Any leagues credit the GB Def/ST with a shutout? (1 Viewer)

Either the position needs to be changed to reflect an entire Team or in situations like last night, the Defense/Special Teams needs to be credited with a shutout, no?

Why should the Def/ST be penalized for points the offense gave up?

I'm actually going up against the GB defesne this week, but was just curious if any leagues actually score it this way.

I thought that a couple of years ago Yahoo scored it like this.

EDITED To ADD: In the Yahoo leage I am in.... the GB ST/DEF was credited with allowing 1 point. The PAT that the Vikes made against them.

I play in 2 local leagues that use team Def/ST's. One counts any score as points against, the other does not count defensive scores as points against (so Green Bay would get a "shutout" in this league).

I like the way Yahoo does it actually - the defense/st only gets the pts they are on the field for and actually give up. In this case, that would be the XP. No shutout, but not 7 pts, just one.

This may sound "unfair" because they didn't give up the initial TD, but it's really not that different than if the offense turns it over already in FG range.... You would (and should) still get "credit" for those 3 pts against your Def/ST.

i had GB's de and they got 7 pa. It cost me 4 fant points. it really is a stupid real if any league is set up this way. makes no sense whatsoever. aj hawk and company and nothing to do with favre and his wr having a meltdown!

I agree - shouldn't count for 7 points against, but it also shouldn't be a shutout as I said above.

In No Mercy it should be scored as a shutout. Their rules state offensive points allowed though.

None of my other leagues scored it that way since they are set up for points allowed by team, not just the defense.

Per CBS

DST Packers, DST GBNews: The Green Bay Packers defense did not allow a point, but the Vikings were able to score on a defensive play to spoil the shutout in Week 16 on Thursday night. The Packers allowed just 104 total net yards while getting three sacks from Aaron Kampman and an interception of rookie QB Tarvaris Jackson.Analysis: Unfortunately for Fantasy owners, the DST will not receive points for a shutout because of the interception return by DB Fred Smoot of the Vikings. While the defense is not charged for the points in real football, in Fantasy leagues the DST is charged with the points even though it was scored against the Green Bay offense. The Packers will look to continue their strong play in the regular season finale in Week 17 at Chicago.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, what if the offense gives up an interception and allows the defender to get all the way to the 1 yard line before stopping him. The defense then comes in and holds on 3 straight plunges only to let them score on 4th down from the one.

Defense takes the blame for giving up 7 points. Hardly seems fair.

I hate team Defense/ST but it's a part of almost all my leagues. I'd rather eliminate it or go IDP...

The teams offense affects the defense, like this year I knew that Baltimore defense would be a heck of a lot better than last year mainly cause I knew their offense would be better with McNair. Same goes for the Bears with Grossman instead of Orton.

It is possible to change your scoring system in CBS's commissioner options to account only for scores when the DST was on the field. I know, because my league didn't do it this year because the commish couldn't figure it out until I explained it to him halfway through the season. Next year, it'll be implemented.

To play devils' advocate again...

What if a QB throw an interception, and on the interception return, the defense fumbles and the offense picks it back up. The defense/ST of the offense gets credit for a fumble recovery. So if the above is true, why wouldn't the defense be penalized for a return for a TD by the offense? After all, if they can gain points, they should lose points as well.
