Anybody have stomach issues/constipation? (1 Viewer)

My wife has been battling stomach issues since she was a teenager. Constipation is a constant problem. Doesn't poop for a week sometimes.

She has been tested for Crohns desease (negative). She's tried probiotics and that didn't help.

Basically, unless she eats a salad and water she's toast. She's loves beer and that kills her. Last night we had pizza and today she's almost doubled over at her desk.

Anybody else have experience in this? Help !

TIA

Short term, use Miralax, should clear things out in a day or less.

Long term, eat more non-grain high fiber foods and/or use Citrucil daily - do not use psyllium based fiber supplements, the psyllium can end up staying in your gut and fermenting resulting in serious gas/gas pain.

She should reduce refined grain intake to a minimum to avoid this situation as that's what's happening - the grains are staying in her gut, clogging her up and fermenting which causes wicked gas pain on top of the constipation. Pizza is the absolute worst thing she could eat - the cheese/refined grains combination really binds you up and in her case adds fuel to the fermentation process.

She has a slow digestive system.

She probably has a small allergy to dairy.

I bet if she cuts put dairy. Boom explosion

Orange peanut butter crackers (definitely not the natural color ones), and a few swigs of peptobismo.

Report back on poop hue.

I had the same problems until I bought one of these 7 months ago. Life changing. My vegetable intake went from maybe 1 serving every few days to about 5-6 a day. No more problems. Took about 2-3 months for my body to adjust.

Last year at this time I was dealing with the same stuff your wife is dealing with now. My doctor said summer is the worst time for stomach issues because people get dehydrated and don't know it. Dehydration plus lack of fiber causes constipation. I had been dealing with these problems my whole adult life it seemed. Doctor took an ex-ray and it showed my transverse colon was almost entirely blocked. The pain comes from food you eat having to squeeze around the impacted areas. For years the doctor kept harping on me to eat more fiber. Finally the light came on late last year. Now every day i eat (well, drink) spinach, beets, carrots, banana, broccoli, cucumber, all kinds of seeds (chia, pumpkin, hemp, flax), frozen blueberries, unsweetened coconut with a little unsweetened almond milk. Never felt better. If she's eating stuff with very little fiber and then drinking beer (which is going to dehydrate her), that's going to cause her the issues she's dealing with now. The Blendtec basically allows you to drink that salad/water that she needs to not be constipated and feel miserable.

It got so bad for me last year my doctor had me take magnesium citrate, which cleaned out those impacted areas. Never pooped liked that in my life. Immediately felt better but it's a whole morning spent on the toilet. That's a one time thing though, not to be taken regularly. The uptake in fiber and water is the every day cure.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I have no idea why I haven't asked this question here years ago.

I'll pass along this info to her.

In earnestness, I have tons of stomach issues. Constipation is not one of them, so I can't help you. Only time I get constipated is prescribed opiates.

We actually have one of those and I make her a shake every morning. I'll look into adding more fiber. Thanks Willie.

You can buy the liquid magnesium citrate in any drug store for just a couple bucks. Put it in the fridge and drink the whole thing (cold because it'll taste much better) before bed on a night when her entire morning is free. I think it'll be better to make sure she clears out what's impacted in there now before she drastically increases her fiber intake. If her colon is all impacted and then you add a ton of fiber she is going to feel awful. Even with a clear colon she can expect bloating and gas for a few months until she gets the flora in her gut to break everything down. Think of it linked a clogged drain. Remove the clog first and then put things in there to help prevent future clogging (or stop putting things in there that will clog it again). Of course I am not a doctor and if she's really feeling awful she should see the doctor to rule out more serious stuff.

If you have that actual Blendtec with the wildside jar, that sucker will pulverize anything. I fill it all the way up every day (with a little unsweetened almond milk) and watch it turn whatever is in there into a smooth drink. Today was spinach, arugula, broccoli, beets, carrots, blueberries, banana, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds & unsweetened coconut. It was delicious. If you told me last year I'd be eating all that stuff every day I wouldn't have believed you.

What he said. miralax is a great product. It can also be used intermediate to long term without any issues. Buy store brand to save $$, it's exactly the same.

I was completely serious. I have similar issue
I know you were and I value your opinion but she doesn't really do much dairy.

She mostly eats salads and vegetables with water. Beer does her in and shes guilty of that. She might have Chic-fil-a once a month, if that. My wife and Kids haven't eaten McDonald's in at least 5 years. The kids and I might get Roys 6 times a year but she won't. Pizza once a week would the most egregious food she consumes. And the beer. She'll go through a case in a week.

As I typed that last sentence it kinda strikes me as a lot. I'm not a big drinker so I don't really notice. Hmm....
