Q:You look like you got bigger.

A:Yeah, I put a little more muscle on. Right now I'm around 250. Me and coach talked about it; I'm gonna do some fullback stuff this year, too. I'm trying to bulk up a little more so I can handle both. I really wanna be versatile, you know. That's what I'm definitely trying to do.
In light of article, all owners of Dixon in dynasty leagues should be worried. Based on Jim Harbaugh's coaching at Stanford, he favors a power rushing with a starting RB getting a heavy dose to ensure play actions. However, I'm worried about Dixon's huge weight gain and new coaching regime' possible plan of using Dixon as FB.

Does he really talk like that?

He was 233 at the combine, so I don't think 250 is too out of control. Especially if he is focused on gaining muscle and not just getting fat

What weight did Dixon play at last year? I can definitely see Dixon taking more goal line/short yardage plays from Gore this year in order to keep Frank fresh and injury free.

That's what Coach Harbaugh told me from day one when he came in and finally met me. He was like, he's gonna rely on me more this year, point blank. So he was like, "Get ready. When we get back and we get together, I'm gonna need you to be more on your game because we're going to rely on you more." Ever since that day, I've been ready and waiting.

I am a dynasty Dixon owner, and I sure ain't excited about the letters FB after his name.
Well, in light of Gore still playing...maybe FB means he'll get on the field and see more action. Is Westy still playing for the 49ers? What other RB's do they have?

I'm not that worried here, probably just a case of a coach wanting his two best rushers on the field at the same time and knowing Gore needs less carries to last. Plus it sounds like solid muscle too. It went from having me a little worried in the first quote, to actually getting excited about his '11 outlook from this quote when I remembered what he was able to do at that 235 weight. I think he'll have more to offer than being a Greg Jones though. Bottom line is beyond all that weight in either direction is some good RB talent if they ever need it. He looked good. Powerful, high motor, agile feet for a big man, able to catch screens. It sounds like he's going to be on the field a lot more that's all. Either RB or FB/GL can't hurt as it's increased chances to get on the field. I could see a 10+ TD GL back if he really plays FB at 250, or he works his way into Michael Turner, Tolbert or McLain types in a couple years. 250 would slow him down considerably though I would think.

Yeah, Anthony really talks like that. He was raised in the country. I overheard a couple of people making fun of the guy at media day because of how he talks, but the sad thing is that if they bothered to listen to what he said and not how he said it they would have gotten some wisdom about how the position is played. However, that's what happens when educated people don't know the difference between being educated and smart.

So if he moves to FB, then the only other 'official' RB on the team is Xavier Omon? Is he ready to really get on the field? I mean, if he couldn't stick with BUF or SEA, can he contribute?

(I know, I know, that'd be a really deep pickup)

He can play both fullback and hback. if gore goes down or needs a break they can just move him to half back.

They'll draft another RB, but Omon has talent - he had trouble believing in himself and consistently training after his initial travels from team to team. He came from a rough situation and was one of those guys that needed a little more of a support system than he probably could ever hope to get with an NFL team as a small school prospect. If he shows up in shape and confident, he could really surprise. Big if though.

This probably has to do with them looking to get rid Moran Norris who will turn 33 this year and offers zero versatility.

Thanks for the feedback on Omon!

Omon has some potential but SF needs to find a true feature back to be ready to take over when Gore breaks down, which could be soon.

No team is gonna bank on a Dixon/Omon backfield and be satisfied with it. that would be one of the worst backfields in the NFL. SF will possibly take a RB pretty early in the draft to address the need as it's a pretty big one with Gore coming off a major hip injury.

Is there a history of older RB's returning from major hip injuries and performing at a high level?

I don't think we know enough about Dixon and Omon to say that. There have been a fair number of RBs who were buried on depth charts, late round picks, or bounced around the league, then performed when they got the chance and made their team feel secure at the position.

He may be 250 now but once he gets to camp and starts working that weight should come down a little. I think 240 would be ok for him as long as we're talking muscle and not fat. I think playing some FB is just gonna mean more opps for him and help keep Gore healthy. Pretty sure this would spell the end of Moran Norris.

49ers will definitely look to draft a RB next week. It won't be until the 3rd round at the earliest unless someone like LeShoure or Ryan Williams falls to them in the 2nd which is doubtful. There will be plenty of backs to choose from ,it's just finding the right one for the Niners. maybe a Daniel Thomas or Shane vereen might interest them.
