Assuming he doesn't bomb the pre-draft process (combine, interviews, etc.) Ed Oliver outside of the top 10 will be a steal for someone. He sat out the last part of the season as he was injured and elected not to play in his bowl game to protect his health so the hype died down on him but when healthy he looked poised to be the next Aaron Donald. If he does go outside the top 10 it will likely be due to DT's just not being a premium valued position.

I think DT is highly valued. Not as much as Qb or edge but equal to corner.

I have learned he won't last outside the top 10 and he would be a steal at 18.

Is it safe to assume that, after another round of sacking, the mock will be completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute?

Don't think there's much of a chance of the Steelers taking Simmons with his off the field issues with their renewed focus on "character" guys. 
Mocked up the 1st round with some trades, based on draft rumors and who teams have had visits/interviews with. I don't feel great about the WRs or CBs, but I think they could get pushed down this year.

  1. Oakland (Trade w/ Cards) - Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma - I think AZ interest is a smoke screen to increase value.
  2. 49ers - Quinnen Williams, DL, Clemson - Rumors that they like him more than Bosa.
  3. Jets - Josh Allen, Edge, Kentucky - Rumors that they like him more than Bosa.
  4. Cards (Traded from Oakland) - Nick Bosa, Edge, Ohio St. - They still get their top player after trading down.
  5. Bucs - Devin White, ILB, LSU - They need a leader in the middle of their D and will take 1 of the Devins, assuming a top 3 defender doesn't fall.
  6. Giants - Rashan Gary, DE, Michigan - Gettleman is dumb and passes on QB, again. Rumor that Giants love Gary and really want someone who can get after the QB.
  7. Jags - Jawaan Taylor, OT, FL - Jags have needed O-line help for years, they finally get a solid line with a healthy Norwell and adding Taylor. Jags have lots of options here, but OT is a big need.
  8. Falcons (Trade w/ Lions) - Ed Oliver, DL, Houston - Recent rumor is that the Falcons LOVE Oliver and want to swap with the Lions to grab him ahead of the Bills.
  9. Washington (Trade w/ Bills) - Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio St - The recent rumor is that the Skins really like Haskins, and a cheap QB would go a long way to helping them get out of cap hell in the next 2-3 years with the Alex Smith contract. Skins outbid some other teams thinking about moving up.
  10. Broncos - Drew Lock, QB, Missouri - Elway takes his guy to sit behind Flacco for a year. I'm not very confident about this pick, mainly because I think Elway is in Win-Now mode, but I don't think they view Flacco as a long term answer at QB in Denver. Does Elway care greatly about the long term vision if he might leave after this season?
  11. Bengals - Devin Bush, ILB, Michigan - They cut Burfict and have a gaping hole in the middle of their defense that they fill with a talented sideline to sideline backer. Steelers fans shake their fists.
  12. Packers - Noah Fant, TE, Iowa - The first real surprise in the 1st round. Fant goes high to a team that hasn't traditionally had a strong TE presence. The packers have shown a lot of interest in some pass rushers, but I think they wait until their pick at 30 to address that, and grab a guy who they've met with several times this offseason.
  13. Miami - Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson - Recent rumor is that if Miami misses out on QB, they'll grab Ferrell. Flores is in no hurry in south beach, and he'll build his team from the defense up.
  14. Lions (Traded from Falcons) - TJ Hockenson, TE, Iowa - Patricia wants to be NE 2.0 and tries to find his very own Gronk to pair with Stafford. Hockenson also offers a lot in terms of blocking and can keep the QB upright and help in the run game. 
  15. Bills (Traded from Skins) - Montez Sweat, Edge, Miss. St. - The Bills have shown interest this offseason, and while I think they have big needs at OL and WR, I think they build the defense further and try and add some pressure to combat TB.
  16. Carolina - Brian Burns, Edge, FL St. - Carolina has met with him several times and they have a need at edge rusher, there is a drop off after Burns.
  17. Giants - Daniel Jones, QB, Duke - Gettleman gets his guy. His very mediocre, reach of a QB. He doesn't bother to investigate trading down.
  18. Ravens (Traded w/ Vikings) - DK Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss - First WR off the board, and the Ravens leap frog the Titans, Steelers, and Seahawks who also have need at the WR position. Lamar Jackson needs a player that can get separation, and has a chance to take a short pass to the house. Timing and crisp route running aren't a necessity for the Ravens abysmal passing offense, they mainly need a deep threat who can keep DBs honest.
  19. Titans - Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson - All of the Titans big wigs were at Clemson for the pro day and were personally involved in putting Wilkins through his paces. If he lasts this long, I expect the Titans to have heavy interest.
  20. Steelers - AJ Brown, WR, Ole Miss - This was hard as hell. The Steelers often take their first round draft pick out to dinner at some point before the draft. The only player I've heard that they did that with so far is Chase Winovich and this is too early for him. They met with Brown several times already during the predraft process, and have a need at WR. Brown is similar in play style to Juju, but I think that compatibility and ability to play inside or outside is a benefit, not a reason for disqualification. I'd be a bit surprised if this is the pick, but they haven't met with many CBs, OLBs, or ILBs that are available here, and Greedy Williams is dropping down boards fast.
  21. Seahawks - Andre Dillard, OT, Washington St. - Seattle gets a talented OL that helps bolster their rushing and passing attack. They could go DB or WR here, but they seem to like Dillard and I think he's a 1st round talent.
  22. Vikings (Traded from Ravens) - Cody Ford, OG, Oklahoma - Vikings add a strong piece to their O-line that will help keep Cook on track. They've met several times with Ford and showed lots of interest.
  23. Texans - Jonah Williams, OT/OG, Alabama - I don't know that he lasts this long, but the Texans have shown lots of interest and have a need for an upgrade on their line. 
  24. Raiders - Terry McLaurin, WR, Ohio St. - I think this is too early, but the Raiders have shown considerable interest, and Gruden is known to take whatever player he wants, regardless of whether he could take them later. Also, McLaurin has been getting 1st round buzz recently. I think this is the biggest reach, but possible. 
  25. Eagles - Jeffrey Simmons, DL, Miss. St. - They've done their due diligence on him, and took him out to dinner before his pro day. A lot of mocks have Josh Jacobs, but I'm just not convinced he's worth a 1st. 
  26. Colts - Darnell Savage, S, Maryland - Savage keeps moving higher and higher the closer we get to the draft. The Colts have met with him multiple times and he is a high character player, in addition to being very talented. 
  27. Cardinals (Traded from Raiders) - N'Keal Harry, WR, AZ St. - The Cardinals are running with a very bare WR corps right now and need to add bodies. At the end of the 1st they add one of the best, and a local kid who they've been able to keep an eye on for years. Harry learns from Fitz for 1 year and then thrives in the Kingsbury offense for years to come. 
  28. Chargers - Kaleb McGary, OT, Washington - Chargers have met with McGary recently and have a need at OT that he would fill nicely.
  29. Chiefs - Byron Murphy, CB, Washington - First CB off the board goes to a team that was terrible in pass coverage last year. The chiefs will have needs at pass rusher, but add their top DB to keep QBs honest.
  30. Packers - Jachai Polite, Edge, Florida - Recent rumors say that the Packers are enamored with Polite and he's fallen to the end of the first due to poor testing. 
  31. Rams - Johnathan Abram, S, Miss. St. - A highly rated Safety that has met with many teams around the league, he fills a need for the Rams and they've met with him several times.
  32. Patriots - Irv Smith Jr, TE, Bama - This just seems like it won't happen because every fantasy player wants them to take a new TE. I'd be surprised if the Pats stay at 32, either moving up or down. If they stand pat, I think they take Irv.

@steelers1080 I enjoyed your take. puzzled by Baltimore trading up... they have no picks to trade unless its 2020, and Metcalfs strengths are Jacksons weaknesses.

Andy may be far off too as the ravens GM has said he wants "big tough wrs," and marquis brown is the exact opposite of that (may indicate they like Metcalf as you've predicted... personally I think Butler or Harry go there)

I'm not sure of Baltimore draft capital this year, and they will probably stand pat or trade back, as is their custom, but I had them leaping up here to get a WR I think is overrated. I don't think they're particularly good at evaluating wide receivers (Perriman anyone?) and I think they could take DK purely because he showed good metrics, even though he's not well rounded. He's big and strong, and I think that they'll view him as an asset in the run game even if he isn't a great blocker right now. 

I think their best pick in the 1st would be Harry. He's almost purely a YAC guy and was used a ton in the screen game, something that Jackson could handle. He's also very physical and could bully around some CBs in the league to set downfield blocks in the run game.

Always appreciate the mocks. Can't really comment on my favorite team, since they don't have any picks in rounds 1-2, not complaining.

I will say, I think this would be a best case scenario for the Eagles. Greedy, Thornhill, and Winovich could all be starters for them. The Packers with Jonah, Hollywood, and Savage would also be much improved. The Raiders getting the best DT, OG, RB and an interesting Edge prospect would likely be something their fans would get behind.

For not having 1st rounders, Cleveland(Baker) Dallas(Rapp) and New Orleans(Oruwariye) would be thrilled to get guys they may have targeted in round 1.

I would say Lock and Abram would be a worst case scenario for Denver fans, but questionable moves have been their MO the last couple years.

 
Sadly I think the draft might play out this way for the Steelers. I'd hope that if Bush falls to pick 15+, they try to make a move for him, but I'm not feeling great about that. I don't really trust the Steelers to take the best CB after years of poor picks, and Wilson is ok, but it seems like he'll be a big liability in coverage. I think the Steelers would take Winovich over Wilson and try and get 2 ILBs later in the draft, but that's just my guess based on flimsy rumors. 

If the Skins trade for Rosen, I could definitely see them trading down to try and recoup their lost picks.

Bad year for the Steelers to need LBs. They'd probably put Barron in coverage on this scenario. Winovich would be a good pick for them.

I assumed the Skins trade for Rosen here but then neglected to give the 2nd I expect them to pay to Arizona. Even then, a combo of Butler/JJAW with Kirk would be kind of exciting in Az.

I really don't understand why many mocks have the Eagles taking a CB in round 1.  I could be wrong but I'm 90% confident that won't happen.  I'd even be surprised if we took a CB with the first 3 picks.  It's less of a need than multiple other positions.

Because many times you run into assessments citing it as a need. Like this...

Hidden Need: Cornerback 
Starters Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby will be free agents in 2020. Neither is worth breaking the bank for, so re-signing them will come down to a matter of price. Rasul Douglas has played well at times but looks more like a long-term backup than future starter. Having cheap young depth at outside corner gives Philly leverage in future negotiations with Mills and Darby, if not a more appealing player to turn to altogether. The Eagles predominantly play zone coverage, but many of their zones have man-to-man duties for corners outside.

Yes I've seen mocks and other write ups saying it's a need but I really don't see it.  We can re-sign those guys if need be, and we also have a lot of young cheap guys that you didn't mention, that finally gelled and played pretty well together at the end of the season.  The CB group was a very different group at the end of the year than it was at the beginning.  Also our needs at DL and OL far outweigh those at CB.  Especially for a first rounder.

If a CB takes a big slide to us at 25 then sure, but I don't get all the mocks putting CB in round 1 and would be quite surprised.

It could be similar in the 1st but I saw a remarkable graphic of the Raiders use of rookie RBs over the past half decade and they were last.

I checked their drafting history and they have only taken 4 RBs in the past decade and none above the 4th round.  

Mike Mayock could change that metric but I found that stat interesting.

If a CB takes a big slide to us at 25 then sure, but I don't get all the mocks putting CB in round 1 and would be quite surprised.

Agree that Devon Bush not looking likely in the 1st but you really do need to address CB.  Artie Burns hasn't met expectations and Joe Haden is in the last year of his contract so corner might rate higher than LBer especially when Barron says he is not coming off the field which hints he's going to take over the hybrid LB/bot SS role for Terrell Edmunds or at least he thinks he is.

I like Chase a lot and am not sure he makes it to Pittsburgh's pick in the 2nd.

I like Jalen Mills but I wouldn't want him to be a starter. I would say a higher quality corner would improve the defense 

You are likely correct as far as the defensive philosophy of Jim Schwarz that emphasizes pass rush and more zone coverage. 

This draft is weak at corner, so teams maybe should prioritize getting the best ones before they are gone.

I think Mills can be a low end starter.  Not every starter in the league is going to be above average, and I agree he is definitely below average but that's okay.  Rookie CB's also rarely make a huge impact, and we saw this year that Schwartz' DB's usually need more time together than actual raw talent to succeed.

With a weak CB draft, I don't see a top 20 pick slipping to 25 which I think is the only way we would take one.  DL and OL are FAR bigger needs for us right now and are usually the direction we go with our first rounders.

It sounded like at least 3 other posters were interested in doing that. But maybe you are not?

I would LOVE for that trend to continue and the Raiders spend their 2nd rounder on D as well. All D all the time, and let Gruden roll out his crusty vets on offense and try to re-live the glory days of Gannon/Rice/Brown with Carr/Brown/um...you know what I mean.

I would like to draft for one or two teams. Doesn't need to be the Vikings either. I would actually like to see another Vikings fan take a crack at that if they are willing.
