Andy Reid Confirms Kolb as the starter (1 Viewer)

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Eagles coach Andy Reid says Kevin Kolb(notes) will be the starting quarterback at Jacksonville on Sunday, despite a pair of impressive performances by fill-in Michael Vick(notes).

Kolb missed the second half of a season-opening loss to Green Bay and Sunday’s win over Detroit because of a concussion. Kolb has been cleared to practice, so Reid says he’ll start unless something happens during the week.

Vick threw for 175 yards and one touchdown and ran for 103 in the 27-20 loss to the Packers. He had 284 yards passing and two TDs in a 35-32 win over the Lions.

Kolb started two games in his first three seasons before he became the team’s No. 1 quarterback after Donovan McNabb(notes) was traded to Washington. Kolb struggled in the first half against Green Bay.

his owner dropped him for vick, who did put up a big game for him, but i scooped him up swiftly after he hit the WW. definition of a steal =)

I wouldn't get too excited just yet. Vick will be the starting QB by years end, if not in Philly somewhere else. He is just too dangerous not to use. I firmly believe the Eagles would have lost that game if Kolb was QB. There is so much more for a team to prepare for when they are facing Vick compared to a pocket passer.

Reid has said this all along. Despite what some on here like to think, it's not anyone's decision but Reid's. I bought low on Kolb and hope others do the same.
I drafted Kolb and planned on playing matchups with him and Favre. Also picked up Vick last week and started him yesterday. The problem for Kolb this year is that he will be pulled for Vick throughout games and it will limit his FF production, some weeks severely. I don't feel comfortable starting a QB who is losing snaps, many of which I predict will be in the red zone.Add on that Kolb is a young QB who has struggled through pre-season and in his limited action in week 1 and I don't really think he is an attractive option right now.Ideal scenario would be for Vick to be named the full time starter but obviously that's not happening any time soon. Hate to say it but for the sake of my FF team I am rooting for Kolb to fail, BIG time.

I figured Vick would be starting by week 7. Kolb is not an NFL QB and with turmoil among the players Reid will have to relent after the next 2 miserable Kolb starts.

Way too premature to say that, just as it was too premature to say that he is the next coming of Donavan McNabb.Clearly, Reid saw something in Kolb beyond his two good starts last year, so I'd say the jury is still out. He's got the playmakers around him to be successful, now it's up to him.

I've got no horse in this race, but the bold statement is based on what? Kolb certainly looked the part while filling in for McNabb last year and presumably Reid and the rest of the Eagles brass know a bit more about NFL QB's and player development than a bunch of FF nerds like us. So if we follow that presumption and figure that Reid traded McNabb and handed the reins to Kolb that he, in fact, would be an NFL QB. Personally, I'd like to see him in a couple more games without a hyperactive D like the Packers all over him before I write the guy off.

Do you think they would trade Vick before the end of the season? I don't. He'll probably start for another team next year though. And the Eagles do plan to use him. They were using him even before Kolb was injured.

When Kolb played in week one, it seemed like the game was too fast for him. His two starts last year, it didn't seem that way; he showed a lot of promise. The problem is, he hasn't had much playing time so it's hard to evaluate Kolb. The speed of the game is much faster in a game than practice. I think the reason he is starting is because he plays well in practice and Reid is hoping that translates to games. Either way, I applaud Reid for sticking to his guns on this one. The Eagles need to give Kolb the chance to prove or disprove himself.

Kudos though to the Eagles for getting Vick when they did. They caught some heat, but were in a spot where they could bury him for a year, literally let him get his legs back and now have the luxury of extending him if Kolb does not pan out (I would think Vick (or his people) would be wise enough to take a decent offer from the Eagles).
