AMC's "The Killing" - Season 3 (1 Viewer)

Finally got around to starting this series (Netflix giving it a final season convinced me, for some reason).

Really good through the first 8 episodes. Enos is great. I normally have very little interest in murder whodunnit's, but this one is well-executed so far.

Without spoiling anything, is the S1 finale really going to be that terrible?

I haven't heard much about the show, except that the S1 finale is terrible. It's more of a morbid curiosity now. Pulling off a murder whoodunnit's finale well seems to be a nearly impossible feat.

Seasons 2-4 pretty good too?

The season 1 finale won't be terrible if you don't care to know "who done it"...

:goodposting: Watching on Netflix won't leave you feeling <_< like those that watched it "live" felt..

Does it drive anyone else nuts that she does not ever wet her lips or use chapstick? In every scene her lips look like she just scaled the back side of Everest.

I only read about the terrible feedback the show got after completing the first two seasons.

The effect was lost on me as a Netflix binge watcher.

Finished S2 and started watching the S3 opener.

The S1 finale didn't bother me as it would've as a weekly watcher, but S2 as a whole really started to wear on me.

I kept watching and do like the show overall, but there was a lot of eyerolling in S2.

S3 looks like a much needed reboot.

Getting through S3, and wow, what a turnaround. I'm sure the end will suck, but S3 is shaping up to be one of the really great seasons of TV.

S3 focuses more on the characters and relationships with less of the "whodunnit we've got to try to keep the network procedural crowd from getting bored" thing going on. Holder's really always been the best thing about the show, and I'd watch a show with just him hanging out with the street kids. Bullet was quite a stomach punch.

The additions to the cast have also been great with Seward and Holder's new partner. That dude's great in anything I've ever seen.

I am a tad upset that they apparently teased me with Jewel Staite. Fantastic opening scene, complete with her admiring Holder's "Serenity" tattoo, then not much of anything. Though, I'm not sure what I would've expected.

It wasn't as bad when you can just play the S2 premiere right after.

But I agree in the sense that the back half of S1 and most of S2 was a hot mess. Mostly entertaining, but a mess. They fell into all the whoodunnit tropes, and it got ugly. Just a series of suspecting damn near every character on the show and wasting an episode chasing a suspect that the audience knew didn't do it (based on which episode it was).

The show really has some great characters that I think held it above water and made it worth watching. It seems like they finally figured that out in S3.

The show was just a hot mess from the start IMO. They had some decent actors, cinematography and atmosphere, but the writing was just one cartoonish contrivance after another.

Can't disagree with that. I'm not sure there's ever been a show I've watched that I had such a hard time figuring out how much I liked (Sons of Anarchy comes to mind).

I think there are some legitimately awesome things about the show, but yeah, the contrivances are pretty bad. I don't think they are nearly as bad in S3 though. So far, there's really only been one big rabbit hole (Pastor Mike) and unlike S1 with the teacher, they didn't piss away 3 episodes on it. There are still some other issues, but they seem less frequent in S3.

Quite a remarkable turnaround, imo..

I really like every season. I thought the acting was great. One of the problems I think is for 45 min of the show they just muddled about with the plot then tried too hard to rev it up at the end. I just finished the final season. I thought it was better paced, but I did binge watch it.

Again the highlight for me was Enos and Kinnaman. I thought they crushed it. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it more than most because I was more focused on that aspect of the show. Also in my opinion it was such a wasted opprotunity. This could've been an outstanding show but it wasn't. The execution just wasn't there for that.

Pretty much my opinion. That Linden/Holder relationship was great, and I didn't mind the shortcomings as much.

I thought Seasons 3 and 4 were much better. If Seasons 1 and 2 could've been combined into 1 season without as many red herrings, it would've made the series better overall.

The show was always at it's best with Linden and Holder sitting in a car smoking, it didn't need all the manufactured suspense.

I'm finishing this show up tonight, have the last two episodes to go. Seasons three and four have been in my opinion much better than one and two. Three was terrific.

Stephen Holder is up there with Jessie Pinkman as one of my favorite characters ever. I would watch more seasons just to see what Holder was up to.

 Just looking at her chapped lips made my lips feel dry. I watched the last episode yesterday, and I liked the ending.
