Antowain Smith with a nice 46 yard run

5 carries 61 yards, and oh so close to a td

Im sure against a lot of 2nd stringers from Tampa, although i dont know that.

Could we be overlooking a legit #1 on a team that has shown they can run the ball

With all the Wali posts, I thought this could be something to discuss.

Not like the other two have much of a proven track-record. I could certainly see him eating some significant carries in what will be a 3 way split. I also don't see DD coming back this season.

I doubt it. I thought it was already announced that Lundy would be starting week #1 and splitting with Morency and they were sitting out? Smith is playing for a roster spot and could get a chance if Lundy and Morency faulter. I'm not 100% sure but that is what things were sounding like to me.

I ride shotgun on the Twain Smith bandwagon....but....

CBS is now reporting the rumor that Houston may be looking at Ron Dayne

A. Smith is playing now only because 2 other RBs are not even suited up to play. They didn't suit up Lundi and Morency cause they are their guys this year and they don't want them to get hurt.

A. Smith has not been a real RB since the Pat's first Superbowl which is a lifetime ago in RB years.

Well with Gary Kubiak force feeding him wheaties, i thought he just might be someone to keep an eye on....

Ill go back to bedroom, and stare at my Wali poster.....

After tonight's performance by A.Smith and Chris Taylor, I seriously doubt they will have interest in Dayne. Kubiak was interviewed on tv at halftime and he was quite pleased on the rb performance tonight. Taylor has been a favorite of Kubiak's during training camp. The tv announcers indicated that 4 rb's should make the team and they believe that Taylor has a good chance. Worst case scenario was that Taylor makes the practice squad.

A.Smith is road fodder for Kubiak right now. It was announced that both backs would be rested...A.Smith might even get cut...maybe not but possibly.

I guess the answer to the original question is a definite "no" now.Link

shameful bump.....

The Houston Texans have announced that they have released the following players: DEs Jeff Charleston and Earl Cochran, LBs Sam Cowart, Kenneth Pettway and Courtney Watson, FSs Kevin Curtis and John Walker, CB Mark Estelle TE Aaron Halterman, OGs David Loverne and Chris Watton, FB Nick Luchey, fullback, QBs Cody Pickett and Quinton Porter, WRs Richie Ross and Jake Schifino, RB Antowain Smith, CB Tramon Williams and DR Darrell Wright. The Texans have moved LB Kailee Wong to the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.

Good thing, as this was gonna be a "you heard it here first" post

i blame :banned:

Depending upon who else they cut and if they do any other roster maneuvering, it's not impossible that Smith ends up on the roster. For example, DDavis is one of the 55 but may go on the PUP list or on IR (I hope not). Not sure who else they have that is banged up that could be designated on one of the injured lists . . .

Plus Smith could always catch on eleswhere. The past couple of years he wound up getting some work late in the season with the Titans and Saints. Not much value in small leagues, but in deeper leagues he still could be worth a roster spot (again, in deep deep leagues).

As I have indicated earlier in this thread and other threads the past few months, Chris Taylor is one of the best RB deep sleepers in the NFL. Don't be surprised to see him starting by the end of the season. I said the same about Dom Davis in this forum and the replies I received were "are you crazy".

Count me in the group that will be VERY surprised.

From what I read in the local paper the other day, Davis can't be placed on the PUP list because he passed a physical before training camp (sorry I don't have a link). The local buzz is that Davis will be one of the final 53 and be inactive the first few weeks. If his condition has not improved, then they'll IR him. They may look to add another RB after this next wave of cuts (please don't be Ron Dayne).
