Steubenville High School students Trent Mays and Ma'Lik Richmond were sentence to at least a year in juvenile jail, capping a case that came to light via a barrage of morning-after text messages, social media posts and online photos and video. Mays was sentenced to an additional year in jail on a charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, to be served after his rape sentence is completed
http://news.yahoo.com/ohio-teens-guilty-rape-face-plus-jail-145306028--spt.htmlThe length of their sentence beyond the minimum one year will be determined by juvenile authorities; they can be held until they're 21.

What? It's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. We all know what happens at these parties and she had to come up with an excuse once the pictures starting making the rounds.

It's a shame these kids aren't going to a maximum security adult facility where they would be raped every day for 20 years. It's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. I'm fairly certain Anonymous and their ilk will make life difficult for these guys for years to come. They'd have been better off in prison for a few years, if not for the sole purpose of appeasing everyone and letting this drop for good. It's a shame these kids aren't going to a maximum security adult facility where they would be raped every day for 20 years. It's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. Easily an entry for the worst post of the year....It's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. We all know what happens at these parties and she had to come up with an excuse once the pictures starting making the rounds.

You can't be seriousIt's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. We all know what happens at these parties and she had to come up with an excuse once the pictures starting making the rounds.
That is a sick and disgusting thing to say Bob!It's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. We all know what happens at these parties and she had to come up with an excuse once the pictures starting making the rounds.
liI will say this, and keep in mind that this in no way excuses the actions of the boys involved. People should always take steps to protect themselves. Much like how you and I wouldn't go walking though the bad part of town flashing a big wad of cash, neither should high school girls be getting so wasted that they pass out in front of a bunch of horny high school boys. Maybe you and I get lucky and don't mugged. Maybe a girl who passes out from drinking too much doesn't have anything bad happen to her. Or maybe you and I do get mugged and she does get raped, but we can identify the person and put them away. Isn't it still better not to be in that situation to begin with? Not saying it's her fault, but if she was smart, she could've prevented it from happening. I see a lot of comments on the news websites about how great this is to teach boys everywhere a lesson. It should also be teaching girls everywhere a lesson.I'm not targeting you. I'm asking a question. It's open for Sacramento Bob to answer, too, if that's better.I've actually never been drunk. And none of this is really relevant to Bob's original statement, which is that the girl had to come up with a story once the pictures started making the rounds to avoid being called a slut at school. And that it was a shame that the boys now have a record.liI will say this, and keep in mind that this in no way excuses the actions of the boys involved. No where did I say that. Are you a parent? Do you teach your kids things to keep them safe? (i.e. don't accept a ride from that stranger with candy.) Also parents of teenage boys need to teach them to respect others. The boys where the ones who made the decision to take it to a whole new level. No where did I say that. Are you a parent? How do you know her parents didn't have that talk? She was at a party with FRIENDS. Who expects to get raped at a party with friends, regardless of whether she drank? I don't think anyone has said that deserve to be a victim. Rather that people should try to use good judgement in the first place. Not sure why that's ruffled so many feathers here.Showing poor judgment does not mean a person "deserves" to be a victim of a crime more than a person that shows good judgement. In fact, those we surround ourselves with have an ethical duty to help those that can not help themselves. It's no different than calling a cab for someone who had too much at the bar. The worst part about this whole case to me is that no one at the parties thought "something wrong is going on." None of them had sisters or nieces or friends to think "I may be drunk, and they may be drunk, but this is not cool..."
You're suggesting that she shares some culpability. Cause, you know, in your world if she wasn't there or didn't drink it wouldn't have happened. Seems pretty simple. This is from Rayderr:Some of you people need to calm down a little and actually listen to what Rayderr is saying instead of responding to what you're imagining that he's saying. Sheesh. As a father of a middle-school girl, I'm definitely going to try to teach her to watch out for herself and not always rely on the kindness and good graces of others. That shouldn't be even remotely controversial.
That's his quote manip of a previous post. See post 211. He can try to backtrack and qualify his quote manip all he wants, but he clearly holds the girl partially responsible for what happened to her."If she didn't want to get violated, then she shouldn't have drank so much that she passed out. She knew the risks."

Right. And as I already asked, how do we know that didn't happen here? You do realize that kids, especially teens, often times ignore advice from their parents. let me ask you this. If she gets raped after having passed out at a party with friends, are you going to say "Well I told you not to get that drunk. You knew the risks."?
So, I was fixing the translation of Bob's statement.Fixed. (tho I still believe they were in the wrong.)Translation: "If she didn't want to get violated, then she shouldn't have gone to the partydrank so much that she passed out. She knew the risks."What? It's a shame these kids now have a record because some girl is afraid to be called a slut in school. We all know what happens at these parties and she had to come up with an excuse once the pictures starting making the rounds.
Do you think Joe Summer is also saying it's her fault for going to the party? At this point, I honestly don't know if you're fishing or just a freaking moron.Yeah, that's what you were doing.Let's put it back in context here. Again, I'd like to point out that the initial translation and your fixed translation aren't anywhere close to what Bob's statement said.Let's put it back in context here. This is from Rayderr:Some of you people need to calm down a little and actually listen to what Rayderr is saying instead of responding to what you're imagining that he's saying. Take that up with Joe Summer then.Again, I'd like to point out that the initial translation and your fixed translation aren't anywhere close to what Bob's statement said.Let's put it back in context here. This is from Rayderr:Some of you people need to calm down a little and actually listen to what Rayderr is saying instead of responding to what you're imagining that he's saying. You claim to have been "fixing" The translation of Bob's statement, not making your own statement. I can buy that. But in what way were you fixing the translation of Bob's statement?Edit: I do find your knee-jerk defensiveness somewhat interesting, though, as I'm on your side in terms of thinking that you're being unfairly bashed and lumped in with Bob's post. The sentiment in that post was far more offensive (and quite different) than your fixed translation of the post.Take that up with Joe Summer then.Again, I'd like to point out that the initial translation and your fixed translation aren't anywhere close to what Bob's statement said.Let's put it back in context here. This is from Rayderr:Some of you people need to calm down a little and actually listen to what Rayderr is saying instead of responding to what you're imagining that he's saying.
