Any Garcon owner's concerned? (1 Viewer)

So 2 targets against the Giants in a game where the Colts ran the ball a lot because the defense invited them to, and even so the offense still supported 3 targets in the passing game, tells you all you all the sgns of potential futility you need to know to assess Garcon?

If so, then methinks you already had made up your mind going into this game.
Sorry good buddy, but I have to take issue with this, because this is close to being flat out misleading. While it's true the Colts ran the ball more than they had the week before (which, considering Manning had a career-high in completions the week before is not saying a ton) - they did throw the ball 26 times.

Wayne - 9 targets/7 receptions for 96 yards and a TD

Clark - 7 targets/5 recptions for 83 yards and a TD

Collie - 4 targets/4 catches for 25 yards and a TD

Addai - 3 target/2 catches for 21 yards

Garcon - 2 targets/ 1 catch for 11 yards

The point is not that the Colts ran more (although that does of course reduce Garcon's targets as well - especially important given his low catch%) - it's his place on the list - 5th.

The combination that he is not the #1, #2 or even #3 option in the passing game, combined with his poor catch % is the concern - and has been, going back further than just these past two games.

The bolded part could also apply to Garcon owners who want him to be the #2 option...but that wont make it the case.

A couple things:

As other have pointed out... Garcon seems to be dropping the ball. It started last year at the end of the year.. as Collie came on--Garcon got fumble fingers when making catches he should have brought in. Stil had some solid outings.. but drops were an issue.

This year it continues... and the killer part of that isn't that he's dropping it... its that Clark, Wayne and especially Collie are NOT dropping it as much--so Manning has better options that he trustsand is going to goto them more (has been so far). Garcon either turns it around or I agree w/previous posters A Gonzales will be back in the lineup when he's healthy and Garcon will be benchwarming...

so yes--I'm worried... infact if a WR pops up who seems like a good prospect... b-bye Garcon.

As the Garcon turns.............now he sits this weekend. Meanwhile Wayne gets Champed and Collie continues to shine. This was probably the worst case scenario for Pierre. How much closer are we to Gonzalez if we are at all?

Wait till he gets healthy and they start having games when they need to stretch a D. Then Garcon will be just fine.

color me concerned now. when some practice squad player comes in and puts up numbers garcon has not to this point... not a good sign.

albeit, defenses will probably adjust to more coverage for collie... but garcon will have to produce with catches

his window of opportunity is closing in my view... hopefully not in the Colts/Manning's view...

If you are willing to make the assumption that Garcon > the practice squad guy, then he has a month to be in for as many plays as he is used to and to re-establish himself before Gonzo returns. If he hasnt had a big game by week 6, then he is in real trouble. But I'd expect him to have that big game...if he's healthy.

Speaking of which, did he practice fully Tuesday?

I am not one to say I told you so, but the following on Rotoworld reminded me of this thread (which, even though I warned about this 6 weeks ago, is pretty much what I was trying to point out):

According to metrics from Football Outsiders, Pierre Garcon is on pace for the least effective season by a Colts receiver since 1999.

Garcon's struggles with drops are no secret, but he's having a miserable season all-around. Garcon's catch percentage has fallen to 47, which is almost unheard of for a Peyton Manning receiver. He's also just 4-of-14 on third downs, with half of those targets coming on passes of just 2-7 yards. One could posit that Garcon is due for a strong finish, but Austin Collie is simply the superior player.

For those interested in the article Rotoworld is referencing:

Here you go.
