Texans HC Kubiak Tuesday Q and A

(on WR Andre Johnson) “He’s something. I’ve told you all before, I’ve been around some good wide outs in this league and there’s no reason why this guy can’t be one of the best. He earns the ball because of the way he practices. When you come out and operate the way he operates, I know you go up as a coach into your office and feel pretty committed to him. He’s a leader on this team by the way he works. We’re expecting great things out of him and we just want him to keep going.”

Let the "Dre" hype never end!

(I am rooting, he is on my dynasty team. Now is the time. I just hope I am still not saying that 3 years from now!)

I selected him last season, and he absolutely killed me. Of all the guys that did me in, Johnson was the most disappointing. Talented, big, fast, strong, Johnson has all the tools. It all comes down to Carr and that offensive line.

Take him, but tread lightly. Could offer great value, though.

Rod Smith always got plenty of opportunities as the #1 WR in the Denver system. If Kubiak brings that same approach to the Texans, then AJ could see a lot of targets. Maybe this is the year AJ begins to deliver on his potential.

I think the ship is headed in the right direction. As bad as AJ was, he seemed to have a decent # of receptions last year. Not that it helped me because my league is not PPR, but still that coupled with Kubiak has got to be a good sign.

As stated in my WR critique...ability has never been Andre's problem.

He's overrated as a fantasy WR this year.

I'll put this comment with Brett Favre's recent comments about the Green Bay Packers of 2006.

"This is the most talented team I've ever played with."

:lmao:

Andre Johnson is a perfect example of someone the "experts" won't rank highly based on the previous season. But he has shown signs of busting out in the past, even with no o-line to crate time and no real threat on the other side to create room. He is a genetic freak ready to bust- and the good work ethic is good to read about.

Everyone tries to figure out who will break out, and there is nobody more primed than him. I see top 6-7 if healthy.

It reminds me of a comment Bill Parcell made about some nobody.

"This young man has a great future in front of him."

Not really sure why it's so funny. I thought it was pretty much understood that Johnson was a top notch talent on a bottom feeder team with poor opportunities. I agree with both him and LHUCKS, talent and ability has never been the issue for Johnson. So pretty much this is just reinforcing what we already know.

Oh it's funny.I could care less about talent. Call me a Missouri fan.

Hmm...

Well here's what I see. Kubiak has produced a 1000 yard reciever every year as an OC, (11 with his #1 reciever and one with shannon sharpe). Sure he had talent in Rod Smith and Jerry Rice, and while AJ is nothing compared to these guys, his talent is undeniable. Oh and lets not forget that his QB is not Young or Elway. But I do see a very similar and good fantasy situation to Kubiak's first seasons as OC in Denver. Statistically, a very mediocre QB in John Elway who exploded after Shanahan and Kubiak came on the scene. Coupled with Rod Smith, an undrafted WR who barely had any appreciable PT before his breakout season of 1997 where he went for 1000+ and has not looked back since.

Much of the praise went to Shanny but some of it obviously was due to Kubiak's scheme. In comparison, AJ is much more of a "sure thing" to me than Rod Smith was in his early years. He's comming from a storied college program that has a history of great WR's and with much more physical ability and a QB who has a very similar skill set to both Young and Elway.

Dont take it from me, but i like what I see in Houston (and this comming from a Jags fan)

Your dynasty team is LOADED. Why post the roster of a guppy league?

Andre Johnson is a TOTAL STUD but he has a ZERO at QB.
Oh, hey there. Welcome to the boards. You must be new. We like to watch games and then comment on them and analyze the players. You should try watching this team called the 'Texans' play sometime. :hey:

Moulds will have better numbers... Mark my words.
Party pooper. I will be sure to resuurect this topic from the dead at the end of the season.
Don't worry. I will, too. AJ is very good, but Moulds is still a stud WR. The sooner Carr realizes that the better off the Texans will be.Heck, it was only 2-3 years ago when none other than Terrell Owens was asked the following question. "If you could start a team around any WR other than yourself, who would it be?" His answer: Eric Moulds. The guy was cursed with QB play even worse than the bum David Carr, on average, be he was special. Maybe age will catch up with him this year, but if Carr knows what he's doing he'll throw a ton of passes to Moulds as AJ runs the deep routes.

I have seen better. My "Dynasty" team LOOKS good because it is loaded with young exciting players. But many have not proven themselves yet. And to make it less of a "guppy" league, I just traded away LJ. Thanks for the criticism though.

Dynasty can look that way. I'm head to head in a division with a guy who has LJ, SA, CJ, DJax & Driver in dynasty. He also had Chris Brown & Duece, but luckily their values have taken a hit.His team is loaded with potential. Only a handful of those players played a full season last year. I wouldn't be surprised if that team had a top rookie pick this year and traded it away to grab some of those "studs" you're talking about. Likely targeted a lot of injured players during last season as well.

I was at the texans - seahawks game last year week six, and came away assured the problem was twofold

1) David Carr

2) Unimaginative/crappy offense

as a Johnson owner I always wondered wtf is the problem here. Seeing them live answered a lot of questions. There are subtleties within a live game that you dont catch on regular tv. One thing is obvious about Carr, he cant throw with touch/accuracy or go through checkdowns. ( make that two things). He litterally cannot hit a moving target. if a WR runs a flag he cant drop it in over the shoulder. On a crossing pattern its either way too high, way behind, or in the feet. Unless you want to base you offense around the five hook Carr has limited prospect as a QB. I here over and over how crappy the O-line is, but thats BS. Many Qbs get pressure and still get the ball out and hit the open WR. He also panics and takes off running or dumps off to DD too often. I dont think Capers or Palmer were helping things none, their system isnt a good one for FFB points

AJ didnt play in the game I went to so I cant comment on his ability but after seeing that team operate I am amazed he has put up the numbers he has.

IF Kubes can straighten out Carr, AJ could be very productive maybe top five someday. He went for eleven hundred yds his second year. That wasnt a fluke. Just my :2cents:
