Any Truth To These Statements Re The Deep Web? (1 Viewer)

I registered a new gmail account and with that, registered a new Twitter account. I am having some fun with some guys in a golf tournament.

Is there any way he can figure out my geographic location using the following method?

Number One:

The beauty of being a geek .. I mean a true computer geek ... Is that when you go into the deep web (Google the deep web) using TOR browser ... You can see that the IP addresses of the Twitter feeds and gmail account ... Rookie behaviour because no real attempt to hide or camouflage identify ... as they both show the same geographical location ... The slip was made right away ... Also got the Twitter login password !!!!! If I was not exhausted I would totally hack (Jesus who uses hack anymore) the Twitter account ... Not even encrypted !!!!!
Number two:

I am actually not kidding ... If creepy gets too creepy ... I can shut this down very quickly ... Jesus just run a dos traceroute command on the header of the gmail account (if you are receiving in Outlook) then Google the IP !!! I made sure the IP is not masked and you can see geographical location ... Twitter was even easier ... Maybe I am I overreacting ... I cannot give you a name yet ... But have original Twitter login password so even if it is charged I can trace the request for change ... And now it cannot be masked !!!!!

And another:

Not really yet but tomorrow when I am not on an iPhone (so rookie) I will provide you with the originating email account that the Twitter account was started with (if it matches the gopher email I will be uoet as no challenge) then we can use an app I know to request the password (even though I know it ) and that will give us the register name !!!! From there we simply check google !!!! As it is gmail account and there was no attempt at all to fake sending IP from either ... That I know for sure from an app I have on TOR .. So whatever gopher golf says ... The original mistake was made with the gmail sign up !!!!!!

If you make no effort to hide yourself, then it is not hard to track your general location by IP. Still wouldn't be able to get more than an pretty general location down to the closest substation for whatever Internet service you have,

He has me then. I am the only one from Chicago.

That's cute. "General location" means you're traceable to "only" +/- 5 meters on the X, Y and Z axes.

He could be trying to protect me as we are buds and he knows I know nothing about technology. I sent him the following:

lol Dude

I am just having a little fun with the gophers and you're going to wreck it.
They completely overreacted to one statement I made.

Can you please come up with some excuse as to why you can't trace my IP address? Maybe say it comes from Bangladesh through a proxy server? I have to assume that most of what you wrote was BS--but I don't know. Just trying to have some fun.

The one lesson I learned from Chet is that making no sense at all will probably get you rich at some point

I'd say it's more precise than that if he got the google info and location service is enabled.

Shouldn't you be working on getting off the boat. Wasting battery life to mess with friends is not endorsed by Bear Grylls.

Is what he wrote about "hacking" the twitter account true? I can't believe it's that easy.

If it is literally that easy to hack twitter accounts, people would be hacking an NFL analysts account to post false information for an edge in daily fantasy.

Yeah, I don't dare mess with the dark/deep web. I heard they're legit assassins and all types of serious criminals on there. Probably best to let it be.

However, I did hear it's fairly easy for a hacker to take over the camera on your laptop or pc without you knowing.

Google "free online proxy" and cover your tracks a little. You can also download and install TOR and it will bounce you all over the internet, again making it harder to trace you. Any email you send without using a proxy has a header, within that header your IP info is stored, so it's not hard to trace you to your ISP. The ISP will only give up your info with a court order. Even with a proxy you can be traced but it is much much harder to do.

How does this not make sense?

I anonymously trolled some buds. One got freaked--he wasn't sure if I was a real hacker or not. Another guy offered to out the troll with some tech speak that I didn't understand and I asked for clarification.

If you want my opinion I would take the claims seriously. Just creating new accounts doesn't cover your tracks at all, especially if you made them from the same computer and location as your other accounts.

ETA: You wouldn't need to go to the dark web to just find out that you are tweeting from Chicago.
