Antonio Callaway - WR Dolphins now (1 Viewer)

He is straight trash.  Can’t believe I dropped Kirk to grab him today.   He’s a huge tease BC of the opportunity in front of him, his raw athleticism, his qb, and his schedule.  But the dude can’t catch.  Pretty important trait for a wr.  To the ww he goes.
Real close to dumping this bum.

Couldn’t have said it better.

Droppable in all leagues.

He's dead to me. Maybe we'll try again next year as a sleeper. I could care less if he goes off for 7/120/2TD next week.

He's not there yet.

I think I'm going to try and deal him in a package this week. He's got the talent and target share that people will want him but I think I want off.

5 Things to care/Don't care about

Antonio Callaway’s volume

Once again, the signals were here for the enigmatic rookie receiver. Antonio Callaway drew 10 targets and saw a team-high 130 air yards. He piddled his way to just two catches for nine yards against a secondary that was allowing plenty of passing production coming into Week 6. The rookie reminded us why the Browns were set on reducing his playing time before Rashard Higgins sustained a knee injury and Derrick Willies went on IR. Drops and miscues have been a consistent theme of his rookie campaign. Usually, we should blindly follow volume in fantasy football like mindless hogs to the troth. Callaway’s rookie season is turning out to be an outlier to that rule.

He has speed and targets.  The talent is debatable at this point.  NFL wrs are paid to run fast and catch the damn ball.

I hope as a fan he gets it together.   And soon.

Had to drop him in a short bench league to cover brees bye, but tb is a good matchup and may grab him to cover ab and Adams this weekend.

Im sure Dorsey is looking for wrs even after the bal guy.

Lastly, bakers ankle changed things and the game.  Yea he gutted it out, but he was obviously not right.

POSITIVES

—Athletic tools are among the best in the class (4.41 40).

—Played a Percy Harvin role as a runner, receiver and returner.

—Graceful, explosive athlete who makes it look easy cutting and sprinting down the field.

—Has legit speed and will run away from coverage; hits his second gear and is gone.

—Can beat jams with quick feet at the line of scrimmage.

—Makes playing receiver look easy.

Attacks the ball and is an aggressive competitor. When... where?

Weaknesses

Loves to compete on the grass but not as enthusiastic in weight room or film room

Hands are a little inconsistent - MAJOR understatement

hate to drop the guy and I have the full year to evaluate since he sits at the bottom WR spot on my roster but geez, catch the damn ball. Talent ain't #### if you can't catch.

From a Wk 7 Roto start/sit column

Antonio Callaway at Bucs: It’s been a forgettable rookie season for Callaway to this point. He’s been credited with four drops by Pro Football Focus, but one could argue he’s muffed maybe double that amount. The good news is the targets keep coming because the Browns are so incredibly depleted at receiver with Josh Gordon shipped out of town, Rashard Higgins in week two of a sprained MCL recovery, and Derrick Willies breaking his collarbone. Rod Streater was also just lost last week to a season-ending neck injury. The Browns have no choice but to keep playing Callaway, and he was in on a season-high 97.3% of the snaps last Sunday against the Chargers. He saw 10 targets, but again was unable to turn them into much, gaining nine yards on two catches. Callaway should have had a long touchdown but lost the ball in the sun and dropped another long pass in the second half. Normally, I would stay as far away as possible from a player like Callaway, but the volume is there, he’s on the field a ton, and the matchup this week is as good as it gets. The Bucs have been the laughingstock of the league defensively and just fired DC Mike Smith. Tampa Bay is dead last in pass-defense DVOA and 31st in fantasy points allowed to receivers. They simply don’t have a competent secondary. Taylor Gabriel (7-104-2), Nelson Agholor (8-88-1), and Ted Ginn (5-68-1) have all smashed against the Bucs, with regulars like Michael Thomas (16-180-1), JuJu Smith-Schuster (9-116), and Julio Jones (10-143) all having monster games. We simply want players on the field who are getting opportunities in our lineups against this defense. You can do a lot worse than Callaway as a bye-week fill-in for owners of Packers, Steelers, Raiders, and Seahawks wideouts. The 50-point total for Browns-Bucs is the fourth-highest of the week.

Antonio Callaway caught 1-of-2 targets for 14 yards in Sunday's Week 7 loss to the Buccaneers.

The two targets were the fewest that Callaway has received in a game since Week 1. He now has three or fewer receptions in every game on the season but one. Callaway has now reeled in just 9-of-23 targets for 99 yards over Baker Mayfield's four starts. Callaway is not a fantasy option heading into Week 8 against the Steelers
I think Ratley got 3-4 for 23 yards. In a spot where you expected a team blowup Mayfield faceplanted. Targets are notable because if Callaway can't get guaranteed volume he's not startable.

He has not been startable for even 1 game this season even with the 10+ target games.   Let’s face it he’s horrible.  He’s got hands of stone and he sreads butter on them before each game.

Higgins’ (MCL) continued absence locks in Callaway as Cleveland’s No. 2 receiver after the drop-prone rookie ran 35 routes to Ratley’s 30 in last week’s loss. Callaway drew a season-low two targets, however, and Ratley three in a passing game dominated by Landry and Njoku. As Callaway runs more routes on Steelers RCB Artie Burns’ side of the field and Ratley will see more of LCB Joe Haden, Callaway is the preferred dart throw.
Roto piece. Play at your own risk, even in a shootout game.

Not starting him so expect a 70 yard TD.
Browns rookies have won 5 of 7 rookie of the week honors.

Oh brother.

Antonio Callaway was recently pulled over for speeding

Posted by Mike Florio on October 27, 2018, 10:42 AM EDT

Typically, it’s not really all that noteworthy or relevant when an NFL player gets pulled over for speeding. (My views in that regard changed once I purchased a car that can go really fast, even though I almost always drive it within the confines of any and all posted speed limits.)

But with Browns receiver Antonio Callaway, the situation is a bit more complicated. He has a pre-NFL history that caused him to slide in the draft. And he has a training-camp citation for marijuana possession that but for his immense talent could have gotten him fired.

According to TMZ, Callaway was pulled over for going 58 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. It happened while Callaway was driving to the October 14 game against the Chargers.

Unlike his August incident, there was no marijuana or gun parts in the car. Still, for a guy with a few strikes, it’s never good to have another incident. Even though he’s still good enough for the Browns to find a reason to look the other way on what for others would be strike three.

Antonio Callaway caught 5-of-6 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 8 loss to the Steelers.

Callaway managed to find the end zone for the second time this season, catching a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter as he battled through a defensive pass interference. Callaway has had an up-and-down rookie season, catching 21-of-48 targets for 236 yards and two scores through eight games. Callaway is not a fantasy option heading into Week 9 against the Chiefs.
Well, he was a dart throw and if you played him you doubled out. He did get 6 targets and gets another soft matchup next week.

Antonio Callaway (ankle) is active for Week 9 against the Chiefs.

Callaway was cleared after making in through pre-game warmups. He's not 100 percent after rolling his ankle in practice this week, so it possible Callaway will have a scaled back role. Rashard Higgins (knee) is also active for the first time since Week 5.

Antonio Callaway caught 5-of-7 targets for 35 yards and one score in Cleveland's gritty Week 15 victory over the Broncos.

Only one week after he saw a single target in Cleveland's sluggish 45-play victory over the Panthers, Callaway bounced back against the Broncos by hauling in the game-winning fourth-quarter score from two yards out. His seven targets were second on the team behind Jarvis Landry's mark (8). Callaway has developed immensely over the second half of the season, shaking off obvious bonehead rookie tendencies that forced him off the field during the first half of the year. He'll be a WR4/deep-league flex candidate against Cincinnati's injury-riddled secondary in Week 16.

No catches yesterday.

The Browns  took an early lead and weren't in catch-up mode.

Callaway wasn't used much but he did have some single coverage but Baker really wasn't going long-ball yesterday.  His longest completion was on a missed tackle to TE David Njuko and the other long ball came on a trick play from WR Jarivs Landry to WR Breshard Perryman.

Nothing really damning against Callaway, he wasn't used much,  didn't get looks or game script, and Perryman has overtaken him as the primary deep threat.

Antonio Callaway had his minor marijuana charge dismissed.

Callaway paid $911 in fines and received a year monitored probation for driving with a suspended license, but his minor misdemeanor possession charge was dropped. It's good news from a legal standpoint, though Callaway is in Stage One of the league's substance abuse program and could still face a suspension. The Browns believe Callaway's off-field issues are behind him. Callaway led Cleveland with five touchdowns as a rookie and has potential for a sophomore year leap.

what is Landry's contract like? maybe he walks and he slides over to his starting spot in the near future?

Landry and OBJ are buddies, I doubt they get rid of him. They want Mayfield to have all the tools he needs. Calloway is the WR3 and that's fine for them in real life terms.

Browns coach Freddie Kitchens believes second-year pro Antonio Callaway has "added some explosiveness."

"He is in good shape relative to what he was in last year during training camp," Kitchens said. It's mostly just coachspeak, though also more believable than usual in Callaway's instance since 2018 was his return to the gridiron after more than a year away due to suspensions. Callaway flashed tantalizing ability as a rookie but was also wildly mistake-prone as he was thrown into a bigger-than-expected role. He is a classic breakout candidate as a sophomore, but Odell Beckham's arrival seriously dents his potential fantasy upside. Callaway would do well to earn WR4 value.

Really hope he steals Landry's role but I doubt it due to contract things.  Still love the talent though.

Really hope he steals Landry's role but I doubt it due to contract things.  Still love the talent though.
Landry's contract has a dead cap hit of $18.5 million this year with a negative savings of $4.445 million for 2019 so obviously he's not going anywhere this year but next year...

.... the dead cap hit goes down to $4.5 million with a net savings of $10,050,000 in 2020.  His base goes up from $12.5 million this year to $13 million next year but the lower cap hit makes him movable.   LINK to details of Jarvis Landry's contract from  Over The Cap

The Browns are spending more on the WR position than any team in the league.

No team will spend more on WRs in 2019 than the Browns

No team will spend more on wide receivers in 2019 than the Cleveland Browns.

Thanks to the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. to a group that already includes big-ticket Jarvis Landry, the Browns currently have more salary cap dollars and percentage of spending on the wide receiver position than any other team. Per Spotrac, Cleveland has allocated $36.2 million in 2019 payroll to wideouts. The Indianapolis Colts are next in line at $32.5 million.
Calloway has oodles of talent but he had trouble hauling in passes.  He has to clean that up and keep flashing because the Browns are spending an awful lot of cap at the WR position and I'm sure they'd love one of the young guys to step up to provide some salary cap relief.

Baker Mayfield has been impressed with WR Antonio Callaway this offseason.

Mayfield said, "We have been very pleasantly and very happy with how he came back from the offseason ready to go. Just how quick he is and you can tell he has been working on his craft." The Browns are excited to get Callaway against CB3s this season with Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry receiving most of the attention, but targets will be slim for the second-year receiver. Callaway will be a low-end, boom-or-bust fantasy asset as a deep threat for Mayfield.

Speaking Thursday, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said Antonio Callaway reported to camp out of shape.

Per Kitchens, Callaway "needed pushing." He apparently had his best practice of camp on Thursday. Kitchens' words come two days after the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Callaway had "consistently been part of the second team." We now know why. It's surprising after Callaway drew strong reviews for his work in OTAs. Callaway is still the clear favorite for No. 3 duties behind Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry.

He’s never going to see significant coverage because of ODB and Landry will man the slot.

Probably won’t be rostered in most redraft leagues. Presents a great dart throw in games that are “perceived shootouts”.

The other option is Higgins, but Callaway should be able to pass him rather easily IMO.  That is if he has dedicated himself.
:goodposting: What I would have posted but in addition, after OBJ & Landry, the field is wide open IMO. Mayfield is going to get EVERYONE involved in the offense. If you're open you best be expecting the ball. No lie there were guys catching TD's I'd never heard of before and will probably never hear of again. The kid is an equal opportunity employer when it comes to spreading the love around.

NFL suspended Browns WR Antonio Callaway four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the ban stems from an incident last year when Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. "I take full responsibility for my actions," said Callaway in a statement released shortly after the suspension was announced. "I know there's nothing I can say to regain trust; it will be about my actions." Callaway has been running with the backups at Browns training camp, likely in anticipation of his ban. The league upheld Callaway's suspension upon appeal, meaning we won't see the second-year wideout on the field until the Browns travel to San Francisco for Monday Night Football in Week 5. Callaway's absence should afford Rashard Higgins more snaps opposite Odell Beckham with Jarvis Landry operating as the Browns' primary slot receiver.

The Chronicle-Telegram reports Antonio Callaway has a high-ankle sprain.

This puts his availability for the rest of the preseason in doubt. Callaway may now not be able to practice until his four-week suspension is up. It's an obvious blow to his redraft value, though Callaway has enough talent to make an impact when he returns. Rashard Higgins is the favorite to fill in for Callaway.

Antonio Callaway has been reinstated from his four-game suspension.

Callaway is through serving his four-game ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy and should be active for Cleveland's upcoming Monday night showdown with San Francisco. His return should push Damion Ratley back to the bench. Rashard Higgins, who had originally been the favorite to replace Callaway during his suspension, hasn't seen the field since injuring his knee in the Browns' opening-week loss to Tennessee.
