Andrew Hawkins WR CIN (Maybe something to this kid!) (1 Viewer)

So AJ Green goes down in the Steelers game. And who steps up?? Not Caldwell not Simpson. But this Andrew Hawkins WR kid. Undrafted Rookie who played 2 years in the CFL. He looked really good out there. He had 5 Rec for 56 yards. I mean he isn't very big 5'7 AND 175LBS. But he looked fast and had good hands.

Anyone know much more about this guy???

I'm in a 32 team dynasty league. And I've stashed Taylor Price WR and Tandon Doss deep on my bench. But my problem is Maclin is probably out this week. And all my other players I could start at my flex position are on byes. And I HAVE TO WIN THIS WEEK TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. SO I ONLY BRING THIS GUY UP BECAUSE TANDON DOSS AND TAYLOR PRICE AREN'T DOING ANYTHING FOR ME SO I MIGHT PICK THIS KID UP IN THERE PLACE CAUSE I NEED SOME POINTS THIS WEEK.

SO ANY INFO ON THIS KID WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

he played some in Canada and was the runner up to Jesse Holley on the Jerry Jones reality show. His big brother Artrell Hawkins played with the Bengals. He's tough as nails and a very hard worker. Upside is limited, but he can at least be a solid PPR guy, especially if AJ Green misses time or becomes easier to shut down.

Drawing a conclusion from one game is dangerous. I think you are overstating things by saying they trust him more than Simpson or Caldwell. That being said, I think there is little risk in dropping Doss or Price for him.

I just don't see how this guy was trusted more then Caldwell and Jerome SImpson?? Color me confused.
Apples and oranges. He gets on the field for gimmick plays specifically designed to get the ball in his hands because he can make plays. Caldwell and Simpson are both conventional WRs that are not used in the same way at all. Hawkins has some short term possibilities to make big plays on reverses, screens, etc like J.Ford for the Raiders. That may be enough to make him usable in a 32 team league. He is not a threat to ever challenge for the #1 or #2 WR spot even with Green out. Tate and/or Caldwell would be the 2 affected there. Hawkins role remains the same except they may run more of his types of plays if they can't move the ball without Green.

I just read that this kid only had 15 snaps. Pretty good to have only 15 snaps and get 5 rec for 56 yards. And You know the Ravens are easier to throw on then run on. And Ray Lewis is out. I think this guy could get maybe 60 to 80 yards this time.

I'm grabbing and starting Hawkins this week.

Only due to the fact that all the rest of my WRs

are either injured or on BYE.

It's either Hawkins, Bess or Naanee.

:goodposting:I think that involving Hawkins this past week was a conscious decision and part of the game plan going in. When you are playing a divisional game, it's hard to bring out something new and I think that's what the Bengals were doing here with Hawkins. That said, if the kid keeps catching balls maybe he weasels his way into the mix but it's awfully crowded in the long-term with Green-Simpson-Caldwell-Shipley in there. Add in Gresham and there's that fewer balls. Still the kid was exciting to watch last week. Here's to hoping for more success with him :) -QG

Just so we are clear. I just think this guy might be worth a flier as a WR4/WR5 in a 32 team league is all. Anytime a guy gets only 15 total snaps and has 6 targets for 5 REC for 56 yards and 1 Rush for 4 yards. I think we should take notice if something is there. And this was against the Steelers top 5 pass defense too.

A flyer in that size league, I mean sure, why not? This weeks might tell you a little more about where he is really at in terms of things. Though Hawkins hasn't really been a return guy, I think that Cribbs might be a good comparison. Basically he might become an "excitement" guy that they have a number of specialized play for each game (they kinda do the same thing with Brian Leonard now - and Leonard makes one awesome play every single game). Ultimately, I don't think you break your way through that group of receivers without having something at least a little special. The Bengals do have a track record in this regard if you consider that Houshmandzadeh was a 7th rounder.-QG

Does anyone think he could stick in the slot?
I doubt it... Shipley is pretty good in the slot.
Shipley is far better than Hawk. I think it's a mistake to look for Hawk in future years unless he's playing elsewhere or Shipley is opposite Green.
How can anyone make this claim without seeing more of Hawkins ?Hawkins played great when given his first real opportunity. I think we need to see more of a samplebefore making this type of judgment.

cribbs has spent much of the yr as a legit starting wr. not legit as in effective, but that is indeed his role on the browns.

Right. I think that Hawkins could end up similarly situated. -QG

:goodposting: Shipley is a very average slot receiver, imo.

Please bump this thread next summer.Shipley had to play behind/beat out Owens, Ocho, Caldwell, and Simpson for playing time and got 52 for 600 as a rookie. This guy that you expect to be the first 5-7 guy to be successful in the NFL since the 1950s fell into a spot due to injury. Shipley was a consensus all-american pick as Colt McCoy's target.
