American Sniper - Clint Eastwood's latest movie (1 Viewer)

Let the back peddling begin.
I take it that was directed towards me. Care to point out where that happened.
.You called him a coward. Sounds pretty judgemental.
Reading comprehension is your friend.
It is exactly what you said. He has admitted to killing a women who was firing an RPG. By your words he is a coward.
I didn't read his book. I've never seen an interview. If you say in fact he has admitted to this, then yes I'll say he is a coward. Call me judgmental. I'm not alone. Welcome to the internet.
I'm curious why you'd be in page 6 of the thread about this movie if you haven't seen it, have no desire to, haven't read his book and never saw an interview. And to come in with such a strong opinion as well. You're right...the internet...
What's the point of having an opinion if it isn't strong and youre not afraid to defend it? Am I not entitled to that? This movie has sparked quite a few interesting bar conversations over the past couple of weeks. I was called "unamerican" by someone just because I had no interest in seeing it. Of course I've been following this thread to read opinions about it considering it this. I didn't realize there were rules here concerning when I was allowed to post.
Who said you weren't allowed to do anything? I just think it's weird. Maybe you should see the movie so people don't have to respond in hypotheticals and generalities to you, and you don't have to take people's word at what they're saying.

Again, just odd you have no interest in seeing it, but are interested in people's opinions about it.

Let's just say I find it interesting the stay people in our society obsess over. This movie seems to fit that description right now. It's all over social media. Patriotism, by some peoples definition, is an extremely laughable paradigm.

I suppose if a woman was pointing a gun at someone, it is cowardly to defend oneself. Yeah, says the iToughguy.
How can one be the aggresor and defender at the same time?
Wow. So deep.
Thanks. Just to make sure I understand your position; I decide to rob a gas station, I pull a gun on the clerk, she pulls one on me, shooting her will be 'defending' myself?
Can my analogy involve the clerk beating you with a rubber hose?

Joetrow and SproutDaddy are digging themselves into a deep hole. Keep digging fellas!

Footing is very solid over here.
Calling someone a coward for shooting some crazed women who is about to kill a bunch of his buddies is solid footing? That is some crazy ### logic.
I suppose running away scared makes you a hero in his world.
:lmao:

There you have it. Two of the MOST insightful posters at FBGs.

You can't be serious. You do understand the difference between WAR and a strong armed robbery, right? Have you ever served? If you did you wouldn't make stupid statements like this.
Mainly that an armed robbery usually involves less victims? Do you understand the similaraties between an armed robbery and an un-just invasion of a country? I have not served but I'd be willing to bet everything I own I could find plenty who have who share the same sentiment.

Of course you haven't served.

However, whether it's unjust or not is irrelevant. Kyle was a soldier doing his job. Your analogy is ridiculous.

Sorry, my bad. So if someone is paying me to rob the gas station then I can shoot her?

I will never understand the level of admiration that people try and show the armed forces. I think a ton of it is the 'murica hell yeah side of it. I wish we gave the same accolades to cops and firefighters. I knew we were too far gone when I started seeing "veterans Only" parking at supermarkets.

Uhm...we already do. Because they have "served" their city (and a lot come from the military anyways). We do that for anyone who puts their life on the line for others.

If it weren't for the American military, we'd all be speaking russian right now.

If it weren't for people like Chris Kyle, America as you know it wouldn't exist.

But because of people like Chris Kyle, people that are willing and able to go into battle and fight wars most of us will never be exposed to, because of him and millions like him we can go to sleep at night with no fear of an invasion, with the certainty that tomorrow we'll wake up, hop in our car, go to work, make money, come home eat a nice meal and generally live the most advance lifestyle known to mankind. If your family income is above $32,500 annually, you are right now in the top 1% of the world. People on welfare make more than that. Yeah, i'm glad we have a strong military and I'm glad we have people that volunteer for it, so we don't have to send our sons and daughters off into a draft.

FBGs don't send their kids because it is setup to attract the under class of our country.

It is a tiny minority that join the armed forces with a plan. Most do so because it is their best If not only option.

It us a tiny minority that "volunteer" out of some deep calling to protect our country.

That doesn't mean they don't deserve our respect and appreciation, but it also doesn't mean you need to puke some bleeding heart rambling post like the above.

Don't you live in San Antonio? Seems like you aren't paying much attention, the Air Force has very few people that fall into this category.

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know, that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. Youneed me on that wall. We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post.

In all career paths people earn higher levels of "respect". Although that is not where I was going with this.

It is the making men into more than what they are that I am focusing on.

Thankful for the protection they provide.. Can do without the propaganda building all of them up into superheroes.

cue Lee Greenwood

Good men sometimes do bad things and bad men sometimes do good things. I doubt it's black and white and I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to be someone having to make the call on shooting a woman or child to protect my buddies or even for fear that they were in danger.

I have never served and not military minded, but I would imagine that most of us have no idea what it would be like to be thrust into life or death situations weekly or daily and the types of decisions that have to be made.

2008 Syracuse University Study

In conclusion, among race, socioeconomic status, and immigration
status, socioeconomic status is the only significant predictor of having ever
served in the military. Class differences in military enlistment likely reflect
differences in the non-military occupational opportunity, structured along class
lines. This research shows that the all-volunteer force continues to see overrepresentation
of the working and middle classes, with fewer incentives for
upper class participation.
Of course this isn't the point of my post, but lets handle the nitpicking one attempt at a time.

The study really does not support your claim. It only supports you claim if by "under class" you meant 75% of the population, but I know of nobody who considers the bottom 75% of the US population the 'under class'. But I am sure that will be your position, the 'tiny minority' of 75%.

The published study shows that socioeconomic status is the ONLY significant predictor. I'll let you spin yourselves into the ground over the numbers if you like. Maybe you can refer me to another Heritage Foundation link.

Or we can get back to the point - you aren't a hero because you joined the military. There are hero's in the military, and I appreciate what our military provides - but the over the top slobbing of nobs a la tommyboy... lets skip that.

The study found a socioeconomical link to military service, however that link was not anything like what you described. It found no difference between those in the bottom three quarters of income levels. Only at the top income levels did they find they were much less likely to serve. That is what the study said and that in no way supports your statements.\

Quoting the provided study:

Indeed, additional analysis (not shown here) finds that the highest income quartile was significantly less likely to have served than the lowest, while the second and third quartiles were not significantly different from the lowest quartile in their likelihood to serve.

Only at the top income levels did that find they were much less likely to serve. That is what the study said and that in no way supports your statements.
Dig away jonjon.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: You don't have the slightest comprehension of what the study you posted says.
