Andre Johnson Injury Updates (1 Viewer)

Coach Gary Kubiak indicated after Thursday's practice that Andre Johnson (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars.

Kubiak continues to be on the optimistic side. "He was better today. He told us that he felt better," said Kubiak. "He had his normal day of practice ... We took another step forward." With Thursday's step in the right direction, we now suspect Johnson will play barring a Friday setback. Since Tuesday, Johnson has jumped 10 spots to No. 4 among fantasy receivers in Rotoworld's Week 8 rankings.
Andre Johnson (hamstring) was less optimistic than coach Gary Kubiak after practice for a second straight day."I felt a lot better in practice," said Johnson, "but not where I want to be." Johnson still feels some "tugging" in the back of his leg, but the good news is that he pushed himself harder by doing one-on-one drills with cornerbacks Thursday. Asked if he would play Sunday, Johnson replied, "I'm not sure yet. We're just taking it day by day." Kubiak has deemed his star receiver a game-time decision.

I really doubt he plays. I'm guessing Kubiak is just playing mind games.
Yea, I'll be surprised if he plays this week. Feeling tugging in his hammy within 72 hours of gametime doesn't bode well for him to go.

Any word on Johnson for Friday? Also if he plays, is he back to his old self?

I am trying to decide between Gaffney and Johnson so am thirsty for any information. No, this is not a Who Do I start question...I can make that call. Just looking for the latest word on Johnson, that's all. :-)

Some Houston beat reporter (didn't catch his name) was on Cowherd this morning and said he didn't think AJ would play Sunday. Said AJ didn't sound confident, and that he thought AJ would be back next week.

Anyone see the part where it showed him at practice yesterday on nfl network? He was slow and jogging his routes. Small segment and maybe he picked it up in clips they didnt show.

I'm not counting on him this week. What bothers me a little is that Andre seems to be ok with not playing?? Doesn't seem even a little upset about missing another game.

Per Rotoworld:

The Houston Chronicles John McClain tells PFT Live that he doesn't expect Andre Johnson (hamstring) to play in Week 8 against the Jaguars.

A long-time beat writer, McClain is a trusted voice on Texans matters. Johnson stated Thursday that he will not play until he feels comfortable, and his leg may not be there just yet. Johnson is officially a game-time decision. Be sure to have an alternative on hand before Sunday.

Andre Johnson (hamstring) insists he will not play unless he feels "comfortable" by Sunday.

"If I don't feel like I can play, I'm not going to go out there," said Johnson. "I definitely won't do anything to put myself in any danger." Johnson increased his workload in Thursday's practice, but he's still not over the hump. "You're encouraged, but when you're not where you want to be, that's a little bit discouraging," Johnson said. "I'm encouraged. I improved from where I was at yesterday, so that's a good thing."

I did see that, it didn't look great. He definitely looked tentative and to be going at 60% speed. But then again it was about 3-4 seconds of footage.

No way he plays. Too much at stake with a bye week coming up.

Time for us to start looking at alternatives, fellas.

While the notion that we miss another week (especially playing a BIG game in my Biggest $/longest running FFL) stings a lot, this is 'good news'. The last thing any of us want is AJ going out and re-aggravating the hammy and being out another 4-5 weeks, or even the rest of the season.

The Houston Chronicle reports Texans WR Andre Johnson (hamstring) didn't practice Friday and coach Gary Kubiak said he's "not ready to play" Week 8 vs. Jacksonville. Kubiak said he kept Johnson out of practice Friday so he could prepare to get him ready for Week 9 vs. Cleveland.

(Updated 10/28/2011).

Fantasy Analysis

This is not surprising news seeing how Johnson didn't have a flawless week of practice and the Texans said all along they would do what is right by their star receiver. It's a shame Fantasy owners won't have Johnson back for Week 8, but it does appear he could be ready to return Week 9. Keep the high-end Fantasy receiver reserved for at least one more week.

Andre Johnson (hamstring) was held out of Friday's practice, and afterwards coach Gary Kubiak acknowledged that he's not ready to play yet.

Johnson did seem to take a step in the right direction by practicing on Wednesday and Thursday, but experienced continued problems with his surgically repaired hamstring and has been deemed unfit for game action. The Texans likely held Johnson out of Friday's practice to avoid a setback. Jacoby Jones will be the team's starting split end against Jacksonville's top-six pass defense. Owen Daniels will remain Houston's best bet for receiving production.Source: John McClain on TwitterOct 28 - 1:42 PM

I had started the "Andre Johnson surgical procedure thread" that was scoffed at by so many. This delay in him taking the field is not a suprise to me given the fact that most hamstring injuries dont have surgical procedures done to correct them - especially if mild to moderate in nature. Give him credit though Andre is a warrior but I frankly don't expect him back till week 12..... after the bye.

I can't afford AJ to be out this long. Especially since I had Britt, too. Hell, I had to take a chance on TO because of the injuries to my WRs (got Julio as well). I'm treading water at 4-and-3, and wondering how good my team would be without these lengthy and season ending injuries.

Just be ready to play big when you're back, AJ. My team will need you.

Glad you feel vindicated. :bowtie: And while I hope you are wrong, you may very well be proven correct. That said, in the meantime I'll leave the heavy lifting to those actually in the know, and listening to guys like John McClain for analysis. Everything else is speculation at this point.

Agreed.....we can wait for John McClain to come down from the mountain with his stone tablets or just use a little logical speculation here ourselves. You can keep your head stuck in the sand.....ever here of "Occams Razor"? see below...vindicated?...you bet  From RotoworldAndre Johnson (hamstring, out) acknowledged Friday that his surgically repaired hamstring is only at 70-75 percent. It sounds like he may be questionable for Week 9. The Texans have a bye in Week 10. "I don’t feel like I’m ready to play," Johnson conceded. "I’m not at full speed yet." A more optimistic coach Gary Kubiak called Johnson "real close" to playing in games. Jacoby Jones will get at least one more start.Source: Nick Scurfield on Twitter Oct 28 - 4:19 PM

 If I remember correctly Occams Razor is that the simplest explanation is usually the right one, correct? That's my hazy recollection... :PDon't misunderstand, I'm not a head in the sand guy and mean no disrespect to you. I'm just saying that we're all just guessing unless we're using info gleened from informed sources. And those to me are made up primarily of beat writers and the like. Not random opinions here or guys doing news blurb analysis on fantasy websites. That's all...

I scour for reports from beat writers and the like. There are others who have earned my trust: Lombardi, Schefter, Mort, etc. And those who've done the exact opposite (John Clayton). But Lombardi, Mort and Schefter lean on the beat writers and internal sources (team and agents) as well.

Rotoworld 11/2/11

Andre Johnson (hamstring) will not practice on Wednesday.

Coach Gary Kubiak simply said that Johnson is day to day and he has a shot at playing in Sunday's game against the Browns. Look for Johnson to test his surgically-repaired hamstring in a limited practice on Thursday and take it from there. If he does end up sitting out this week, it would make sense for the Texans to hold him out in Week 10 as well. Their bye looms in Week 11. Source: Scott Petrak on Twitter Nov 2 - 10:32

WR Johnson has 'a shot' to play
Andre Johnson, WR HOUNews: Texans coach Gary Kubiak held WR Andre Johnson, who has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury, out of practice Wednesday because he said he was sore. Kubiak went on to say that "there's a shot" Johnson could play Week 9 vs. Cleveland.Analysis: The word the last week has been Johnson would return in Week 9, but hamstring injuries definitely can linger, so it's not surprising the Texans aren't guaranteeing Johnson's return this week. They have plenty of experience with these kinds of injuries. Earlier in the season they dealt with Arian Foster's lingering hamstring issue, but Johnson's has proven to be far worse. The Browns have actually been very good at guarding receivers in 2011, particularly shutdown corner Joe Haden, holding them to 13.6 Fantasy points per week, which is second lowest in the NFL. However, if Johnson is active Week 9, regardless of the matchup, you are going to start him. Stay tuned.

At this point, you have to assume he's out until week 12. If he doesn't play this week they're probably going to want to hold him out until after the bye. Hopefully everyone holding onto AJ is in a position to make the playoffs and he can come back and make an impact then.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Thursday that Andre Johnson (hamstring) is "feeling better," and will likely be a game-time decision against the Browns.

The Texans have yet to release Thursday's practice report, but Kubiak's words are encouraging after Johnson sat out on Wednesday. Johnson should be listed as questionable on tomorrow's injury report, and will likely be a true game-time call. With the Texans playing at 1:00 ET, you won't be forced to sit or start Johnson based on partial information.

More BS from Kubiak to get their opponent to prepare for AJ even though he's not playing.

I highly doubt he plays this week. Just last week he was saying he wasn't near 100% and felt tugging in his hamstring where he had the surgery. No practice yet this week means no one should be expecting him to play at this point.

Bramel has been hinting for a month to not look for Andre until after the bye. So this is just moving along that timeline. Anything earlier is gravy but dont expect him to play.

Texans | More on Andre Johnson

Wed, 02 Nov 2011 21:37:09 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said WR Andre Johnson (hamstring) was sore after working out Monday, Oct. 31, and he was given a "day of rest" Wednesday, Nov. 2, missing practice. "We pushed Andre on Monday," Kubiak said. "He came out and had a real strong workout, (we) pushed him. He got sore on us, so that means for us to slow down a little bit, so we gave him the day off today. We'll see where we're at tomorrow."

Yep, had a feeling this is how it was gonna go. Makes sense to sit him next week now with the bye the following week. No point in pushing him when he can get another two weeks of healing.

I finally had to trade him, and didn't get that much either (redraft league)

I'm in fear of not making the playoffs an the guy just can't stay on my roster. :(
