Any word on Westbrook's ankle? (1 Viewer)

Last I heard, he was questionable with an ankle sprain, and sounded "optimistic" he'd play against KC this weekend. If he's out, is McCoy a must-start? And if so, where is he in the rankings of this weeks RBs?

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Brian Westbrook (ankle), Donovan McNabb (ribs) and DeSean Jackson (groin) will all miss practice Wednesday.

No surprise here. Westbrook and Jackson are day to day and expected to be OK for Sunday. McNabb is making progress but Kevin Kolb is expected to get his second career start.

(RotoWire) Westbrook (ankle) is considered day-to-day, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Analysis: That's Twitter for "Westbrook will be listed as questionable" for Week 3's game against the Chiefs, a scenario we've seen outlined on plenty of Mondays in the past.

Ried on Westbrook from Philly Inquirer - Eagles coach Andy Reid said there “is a chance” that Donovan McNabb could play Sunday against Kansas City and he was hopeful that Brian Westbrook could work through his lingering ankle problems. McNabb said he feels "pretty good" but he isn't sure if he will be ready to play Sunday

......

......

Westbrook suffered a high ankle sprain in the third quarter. After some treatment, he returned to the game for one play and then came out again. The injured ankle is the same one that needed a cleanout procedure in the spring. Reid said Westbrook has a “little swelling” in the ankle today.

“He hasn’t played much in a game,” Reid said. “Everything is a little faster in a game. He’s doing that, going through that process. It’s important that he keeps working through it. He’s working like crazy with the trainers. He gets frustrated a little bit. He wants to be out there every snap. That’s just not the way it’s going to work here right now. He has to gradually work himself in there right now.”

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Brian Westbrook is day-to-day with a right ankle sprain, but the injury will not require an MRI.

This is the same ankle that Westbrook had surgery on in June. Peter King is hearing that Westbrook should play against the Chiefs Sunday, but it's unlikely he'll practice this week as Reid admitted that there is some swelling in the ankle. LeSean McCoy could get some significant carries this week.Source: Jeff McLane on Twitter

Sports Illustrated's Peter King is hearing that Brian Westbrook's sprained right ankle is not bad and he should play this week against the Chiefs.

Considering this is the same ankle Westbrook had surgery on in June, there has to be some concern. But after the game both Eagles coach Andy Reid and Westbrook downplayed the injury as a tweak. Westbrook probably won't practice this week, but thats the norm for him. Rookie LeSean McCoy will take the reps.Source: Peter King on Twitter

I dont think this injury is a very big deal and I dont see why they would rest him just because they play KC. With Kolb at QB and McCoy at RB and a gimpy Jackson there is no way this game is a guarantee and the Eagles cant afford to lose.

This is 100% speculation here, but after doing the projections on this site for many years now I tend to see how some of these teams think.

Week 4 is Philadelphia's bye week. Philadelphia should be able to handle Kansas City at home without Westbrook. Right now I am projecting McCoy to get the bulk of carries, but my gut tells me Westbrook won't play at all. They let him rest now and he gets another week because of the bye.

I still think Desean Jackson will play though (also just a gut feeling) because they still need to try and win the game.

And if Westbrook scratches, McCoy is a MUST-start

Even if he plays, chances are good he reinjures it. They did say HIGH ANKLE sprain, which is much worse than your typical ankle sprain. If you have other options you should consider. I will be starting either McCoy or Felix Jones over him.

its not a high ankle sprain despite what it says above

No source. Every single report Ive read said he tweaked his ankle and that it was not a high ankle sprain expect for that one article above.

Eagles coach Andy Reid indicated Sunday that he doesn't believe Brian Westbrook's right ankle sprain is serious.

Reid confirmed that it isn't a high ankle sprain, but Westbrook admitted to reporters afterward that he couldn't make cuts on the ankle. "It’s a little sore," Westbrook said. "I think I probably tweaked it a little bit." This is the same ankle Westbrook had surgically repaired this offseason, costing him most of training camp. He may be held out of practice all this week. I'm a Westbrook owner and I have to think this would be the best scenario for him. He would have all of this week, next week and part of the following week to rest the ankle and even his knee.

This is the NFL. Anything can happen and Philly is already playing without their starting quarterback. Coaches/teams who assume they'll win based on opponent and rest dinged up studs accordingly, don't stay on the sidelines long. No way Reid will bench Westy if he can go just because he thinks Philly should win anyway, which I assure you he doesn't.

Latest from CBS

Brian Westbrook, RB PHINews: Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that the swelling in RB Brian Westbrook's right ankle has gone "way down" and considers him likely to play vs. Kansas City in Week 3 based on his progress through this point. Westbrook did not practice on Wednesday as he deals with a day-to-day prognosis on the ankle. When asked if he was optimistic about Westbrook's chances on Sunday, Reid said, "we feel pretty good about it today."Analysis: This is good news for Westbrook's Fantasy owners since he'd be expected to take on a sizable portion of the offensive workload, possibly in a 60-40 or better split of the rushing duties with rookie LeSean McCoy. We'll keep you posted on Westbrook's progress throughout the week but feel free to pencil him into your active lineups for his excellent matchup against the Chiefs. McCoy would fill in as a low-end No. 3 option in the deepest of leagues if Westbrook started.

I'm half tempted to friggin' start both Westbrook AND McCoy, no matter what any reports say(or will say by Sunday).

I knew what I was getting into when I bought a ticket for The Westbrook Express this year, and it's not my first ride on it either, but I'm hating this again already.
