with instructions or is it intuitive?

Browse shows/movies, select one then hit "Watch now" or "Download"

And you can set it so that you can only download while on Wifi, so as not to eat up data.

Sweet! Just downloaded the Amazon Video app (iOs, sorry Quez) and am downloading a movie to test this thing out. Will report back.
works great!! Downloaded a movie to my "Library" on the Amazon app. Turned on Airplane mode. Hit play on movie. It gives an alert of "you have a 30-day period to watch this movie blah blah blah after that you need to will need to reconnect your device to wifi" then the movie plays.

Remember when folks (on this very forum) used to argue that streaming video would take a long time to become mainstream due to storage and data streaming speed limitations. Crazy how fast streaming has become part of our lives. Maybe in a few years no more physical media?

The only sellers that have access to the program at the moment are those that have been authorized to tag their products as Prime-eligible even when they ship directly from their own warehouses.
This is a very, very small group of sellers. It's not going to be a big deal at all.
For now, I agree totally. Hopefully this doesn't grow large enough to start to erode the value of Prime, as it seems like they might just be testing this out at this point in time.
I think the only thing this will do is have more sellers offer their produces as prime eligible for certain reasons, when maybe they were hesitant before due to costs to cover the entire US.

It's really not all that bad. The wsj article was updated to correct some misinformation. http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/08/28/amazon-prime-not-all-goods/

I don't see an Amazon Video app in the Google Play store. Is the Android version out? I'm searching "Amazon video","Amazon instant video", etc.

Or do I use the regular Amazon App, or download the Fire TV app, or use the instant streaming music app...

This is getting confusing...

I never thought internet speeds would increase this quickly. 10 years ago the fastest internet was 8 mbps (probably expensive) and now they're up to 300 mbps with plans that support streaming (10 mbps) for $30 a month.

Mine automatically downloaded as an update. Guess I had the right apps already installed. Anyway...https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/splash/sd/t/appstore

did they list it won't be shipping for a few days? some items that aren't currently in stock are listed like that.

Once they ship it's 2 days, but if they don't currently have it they can't ship it, but this is always listed before you order it.

I went to go buy the new Iron Maiden album that came out today. It's available for free with Prime. Got it downloaded on my phone right now. I thought the prime music was just for streaming, which doesn't really work for me, so this is awesome. I also didn't know they gave away new releases for free. :headbang:

So my renewal goes through for $99 the other day. My wife is in grad school, so we generally only pay the student rate of $49 so I call customer service. They were nice, acknowledged the mistake, and said they'd get it straightened out.

I log onto my bank statement today and the full $99 was refunded plus about $75 in purchases we have coming got refunded.

From Cnet:

Still on the fence about Amazon Prime? If you haven't yet tried the service, here's a little added incentive: Amazon is offering a free AmazonBasics 5,600mAH Portable Power Bank when you sign up for a 30-day Amazon Prime trial. You can cancel before the trial is over and keep the mobile charger, or pay $99 to keep Prime going for a full year. (My two cents: It's arguably the best $99 you'll ever spend. Free 2-day shipping FTW!)

Have to say the streaming isn't very good when I'm not home.

I know it's crappy hotels but I could watch more than a few minutes without buffering

Is this why I keep seeing this "Prime (3-5 days)" garbage on like 60% of the items I'm looking to buy now? WTF, 3-5 days is NOT Prime you ###holes.

I just signed up for a 30 day trial the other day and am trying to decide whether or not to cancel after 30 days or just keep it. After reading this, I may be able to get the $49 rate as I registered just a month or so ago at my local community college to take a course - how does one prove he/she is a student and get the discounted rate? If it was $49 instead of $99, I think I'd definitely keep it.

I'm in grad school...didn't realize I could get a reduced rate. nice.

Does anyone using Amazon Instant Video app on Android know how to save videos to external storage? It doesn't give me the option to move the app to the SD card either.

Honestly I don't remember how you prove it? I think it was originally that we signed up with a .edu email.

You didn't hear this from me.

Haven't tried it to see if it works or not.

Granted I'm 2 hours from civilization but this was never an issue and has happened on 6 of my last 9 orders, and about half of my last 30.

Track Package DelayedSorry, your package is delayed because of an issue with the carrier.
That was supposed to be here on the 6th and will hopefully be here by the 9th. I'm paid up until next April, but I've put in my cancellation. The other Prime benefits are gravy to me, this was always about free two day shipping.

Have you called or initiated online help to find out what's happening? That's very unusual and represents something strange that is happening in your area that is likely fixable with attention

I'm not the busiest person but I hate being the guy who wastes his time and yours over coffee beans and lightbulbs. There's 30k folks out here in the desert. If what's happening to me is happening to others, I'm sure you'll hear from some nasty neighbor of mine. If it isn't then Amazon has several months to win my annual payment back. I've always understood it's harder to deliver in two days to the middle of the desert than the middle of LA, but up until the past couple months I've mostly been impressed by the speedy deliveries. I recently had a prime pantry order take 7 days.

To anyone using "subscribe and save" for any products through Amazon - what are those products? I think if I add a few more I get a discount on all of them. I typically get the TP and papertowels from the grocery store (when on sale) and I buy in bulk. Same with stuff like coffee and cleaning supplies. Currently I have oil filters and oil sent every 6 months to remind me to change the oil in the car. What else?

What about air filters for your house? If you have little kids, what about diapers and pull ups?

When our daughter was still in diapers, we used subscribe and save for them. We very rarely would run out of diapers and never had to think about buying more at the store.

I do have a newborn (coming up on 2 months old, first kid). We have half of our dining room full of boxes of diapers at the moment, not exaggerating. Not knowing how fast he'll grow out of certain sizes, though, I'm hesitant to buy more of any particular size (we had ~100 "newborn" size remaining when he outgrew that size). It's likely something I'll add later, though, wipes to.

Air filters for home is a good call, but I have enough in the house already for the next year or so (I buy those in bulk as well).

Good calls on both, though. Thanks!

Once you get settled into a diaper size, I highly recommend going the S&S route with them. Like I said, we hardly ever would run out and it was nice to know we would get a box delivered every month. Wipes are also good too as we would include those.

Typically if you call to cancel, there's a decent chance they'll give you a couple months free to try and convince you to stay.

Worth a shot.

How are you getting these to devices? I see the option to stream but it asks for $ for mp3. I'm not the most tech savvy guy alive so it may be a simple rip process that I am not privy to.

In the amazon music app, it let's me download it to my device. The only catch is that I can only play it through amazon music player, not any other app. I'm not tech savvy at all, but it clearly separates the cloud library and device library. I have only put two records on my device that way and they show up on my device. All the other prime music that I have in my cloud does not.

$50 Fire Tablets? I might buy a 6 pack to cover each bathroom in the house and the kitchen.
Given that you can now download content onto the device, and that this version of the Fire comes with a micro SD card slot - I'm all in. Might even do that 6 pack idea and have Xmas gifts knocked out for the family.

I've never used any of these (apple lover  )... Can you put apps on the micro SD?
From the page of the SD card Amazon is pushing with these:

  • Download your apps and games directly to the SD card

The device has 8 GB built in, and you can add up to another 128 GB via the card. Hows the app library?
