Any Cadillac Williams survivors (1 Viewer)

Thanks to Ahman Green, I was fortunate enough to make it to my league's champioship game despite having Cadillac on my squad. I've hung onto him for insurance, and because of his week 16 matchup @ Cleveland.

Cleveland has allowed the following rushing stats the last three weeks

Week 13: KCC - 32 RU, 124 YDS, 3.9 YPC 0 TD

Week 14: @ PIT - 52 RU, 303 YDS, 5.8 YPC, 2 TD

Week 15: @ BAL - 35 RU, 142 YDS, 4.1 YPC, 1 TD

LJ, FWP and J. Lewis each went over 100 yards in those games.

The Browns defense is extremely beat up. Starter Roye (DE), DQ Jackson (ILB), and Russell (FS) have all been recently placed on IR. CB's Gary Baxter and Daylon McCutheon were palced on IR earlier this year. Plus ILB Andra Davis left last week's game with a concussion.

Cadillac is a couple yards shy of 800. A couple big games would get him over 1000 for the season. I don't know if that will play a factor, but I guess it can't hurt.

For me, my other option would be Ahman Green (other starter is LJ), who has a tough matchup vs. MINN.

Anyone else out there considering starting Cadillac? If so, over who?

I'm starting him, but mainly out of necessity due to injuries.

Still, I like his chances better with Rattay back there, although the downside is Alstott if/when they get inside the 5 yard line.

This should be a game where Cadillac gets 20+ carries and whenever he gets 20+ carries he does well.

Whether Gruden has any commitment to the running game is the question. To me, that's the greatest variable here.

I think Cadillac is no worse than a decent RB3 this week with the potential to be a strong RB2. I think he could get 85+ yards if given the opportunity by Gruden. A touchdown is almost certainly out of the question.

Plus, if Alstott is considering retirement, you'd think Gruden would give him every opportunity to score. I'd be happy with 100 yards from Cadillac.

I'm starting Caddy and Cedric Benson in my finals this week with my other options being Warrick Dunn, Sammy Morris, and Vernand Morency (16 team league).

I think that Rattay being back there helps him exponentially. My Browns are a mess. I think this may be the week for a TD for Caddy, with about 80 yards mixed in. I'll take it.

Cadillac starting as flex over 2006 studs like Reuben Droughns, Randy Moss, and Mike Furrey

His match-up against the Browns looks like a good one. Gruden will probably show Alstott some love inside the 5 but he also needs to get some positive momentum for next year. This is the game for Cadillac to quiet some naysayers.

I'm alive, but I gotta go with Marion Barber. He's done wonders and I hope it pays off Xmas day.

I am considering Caddy because my other option is Thomas Jones and TJ is nicked and Chicago has nothing but momentum to play for.

Here's an article about Cleveland LB Andra Davis: LINK

He had an MRI for his concussion. It is still early, but Crennel's comments had a tone of optimism. With the Browns other starting ILB (DQ Jackson) on IR, I'll feel better about starting Cadillac if Davis is out as well.

Caddy should have a good game against the Brownies. Rattay gives thier offense more balance and the Tampa defense should be able to hold the turd offense down enough to keep Williams busy.

Gruden is always a worry though..

I may go with Caddy over Chester Taylor as my flex this week but I am not yet decided.

He's questionable for this week. From RotoWire:

Williams did not practice on Wednesday due to a foot injury and is questionable for Sunday's game at Cleveland, according to the Buccaneers' team web site. According to the report, Williams suffered the injury during the Buccaneers’ overtime loss at Chicago last week. After Wednesday's practice, all head coach Jon Gruden would say is "he's questionable and we hope he gets better soon." If Williams can't play against the Browns, as of now, the Bucs plan to split their rushing chores between Michael Pittman, Mike Alstott and Earnest Graham.

This comment about him doing well when he gets 20+ carries made me want to take a closer look:Week 5 vs. NO 20 carries 111 yards 0 TDWeek 7 vs. PHI 23 carries 82 yards 0 TDWeek 11 vs. WAS 27 carries 122 yards 0 TDWeek 14 vs. ATL 20 carries 48 yards 0 TDTotals: 90 carries; 363 yards; 0 TDs (4.03 ypc)Average: 22.5 carries; 90.75 yards, 0 TDsBased on the four times this year where he did get 20 carries, your estimates are pretty close to the average, but I'd still say that only 50% of the time he got 20+ carries that he did well, and he definitely didn't do anything great. If you are in a position where you're in the championship game and you have Cadillac, then hats off to you, but it seems to me like those numbers he's averaged when getting 20+ carries probably aren't going to win the game for you.

I guess it all depends on what you expect. If I can get 80+ yards a week out of a RB I'm going to take that without question. Project that over a 16-game season and that's nearly 1,300 yards rushing. Nothing wrong with that at all. The touchdowns are trickier to project in most cases - with Cadillac this season it's easy; he isn't going to get any unless he busts a long run - so what I look for is yardage. And when Cadillac gets 20+ carries he has been good for yardage 75% of the time. Going back to last season he did not have a single game under 80 yards rushing when he got 20 or more carries and only two games under 95 yards. So when you look at his career (brief as it is) he has ranged from good to outstanding when given 20+ carries in a game. I'll take that.

This game shapes up as one where he should get a lot of work given how bad the Browns' run defense has been. Being questionable obviously is a red flag so we'll have to see if he can return to practice Thursday or Friday. If he doesn't play at all, maybe Michael Pittman becomes a sleeper pick at RB this week. Alstott is probably looking pretty good either way to vulture at least 1 touchdown.

Being questionable is definitely a huge red flag and without a doubt should be a factor for those making a decision.

But if injury weren't a factor, then I think if I had other options such as Ahman Green (like the OP) or Cedric Benson, I'd go with them in a heartbeat because I don't think a 90 yard 0 TD game will win the championship, given that your opponent likely has some big guns to have made it this far.

This could also boil down to differing philosophies, like you said Packersfan ("it all depends on what you expect"). At this point, it's a one-game season, so to me projecting yardage out to 16 games doesn't really apply to whether or not to start him in a championship game. This week you need a home run, and Cadillac has done nothing this year to prove he can deliver. To me, players like Furrey and Chester Taylor (other names I've seen mentioned in this thread) give you a better shot at winning then Cadillac.

But seriously, I can't stress this enough, hats off to anyone who has survived Cadillac this year and is playing in their Championship game.

I think Cadillac would have a shot at a 100-yard game if he was healthy this week. Whether that constitutes a home run is up to each owner to decide. The rest of the week's practice schedule should settle all of this. If Cadillac doesn't practice; there's no way he should be started in my opinion. If he returns to practice and remains questionable, he's probably still not worth starting given how he has a foot injury. But if he returns to practice and is upgraded at any point during the week I think he'll become a viable RB3 option.

Yo, right here. Took SJax in the first and Caddy in the second, thinking that would be a lethal 1-2 punch. Just glad I picked up K Jones in the 5th to be my "backup" RB. Now I'm in the championship game and have to decide between Caddy, Rhodes, or Turner. Leaning towards Rhodes... :lmao:

 I agree with you, Packersfan. Good points.

Seems like this Cadillac discussion is becoming a moot point anyway judging from this Gruden quote from this article from the blogger:

Either way, the Bucs are preparing for the likelihood that they’ll have to spread the carries around a little bit more on Sunday.

“You’ll see a little bit more of [Michael] Pittman and you’ll see more of E.G. [Earnest Graham],” said Gruden. “And you’ll see some more of Mike Alstott, that’s for sure.”
p.s. Good luck with that decision if Caddy doesn't play, jbird.

My money would be on Pittman

Buc Homer... I would not start Cadillac unless I had absolutely zero other options.

At first he wasn't getting carries because the offense kept playing from behind... now he's not getting carries simply because Gruden doesn't want him to get hurt in a needless game. He wasn't splitting time with Pittman and Alstott because they were better, but just because there was no reason to play him.

Gruden isn't dumb and Cadillac isn't bad... they just want Joe Thomas real bad.

Any word on if Caddy practiced today? I'm leaning towards Ahman Green now with this injury talk.
He didn't practice. No way he should be started this week in my opinion. From RotoWorld:Carnell Williams missed a second straight day of practice Thursday with a bruised foot. After a decent mid-season run, Williams has been held under 50 rushing yards in six of his last eight weeks. His litany of injuries just isn't going away and he was in a protective boot Thursday, "Maybe [i’ll practice] tomorrow, once I come out of the boot and see how it feels," Williams said.Source: Tampa Tribune
