***American Idol Season 13*** (1 Viewer)

Adam seems like a parody act. He might be able to sing, but no way in hell is he a contender. And that Daniel kid seems lost up there. Would have much rather seen Savion and Michael Simean (is that his name) advance than those two.
is Adam the fat Sideshow Bob looking kid? totally agree if so- he can sing, but it's like he's doing his best Jack Black imitation without anything genuine behind it.

was also surprised the Savion kid didn't make it.

but that Daniel kid has some talent (raw) and will pull in the votes from the target demographic- young girls and grandmas. agree with the post above about locked in for top 10.

The judges probably did Daniel a disservice by not sending him home to develop a little more, but his cute factor is off the charts.

Separately, it was odd to hear Harry, who is usually all about chords and pockets, giving Nick the critique to use his smile more.

Those two should have been cut......but America voted and that is what the voters wanted.

So be it. They both to me are way out of their league. Adam can sing but is not in any way shape or form ever going to be a recording star that this show aims to produce. Not even close. And the kid....he is way over his head. He has a lot of potential, but this is way above him right now. He would have been perfect for season one LOL.

Can't believe Shi didn't make the cut.

And that one black chick can't possibly be that annoying naturally, can she? It's gotta be an act, right??

Is it just me, or does the Voice just tower over AI talent-wise? I mean, 75% of the top 24 wouldn't stand a chance of making it past a knockout round on the Voice. Terrible.
I agree with the voice talent being "better". age-limit has something to do with it, and it seems less about plucking an unproven kid from anonymity (back-story) and more just trying to get celebrity singers to banter with each other while picking already talented/professional singers.

that said- remember that Voice winner who... did anything? AI is a machine- even the pretty crappy kids get at least one big album out of it, and of course some of them have become huge, legitimate stars. the Voice seems resigned to be a TV show only.

eta: I did notice that AI borrowed some of that Voice banter format for the auditions- allowing and showing much more Harry joking around and micing the production team to get a laugh-track going. pure steal there- but it made AI better... because ultimately, IMO, the singing talent show thing has played itself out.
No age limit, and the Voice allows people who have already had a contract to audition. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I know AI had stricter age limits and you weren't allowed to audition if you've already been under contract.

My brother-in-law's fiancee tried out in Nashville this year. Got a yes from Keith but no from J-Lopez and Harry, who told her to come back next year. She's pretty good, but admittedly just another Nashville country singer. You'll find a dozen of her walking down Broadway.
What round was this?

First - I hate this sing a Motown song that AI does every year. It is just terrible. This gives me no idea of what the singer is going to be like as an artist. I liked that last year they did not do all these theme weeks and the song choices the contestants had seemed to be opened up a little. i.e Lots more to choose from.

With regards to the Voice winner or people ever doing anything. Most of the folks who have done well are Blake's people because it seems like he takes a real genuine interest in people succeeding. So, most of the people who have done things are country singers --

Craig Wayne Boyd - Just released a song and went to #1 on the charts.

Cassadee Pope - Has an album and I believe it did well.

The Swon Brothers -Did not win but they released an album that did well.

So while there are not any smashing successes from The Voice I still see it as a better show and one that has had some better results as of late than AI.

Mowtown week does suck form the most part. Unless they sing something by Stevie Wonder its usually boring for the show...not because the songs suck, but because most songs picked don't showcase vocal range or are something like Rockin Robin. Ugh.

This is Jax's show to lose IMO. The most interesting and original singer IMO.

Overall I think the show is weak though. I have seen way too many shaky, nervous, pitchy performances on both sides.

Shi stunk last week. She really stunk. That's why she is out.

Shi never had a shot imo. Voice is too quirky and she is too nervous. Lambert was right that she was not ready.

Jax's dress choice was genius. She's showing up everywhere, incl. Billboard, People, Yahoo Sports, mashable..

I can't believe the preschooler made it. He has no business being this far. Yeah it's a cute story and all that but he's in way over his head.

I've disagreed with Keith, Harry and JLo quite a bit lately. Seems like some of the stuff they haven't liked I really enjoyed and some of the stuff they loved I thought was ordinary.

Jax is by far the best of the girls in my opinion. I thought Quentin was the heavy favorite among the guys last week but Qaasim destroyed everyone. He may not win it but I don't think anyone will deliver a better performance than that.

Can someone clue me into the whole dress thing with Jax? She wore a dress. She looked great. Am I missing something?

She didn't wear a dress. She wore THE dress almost everyone was talking about this time last week.

if you just search Idol and dress you will see the PR value she got.

Two other people that have also done well that just also happen to be from Blake's team is RaeLynn she had a big country hit this year and also Danielle Bradbery's first album did well in country charts.

I've disagreed with Keith, Harry and JLo quite a bit lately. Seems like some of the stuff they haven't liked I really enjoyed and some of the stuff they loved I thought was ordinary.
It's reached the point that I would FF past the judges' critiques if my wife wouldn't get annoyed. They're completely worthless. It's so obvious their comments are part of an agenda most of the time and not honest assessments. Jax was the most glaring example last night but it happens constantly.

My tiers

Tier 1

Tyanna, Jax, Quentin, Qasim

Tier 2

Bearded Guy (Mark?), Alanna Duru

Tier 3

Weird Girl, Rayvon, Nick, Good looking white guy (Claude?)

Tier 4

Sarina (Man Hands), Young Country Girl, Loren

Tier 5

The Kid, Sideshow Bob, Alexis

They are actually both signed to Scott Borchetta's label (new Idol mentor/producer)

You need another tier above Tier 1 for Clark Beckham alone.

I thought she was terrific. Couldn't believe how harsh the judges got with her. They gush over the preschooler too and it's pretty clear he's a novelty at this point and isn't on par with anyone else who got that far. I thought the Buddy Holly kid was much better to name one.

I was happy with lst night's eliminations Quentin was obvious choice for guy wild card, and is growing on me. But I was afraid they were going to put through Screaming Loren.

Glad it will become two hours again. I am all for condensing out fluff, but last noght felt rushed.

With the pre-schooler advancing to the final 12 I'm now convinced America is trolling everyone. He was putrid last night. At least Harry ripped him. This has become an absolute joke. I'm sure he's a nice little kid and he can sing but he's taking spots away from far more deserving singers.

packersfan, you underestimate the power of a cute boy. ) Not sure why he ditched the guitar, which he used in audition, but that might have given him some more security. I still think he will make top ten.

Ha. I guess so. I thought he was atrocious last night and has been steadily getting worse with every performance. The fact he got voted in over Quentin was a joke. Good thing the judges fixed that. He really has no business being there.

Jax has been my favorite but I didn't think last night was one of her strongest efforts. The two younger teenage girls were better I thought. The guy who did the James Brown song was the best of the guys. He may be making a real run at it now.

Just saw a commercial that said the top 11 perform tonight...I wonder if someone dropped out or got the boot?

IMO Tyanna is the best female singer, Clark the best male singer.

Rooting for Jax.

Song spoilers for tonights show...the article also says "Top 11's 'party song' spoilers revealed" but it lists 12. Weird.

the jax chick is the one with the stupid cross tear non-tattoo?

very talented, but I don't like her "artistry"... feels really forced, self-indulgent- and... I just don't like her choices musically (although I respect that she's making choices instead of just karoke-ing up there).

so what about terrence trent darby kid? I didn't see last night, and I honestly can't tell if he can sing or not. crazy, trainwreck fun performer though.

Quniton or something like that. He's entertaining enough to get votes for now, but I'm not sure how well he can really sing enough to make it past the top 6 or 7. Clark is head and shoulders above the rest and really proved it last night. Tyanna killed it last night as well too.

I thought Quentin was the stylish kid who's not that great a singer, but has an overall good presence and tone.

the kid I'm talking about has the long braids and does a lot of James Brown dance moves.

Ah, you're right. Qaasim is his name. Reread my above sentence but replace Quinton with Qaasim.

They screwed up big time putting this kid. My daughters' 15 and absolutely loves this kid...all her friends do. I'm afraid he's going to be around for quite a while despite being well below the others are far as singing goes.

I think the kid has the voice, but is just young and struggles controlling it on the big stage. maybe, once he's had some weeks of the pro tutoring while doing the show, he'll settle in and start singing better (to his ability). granted- he doesn't have a "big" voice that tends to work better for this kind of show.

not a fan of the predator. I like the duru chick. I hope the little boy stays in cause he is so putrid, it's fun to watch. Joey needs to stop smoking or close her mouth. jax is original but man, she just looks like she'd be crazy enough to stab me and set the house on fire. Tracy Chapman is pretty cool too in limited doses. Clark is the winner here, no?

Solid reasoning for picking the winner here. I'm on board.

One of the Top 12 will be cut and not sing. That's why 12 songs/ 11 performances.
Why name a top 12 if one is gonna be cut before they even get to sing? Stupid.
They all sang last night. They removed the results show this year.
Yeah they sang right after finding out they were in the top 12...at least half of them were emotional/shocked/excited, which affected the performances IMO. Maybe they see it as a test to see who can overcome emotion and perform, but it definitely affected some of them.

I prefer this format. the results show was horrible on a lot of levels... stopped watching it completely, even in seasons I watched and followed.

I guess if its the new format, Im gonna have to live with it.

Loved Joeys performance.
