Do you think Bryant will come back from two lackluster weeks coming forth?
I've seen that, I believe every week this season. The Niners really needs to stop with the penalties, but I'm sure there are other teams that wish they do the same. There's a lot of talk about him in the "Plays that were called back" threads that are pinned each week, so he's getting his looks at least.
I have been waiting patiently for Bryant to duplicate Week 2.I'd like to see him get more catches, this 3-4 grabs/game is not enough for consistent stats. SF needs to use him more on short routes, mixed in w/ the deep routes.I think his 05' stats (1000 yards, 5TD) are his floor for this year. I look for around 1200 & 8-9 TDs. His reception totals will likely need to rise to hit that.
He also had a 50+ yarder called back in the Chiefs game for a touchdown...he stepped out of bounds!he has had alot of big plays called back due to penalties.i know in the eagles game he had a 49yd catch called back. Needed those 4pts too :(
Not quite. He stepped out of bounds after 22 yards and that was the ruling.I mean, heck, if we're going to credit every receiver for catches and scores they don't actually make, we could have a fun time.He also had a 50+ yarder called back in the Chiefs game for a touchdown...he stepped out of bounds!
On the surface it would appear that crediting a WR for TD's that were called back is silly, but I think it's useful to know that Bryant is, at the very least, being invovled in the offense.I mean, heck, if we're going to credit every receiver for catches and scores they don't actually make, we could have a fun time.He also had a 50+ yarder called back in the Chiefs game for a touchdown...he stepped out of bounds!
Especially since most of us non-homers aren't getting to see what's really happening on the field. The Niners aren't exactly the greatest for national exposure ATM. And you can't get all your info from the stat sheet.
He'll have a good week, but don't expect too much. The Raiders have defended the pass really well this season. It's the run where they can't stop anyone.I'm expecting him to have a strong game vs Oakland this weekend. Am I wrong in thinking this?
I would agree with this IF he had a touchdown called back. But he didn't.On the surface it would appear that crediting a WR for TD's that were called back is silly, but I think it's useful to know that Bryant is, at the very least, being invovled in the offense.
Philip Rivers, Steve McNair, and Charlie Frye. Eric Parker,He'll have a good week, but don't expect too much. The Raiders have defended the pass really well this season. I agree with you, they haven't really been tested. But I've watched every game so far this year, and I can tell you their pass rush is pretty good (Burgess, Howard and Sapp). Combine that with the fact that they have a very young secondary full of first round draft picks (Huff, Washington and Asomugha). The Raider pass D is pretty good.Philip Rivers, Steve McNair, and Charlie Frye. Eric Parker,He'll have a good week, but don't expect too much. The first two games, they were in a hole so quick, teams just ran on them. The Ravens were up 16-3 before the half which is like a 40 pt Rams lead, San Diego, was just sick, and it was Rivers first game (not that he's done much since), and Cleveland... well they threw for 12 first downs, across 10 receivers, for 3 passing TDs.
Not sayin the Niners will, but Oakland's secondary and pass D has hhhhhhhardly been test.
Vernon is a great blocker, I know that both Gore and Smith are missing him.Didn't Vernon Davis go down week 2? If yes, then perhaps the bad performances from the past 2 weeks are somewhat of result of more coverage rolling his way. I'm not sure this is the case as I have not seen any 49ers games. Just food for thought.
I didn't say thatFrom the horses mouth:
"I've watched every niners game this year. They have at least 2-3 deep balls to Bryant every game. Bryant will produce a bit sporadically"
Edited for accuracy.I would agree with this IF he had a touchdown called back. But he didn't.On the surface it would appear that crediting a WR for big plays that were called back is silly, but I think it's useful to know that Bryant is, at the very least, being invovled in the offense.

Actually, he did have a TD called back, though it wasn't from the KC game;3-12-SF48 (11:44) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass deep right to A.Bryant for 52 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on SF-K.Harris, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SF 48 - No Play.I would agree with this IF he had a touchdown called back. But he didn't.On the surface it would appear that crediting a WR for TD's that were called back is silly, but I think it's useful to know that Bryant is, at the very least, being invovled in the offense.

Not sure how much of a difference this makes, but Washington is out this weekend.I've watched every game so far this year, and I can tell you their pass rush is pretty good (Burgess, Howard and Sapp). 2003Moss averaged 100+ yards a game and a TD a gameYou knew he had to come back down to Earth after those first two weeks. No one averages 100+ yards per game over the course of a full season.
Bryant has always been a feast-or-famine type, and I suspect that trend will continue. Alex Smith has improved quite a bit since last season, but the 49ers still aren't a very good team. Eric Johnson and Arnaz Battle don't scare anyone, meaning Bryant is going to receive a lot of attention from defenses.
That doesn't mean he won't have value. He's the best option in the passing attack and he should end up with the best season totals of his career. My guess is that we can expect something in the 1,050-1,150 yards range with 5-7 TDs.
Yea, it happens from time to time. Boldin and Owens both did it last year. My point was that only the very elite WRs in the league post those kind of numbers consistently. Although Bryant was clearly underrated going into the season, it would not have been realistic to expect him to continue putting up 100+ yard games each week. I'd expect his yards/week to eventually level off to somewhere around 65-75. That range seems to fit his talent/supporting cast/opportunity combination.2003Moss averaged 100+ yards a game and a TD a gameYou knew he had to come back down to Earth after those first two weeks. Holt averaged 100+ yards a game
Rice did it in 1995
Could be more. I've had WAY too many Knob Creek rocks tonight to look it up.
And anybody who put up 1600+ yards (or 1400+ before the increase in games played) averaged over 100+ a game
I remember something like that happening a few weeks ago and they ended up connecting on a deep ball later in the game. Who knows.I thought I heard a radio report the other day that had Nolan telling him to stop showing up Smith by gesturing on the field when Smith doesn't throw to his liking. Did anyone else hear/see this report? If it's true, is he going to hold it together all year long?
