Any leagues do their draft on Thursday before the game? (1 Viewer)

Ever since the NFL started opening the season on a Thursday my main league has held the draft our draft that very night.

Tommorow night the draft will be at my home as usual. 5:30 start 12 teams. 10 of 12 teams will be present..the other two are out of state and wil be online.

We usually finish right before kickoff and turn our lineups in..then we all just party and watch the first game. Nothing better than getting doen with your draft just as the season is kicking off. Last year 4 ended up spending the night because they were so trashed.

We used to always have it on Labor Day weekend but so many of the guys have kids now that half the league could not make it.

My main 14 teamer drafts at 5pm on the day of the first game every year, wouldn't want it any other way.

Dodds - still time to release From the Gut!

We tried it a couple times, but with work and stuff things didn't get started til 7 or so and then we ended up missing most of the game. So now we moved it to the day before.

We do our big money auction draft the saturday after the thur night game. Just seems to work for everyone better even though there is a game played as we have guys that travel to it and we make a golf/draft weekend out of it.

Doesn't affect a whole lot might add a few dollars to a player that might have went a hair cheaper if he plays well thur night. Also you might get a guy that pays for a no name guy for one week just to play him for the points he scored thur night then dump him the week after. Might pay a dollar for Sproles and play him for the week if he busts a 80 yard screen pass or something.

I always thought it would be fun to do a draft the Saturday before the first Sunday games. Never seems to get off the ground though.

I'd imagine getting lineups in in time for that game would be tricky.
We're actually not drafting until this coming Saturday due to some scheduling issues. The way we are going to handle the stats from the Green Bay - New Orleans game is below. You could use the same logic for people drafting Thursday if their draft extended into game time. The commisioner would be able to alter line-ups if necessary as well.
Since we will be drafting after one game has been played, this is how it will work pertaining to your Week 1 starting line-up. Any player drafted as a starter* for your fantasy team that played in the Green Bay - New Orleans game will be in your starting line-up for Week 1 no matter what and any player that was drafted as depth* will not be in your Week 1 line-up. This should not effect that many players. * The following players are considered "starters" for the purpose of this rule, any other players are considered depth. The first QB drafted by your team. The first two RBs drafted by your team. The first two WRs drafted by your team. The third RB or third WR drafted by your team (whichever comes first) is your starting Flex player. The first TE drafted by your team. The first kicker drafted by your team. The first defense drafted by your team.Once again this is only for Week 1 and it's done to be fair to your opponent. For example if you drafted Drew Brees in Round 4 as your starting QB and he tanks in Week one you should not get the benefit of hindsight and bench him that week when you wouldn't have normally. Conversely if you draft Donald Driver as your 4th WR, and he scores 2 TDs in Week 1 - while argiably you may have started him on a hunch,it's not fair that you get the benefit of knowing his results. Of course that doesn't stop you from drafting Driver earlier than you "should", if you want to grab a player that goes off Thursday Night early, go for it.

Have always done our auction draft on that Thursday. We (try to) start around 6:00, get through a few rounds of players and beer, and half hour before game time, we stop the nominating process and auto-nominate all players from the two teams in the game. At kickoff, you must name any player on one of those teams as either starter or bench. We then continue the auction as normal while the game starts.
