Andy Dalton is a QB 1 in fantasy right now (2 Viewers)

A young QB had a bad game?

I don't know when or if people are going to realize that the Browns have a very good defense.

I hope they open up the offense a bit. They also need to just bench BJGE. I don't know why it's hard to understand that Dalton needs a consistent dumpoff option. They also need to get Eifert more involved in the short passing game. He has two huge weapons that are being wasted. Green will command double teams every game, they have got to start taking advantage of that and exploit the holes left in underneath coverage left behind him.

bengals should pursue freeman. he would return aj green to fantasy relevance and put the bengals as legit contenders. dalton is ruining the prime of an immensely talented squad. such a shame.
:lmao:

This is the kind of insight that I come to the Shark Pool for.

at some point he has to have a good game and carry the team in a big game. They were talking super bowl with the assets they've added and their defense and he's the one big cog holding them back. AJ Green makes him look ssooooo much better than he is.

He doesn't run, he has 5 tds vs. 4 picks and 250 yards/week passing. There are only a few QBs in the league that I'd choose Daulton over....said it in the preseason and was blasted for being to harsh and still looks to be the case. They aren't winning anything with him at the helm but they'll stick with him.

Well if winning a SB is the measurement for success then 31 other starting QB are not good enough either.

Seems a bit high of a bar to set on a 3rd year QB to me.

2011* 24 CIN QB 300 516 58.1 3398 20 3.9TD% 13 2.5int% 6.6Y/A 212.4yards/gm 24sk 160yds 4.4sk%
2012 25 CIN QB 329 528 62.3 3669 27 5.1TD% 16 3.0int% 6.9Y/A 229.3yards/gm 46sk 229yds 8.0sk%
2013 26 CIN QB 94 148 63.5 1003 5 3.4TD% 4 2.7int% 6.8Y/A 250.8yards/gm 7sk 28yds 4.5sk%

Career 723com 1192pa 60.7 8070 52 4.4TD% 33int 2.8int% 6.8Y/A 224.2yards/gm 77sk 417yds 6.1sk%

So right now Dalton is on pace for 4012 passing yards 20TD 16int 28sacks. He has improved completion percentage reduced interception rate and sack rate and increased yardage by about 20 yards/game through the addition of rookies and another year of experience with the offense.

About the only thing people could really be asking for from him is a higher number of TD.

Eifert and Bernard will get better as time goes on as will all of the other still very young skill players in this offense.

Wheres the beef?

I wouldn't go that far, Bernard is a very good young player but he is still learning. BJGE is still useful as a closer and short yardage guy. A 60 - 40 split in favor of Bernard should be how they use them. Eifert is going to be good but tight end is the hardest position for rookies to learn on offense. There is a reason why you don't see a ton of rookie tight ends light the league on fire. Even Gronk didn't start putting up big numbers and play a ton of snaps until the end of his rookie year.

Lets not forget Matt Ryan looked this bad his first few years in the league too, and his team was going 1 and done in the playoffs too. Give him time

i dropped him.. Have Newton as my starter. there is enough quality guys on most wires that you could probably get away with not rostering a back up

Apparently never. It's amazing how many people just refuse to see this. It's was said well before the season started and it's been confirmed thru 4 games, Clev can play D.

I agree with this for the most part. Green is constantly seeing press man with safety help. If that is the case, then Cinci needs to expose the other areas of the D. Both of their TEs should be good enough to win those battles. Sanu is pretty good as well. Better yet, Cinci could run the ball to open up PA.

So, there are some players that are just purely matchup dependant.

Dalton has been on quite a hot streak, but these games have come against Buffalo and Detroit.

Cincy is a winning team, which to me usually means opportunity for scores, which is good, but the Jets are a not great matchup statistically.

I take it that Dalton is a QB2 for most people, anyone thinking of plugging him in every week at this point? How do you view the matchup vs the Jets? They just held Brady to no scores again (but if not for the late TD to KT vs NO with 5 seconds left that would have been the third straight no TD game for Brady) - so how to gauge this?

That Jets game was supposed to be a bad matchup. Supposed to be.

325 yards and 5 TD's, and that follows 337 & 3 TDs and 372 & 3 TDs.

I would think the question of whether Dalton can throw deep has been settled now.

Now the question is whether he deserves to be treated as a FF QB1.

I'd say yes.

And by the way he plays MIN Week 16.

Uh, just curious... where did Andy Dalton finish the FF season in your league's total points or avg. FFP/gm rankings?
so you made it to the title game riding him as your number one?
No sir I did not - just fascinated to look at one league's end of season stats and shocked to see him at 4th for total and 5th for average.
use it as leverage to get someone else to draft him early next year.

Wow, just read that gem. :lmao:

Dalton sitting in the #4 spot and will probably pass Stafford this week.

I made it with him as my technical number 1. I had him and A. Smith in my QBBC. Unfortunately I mind f'd things and benched him for A. Smith and lost because of it.

this is why I can't ever see myself owning dalton again. Dropped him mid season because of it, don't even know why I drafted him. Too much beer I guess.

Dalton finished 3rd in my 6pt passing TD league.

1 point ahead of Rivers. I only started him 3 times all year, and week 16 was one of them. Cam was my regular starter.

Dalton is the most boring 3rd ranked QB in history. But he's solid and on a very young offense. No reason why he shouldn't be a top 5 QB next year.

He's QB3 in mine also. I have to scroll down to QB11 to find a player with as many single digit efforts as Dalton on the season.

Because he's not that good is one reason. I'd light myself on fire before i took him as the 5th qb off the board.

Lewis: Until we win playoff game, critics will question Dalton

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com

December 27, 2013 6:10 pm ET

One of the biggest knocks on Bengals third-year quarterback Andy Dalton is that he struggles in big games. We've seen it again this season with less-than-stellar efforts in nationally televised get-togethers with the Dolphins and Steelers. But coach Marvin Lewis knows that Dalton can quiet his critics with a solid showing in the playoffs where he's currently 0-2.

"He's been a three-year starter so he's accomplished a lot of things in his career thus far," Lewis said during a Friday appearance on NFL Network's "NFL AM." "But until we win playoff games these questions you have ... those will always continue to be there. And that's all we can do is erase them for Andy and myself."

That said, Lewis doesn't have any reservations about Dalton, who has thrown for more than 4,000 yards and has 31 touchdowns against 16 interceptions.

"I keep saying this. He continues to be Andy," the coach said. "As long as everyone else continues to play at a high level around him he will do his thing week in and week out. We just have to keep pushing and prodding and making sure everybody else gets to the right spots and they're diligent with their responsibilities. If we continue to protect our quarterback and we continue to package our plays, run and pass together, that gives us good clean looks down the field all the time."

Dalton also has the full support of his teammates.

"Just keep doubting him, please," center Kyle Cook joked after Sunday's blowout win over the Vikings. "You should write something on there: 'Dalton played great, but ...' Don't give him too much credit. ...

"He's got a group of guys around him that tailor to his skill set," Cook continued. "You give him time and guys get open. He'll throw the ball and deliver it to you. When all 11 guys are playing as one, that benefits him."

And here's the thing: Dalton doesn't need a lot of time. When he's on -- and when Jay Gruden's dialing up the right plays -- Dalton gets rid of the ball faster than anybody in the league not named Peyton Manning. In fact, according to ProFootballFocus.com, when Dalton throws the ball in 2.5 seconds or less, he's completing 68.3 percent of his passes, has a QB rating of 96.5 and hasn't been sacked. But when he needs more than 2.5 seconds, Dalton's completion percentage drops to 47.1, his QB rating dips to 77.5, and he's been sacked 29 times.

"We're in a really good spot right now," Dalton said earlier this week. "We've just got to keep going. We've done a lot this year; a lot of the guys have gotten better. I think I've gotten better."

And he has. Next up: Winning a playoff game.

Perhaps he is being overlooked?

Surprising stat of the day: Andy Dalton has the 3rd most pass TD in his first 3 seasons in NFL HISTORY, trailing only Peyton and Marino!

He's not in the same stratosphere as those guys. I don't care what anyone says, what stats you come up with, I don't see it. As a fantasy qb yes he has value in advantageous starts but nfl wise he's proved nothing. He beats up on dogs and gets smoked in test games. He's Matt Schaub 2013.

No shame in that. Nobody thinks he's the next Manning or Marino. But the point is (I think) that the guy doesn't get credit for what he does. Gets smoked in test games? How do you make the playoffs if you can't win test games? If that were true, they'd be 6-10 every year.

Funny how people are praising Newton because he won a "test game" and he just made the playoffs for the first time this year. Dalton's three-for-three.

look at who cincy has beaten, who they have lost to, who smoked them, and why.The Bengals are loaded with talent, they're better than bad and mediocre teams, despite Dalton. Against the best? Nope. I think they can win a game this year since they will probably be at home, but once they have to go on the road, good night.

They have beaten

Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers

Patriots

Lions when the Lions were playing very well at Detroit

Chargers at San Diego

Colts

The have lost to

Bears week 1 at the Bears

Browns when they were on a 3 game winning streak and Hoyer was playing well at quarterback

Dolphins at Miami other good teams that lost at Miami or escaped.

Their other 2 losses were both in their divisions and good teams lose to bad or average teams in the division all the time. Broncos lost to Chargers

Patriots lost to the Jets, and Dolphins

Seattle lost to the 49ers, Cardinals and barely escaped the Rams

Green Bay tied the Vikings

Bears lost to the Vikings

Bad losses happen. Saints lost to the Jets, Eagles lost to the Vikings.

The odds are against Dalton becoming a Manning, Brady, Marino, Rodgers type quarterback but I am not going to completely rule it out he is getting better each year, but is there really anything wrong with him being Matt Ryan, or Phillip Rivers? He will be a good quarterback NFL wise and be helpful to fantasy owners as well.

QB1 - Manning(Big gap)

QB2 - Brees

(Big gap)

QB3 - 12

Dalton was on top of the runner-up pack, but not many points separated all of them. His huge week 16 outing saved him from finishing in the QB8 or 9 range. I don't see him as top 5 next year, but he has good WRs and he can be a low end fantasy starter, or an excellent QB by committee selection.

I think the bigger point is that people talk about Dalton like he's a below average QB who's barely starting quality in the NFL. That's laughable.

Those people aren't paying attention. He doesn't have the ability to make ALL the throws, but not a lot of QBs do. He's not a running threat, but not everyone is. Even his biggest supporters don't say he's one of the best QBs in the NFL. It's not shocking to say that he doesn't perform as well against the best defenses out there - that's why they're the best defenses and all but the best of the best normally struggle some against them.

What he is is a smart QB capable of making quick decisions and delivering accurate passes, especially on the short and intermediate routes. So he benefits from having strong talent around him... what QB wouldn't? There's a lot of value in that, both in the real NFL and in fantasy. He's made a lot of nice deep throws, but bad weather will impact him more than some others and his arm isn't as strong as some, either.

This was his second straight top 10 finish, and whether he's QB10 or QB3, there's not a lot of difference. He's a very legit QB1, and an outstanding QB1A or QB2. His perceived talent level will make him a bargain again next year.

I think today was rather symptomatic for Andy Dalton as a fantasy QB. He has 4 INTs and gets butchered by pundits on twitter that cracks jokes about him, but he still finishes the day as the 5th best fantasy QB this week. The Bengals offense has turned into a high volume offense and they frequently turn to the pass in the redzone for TDs. Dalton might not be clutch, he might not have the best deep ball, or be a top NFL QB, but he is a top fantasy QB and there are a lot of people that have not adjusted to that fact yet. Over the past 12 weeks he has been outscored by Peyton Manning by 2,4 pts per game (23,1 pts versus 20,7 pts). And this period even includes Dalton's bad stretch where he threw 8 INTs in 3 games. I think most people would be surprised by those numbers given that Manning is having the greatest season ever by a QB in terms of production and Dalton is widely portrayed as an up and down struggling QB who is the weakest link of his team and that his true self is showing up when he has 3+ INTs in a game.

The media likes to establish a narrative on certain players; an established truth that gets punctuated and highlighted every time that player's performance match the narrative even though the narrative has little or no truth to it. When there are players that are widely considered overpaid, overrated, or the media focuses on bad intangibles like lack of clutch play or lack of wins or playoff success, chances are that you are looking at a player that is underrated in terms of fantasy. Fantasy owners tend to overcorrect how they value players when negative narratives are established - overlooking what the statistics say. Smart owners capitalize on this and base their decisions on the actual numbers instead of getting caught up in Romo not being clutch, Lacy being too fat, Mike Wallace being overpaid, or whatever kind of angle the media is selling.

Andy Dalton is a QB 1 heading into next season. He throws a lot of picks but he gets enough yards and tds to make up for it. Also Baltimore and Pittsburgh Ds are no longer dominant, making those 4 games not horrible plays for him.

Does Jay Gruden move on this offseason?? If so, how does that impact Dalton's 2014 outlook?
I suppose he'll be talked about if enough coaches get fired. I'm not sure if he's as hot a commodity as he was after last season. The longer the staff stays together the better in my opinion, though I think if Gruden gets a HC job somewhere then they'll get an OC with a similar philosophy.

Looks like he was #3 in my leagues scoring as well. Really came on strong in the 2nd half of the year. If my league-mates are paying attention I might not be able to snake him in round 7 like I have in previous years.

Are Russ Wilson and Andrew luck average? If Wilson ticks up to 30 tds next year, he'll be in the vicinity. Luck has to throw 35 or so. Not impossible, but unlikely IMO. These are guys that are considered the best young franchise qbs, the future at the position, and they might not achieve Dalton's tds.

I don't get all the hate for him. Is he perfect? No, but Matt Ryan was drafted higher then this and their stats and careers seem to be pretty similar through the first 3 years. Yet I don't remember Ryan getting killed this bad.

both of those guys are much better than Dalton. Wilson has no wr's/te's whatsoever and still can move an offense and make terrific individual plays. Same with Luck.

Yesterday was another day that Dalton seemed to have a good game because he won but the way I see it he was home, his defense shutdown the Ravens and they were only in the game due to his 4 picks... he made some nice throws and a lot of bad ones...he managed the clock poorly and just doesn't impress me as a difference maker. He's got good offensive coaches, terrific offensive talent, good line and a tremendous defense. He's a cog in a good machine.
