(11-21) 10:53 PST SAN MATEO -- San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Antonio Bryant was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of drunken driving, resisting arrest and speeding after he was pulled over for driving more than 100 mph on Highway 101 and then became "belligerent," police said.

A San Mateo City police officer saw Bryant, 25, in Redwood City just before midnight Sunday driving northbound on the freeway at speeds "well over 100 mph," said Capt. Kevin Raffaelli. Bryant exited the freeway at Kehoe Avenue in San Mateo and stopped on a side street, Raffaelli said.

"He was initially contacted for reckless driving and excessive speed ... but officers noticed signs that he was under the influence and tried to get him to cooperate," Raffaelli said. "He was extremely uncooperative and belligerent to officers."

Based on "objective signs" that he was intoxicated, the officers attempted to arrest Bryant for driving under the influence, he said. But the wide receiver "became combative," Raffaelli said, and refused to get into the police car.

"He ultimately had to be restrained and placed in the car ... He was pretty verbally abusive and derogatory," Raffaelli said, adding that the entire exchange was captured on audiotape.

The police officer was at Highway 101 at Whipple Avenue in Redwood City when he first spotted Bryant, he said. The officer attempted to catch up to Bryant's car, Raffaelli said, but was unable to. The officer radioed another patrol car who identified Bryant's vehicle and put on his emergency lights just before Kehoe Avenue, about seven miles north of Whipple Avenue, Raffaelli said.

Ultimately, eight officers and two sergeants responded to the scene of the arrest, Raffaelli said.

Bryant was booked into San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City at 2:50 a.m. Monday and was released four hours later, according to jail officials. Bail was set at $5,000, but Bryant was released on his own recognizance.

The San Mateo County District Attorney's office has not made a decision about what charges, if any, to file against Bryant. He will be arraigned on Dec. 28 at 9 a.m.

A team spokesman for the 49ers could not immediately be reached for comment.

always seems like when these guys get in trouble it is the PM immediately following their game....

It always puzzles me why these guys don`t rent a limo when they go out after the games.

When my friends and I go to Lion or RedWing games and know it is going to be a big night, we always arrange for transportation.

I was already considering picking up Arnaz Battle. Should he get a bump in production if Bryant is out? I guess he probably won't miss any games though, since his hearing will be postponed or something like that.

Considering that NO CHARGES have even been filed against him, I'd be pretty surprised if the team or the NFL suspends him.Union would on them like white on rice if they tried to.

They should have tased him.

:wall: :wall: :wall: Anyone know if Vernon Davis played on Sunday?
I read on MFL(Rotoworld news?) that Davis was in on like 5 snaps but had no targets.I've been holding Bryant hoping his production gets better when Davis returns(and plays signifigant time). Should find out soon, but I may drop him for one of the WR 'flavors of the week'...

If he was drunk, belligerent, and driving 100+ MPH, you'd better believe there will be charges filed. But it might take a while to work out.

Yes...IF...

Wow, I can't believe he's only 25. It seems like he's been bouncing around from team to team for a long time.

Considering how reliable his hands have been at catching passes lately, the erratic driving is no surprise.

Only 100mph in a Lamborghini? Must not have been able to get out of 3rd gear.

Nevermind, "well over 100mph." That's more like it.

That is what struck me odd, if he was speeding over 100 mph you would think he would be charged with #1 reckless driving and if he had to be restrained #2 resisting arrest. The DUI would have to be proven through blood or breath test. But why would they have to wait on the other charges? huh?

I'm sure they just want to make sure that they have the charges correct. They are going to formally charge him when he is arraigned, so they have no reason to rush. I can't believe these NFL players keep screwing up like this, just get a cab.

After Del Rio suspended his player after the DUI, Nolan might follow suit.

How come they haven't reported a BAC?

It's not like it was sent to the lab and they are still awaiting its return.

He should have been given a blood test, and that would be sent to a lab. In some states, breathalyzers will not hold up in court.

I am sober now biznatches :banned: :banned: :banned:

Did he drive home?

Antonio Bryant is a ####up. As a fantasy prospect and as a player. Hes screwing up his chances for this season and next, with the league possibly suspending him into next year. Either way he hasnt been a great fantasy reciever, doing pretty much nothing since week 2. He isnt being suspended by the team, but is he still worth owning in a 16 team deep league? It seems Arnez Battle is the reciever to get for SF....
