Antonio Gates (1 Viewer)

On the season, Gates has 65 targets. He has caught 50 of those targets (that's a 77% reception rate). He has turned those 65 targets into 782 yards and 10 TD's. He's averaging 12 yards per target and 0.15 TDs per target (put another way, he is scoring a TD every 6.5 targets. Finally, he is averaging 15.6 YPR and 0.2 TD per reception (or scoring one TD for every 5 receptions). I'm sure somewhere there are numbers that we can compare these to, but it has to be up there as one of the most efficient seasons of all time, and probably at the top of the list for TE's. It's a shame that he has been injured--without the missed time, I've little doubt we'd be looking at one of the best seasons of all time, not only for a TE but for any pass catcher.

Somehow (if he's not too busy), I'm guessing we'll have some stats to add to this discussion soon:

Given the fact the he doesn't have blazing speed, his ability and receiving technique are probably only rivaled by the absolute greats (Rice and ???). You simply throw it near him and he gets the ball. It's uncanny.

When he gets "open" (which he does a lot) throw it to him. When he doesn't get open, throw it to him anyway - he's just pretending not to be open.

He's the only dependable target in SD. With the exception of his injury-ridden weeks this year, he's more valuable than the vast majority of receivers. I feel like a fool for failing to draft him in any league this season...I'll be looking his way with a 4th round pick next year, if it appears his foot has healed.

So you'll be looking at one of your opponent's lineup cards?
