Anybody thinking of benching Brandon Marshall on Mon night (1 Viewer)

I know some people say always start your studs, but I just read that Dallas and their CB's are only allowing 137 passing yards per game and if I'm correct have only allowed one receiving touchdown in that span. The Bears O-line stinks and Cutler hasn't exactly been lighting it up. I curious to see what other folks are doing with Marshall this week?

Always start your studs.

I will be playing him and not looking back.

My bench options aren't the greatest though. Crabtree's my only viable backup.

Starting nicks and simpson over him
This is sort of my thinking... They've shut down Nicks, Cruz, and V. Jackson and I can't see why they can't/won't shut down Marshall as well with the way Cutler has been playing with that Bears O-line.

I will be benching him in favor of Percy Harvin, Stevie Johnson, and Hakeem nicks.

He will be my backup for Nicks if he is unable to go on Sunday night.

This has more to do with my situation of wanting to get nicks into the game than it does benching Marshall. In order to guarantee I get another top wr into my game, I needed a solid backup plan for nicks...and I don't think Stevie is a huge drop off from Marshall.

I really don't like the matchup with the Dallas' DB's, so I'm considering benching him going by what him and Cutler have done the last two weeks. It also depends who you have to replace him with. I could choose between Desean Jackson or J.Simpson, not sure if I have the stones to sit Marshall for either one of those guys this week.

One thing to consider is I 'think' Marshall has a good history of producing on Monday Night/Sunday Night primetime games, not sure of that without stats however.

I have to start 2 WR's out of Harvin, Marshall, T. Smith, and Malcolm Floyd. Harvin is cemented in as my one starter, and usually Marshall is cemented in as my second starter, but this matchup is really tough. Holding teams to 137 passing yards a game is no joke!

Brandon Marshall is also the only guy to consistently produce vs. Revis. You can bench Marshall for other reasons (underperforming w/ Cutler, better options, etc), but I wouldn't bench him purely out of fear of matchup.

As much of a disappointment that he and Cutler have been so far, I would be hesitant to bench him. It would really depend on what your choices would be to fill in for him. I'd still lean towards keeping him in there. Especially if it's a PPR league.

No offense to some...but does Marshall qualify as a stud in never bench your studs?

Only once getting 10 TDs in a season (in 2009 in Denver...and no, it was not with Cutler).

Out of his first 3 games in Chicago...he has one great game, a terrible one, and one mediocre.

Is that really a stud that you "never bench"?

That said...Id need a very good option and matchup to bench the guy because he has the potential with Cutler to be the main guy and put up good numbers even against Dallas.

But I would not bash anyone for starting a guy like Stevie Johnson over him.

Keep an eye on the Cowboys safety situation. Carr may end up back there.
This is the key, with Barry Church on IR the secondary is not the same. Dallas played great against the NY Giants, but I'm pretty unimpressed with the Seattle and Tampa Bay games. Those two offenses rank 29th and 32nd in total yards so I think Dallas' D probably looks better on paper than it actually is.That being said I have utterly no idea how this game is going to go. Both teams seem to have the ability to explode or wilt without warning. I can see the score being 3-9, 10-28, or 35-28 with either team being the winner or loser. I'm guessing whoever has the most sacks wins.As for Marshall being a must start stud, that's debatable I guess. In the past 5 years his worst year has been over 1,000 yards receiving so he seems like a very high floor guy at minimum with top 5 potential. Most people feel the Chicago offense is underperforming, yet among NFL WR's he ranks as:9th in targets16th in receptions23rd in receiving yards22nd in receiving TD'sIn my league he wound up as the WR #21 in 2010 and WR #10 in 2011 and theoretically has a higher upside in 2012 than he did in Miami. If Marshall gets 6 catches for 99 yards and no TD's against Dallas he would be exactly on pace with his 2011 performance through the first 4 games.

maybe, but im guessing whoever has the most points comes out on top.

Jenkins looked as good as he ever has last week, against Vincent Jackson. If he can keep that up - return to pro-bowl form - I am not worried about Carr playing safety. Scandrick is a very solid nickle corner.

Really? Did you not see him against Green Bay the other prime time night? Maybe I'm asking for it, but I'm starting him anyways.. but not exactly comfortable with it

FYI - Gerald Sensabaugh was quoted in the Dallas papers today that he will definately be playing Monday night.

That helps Dallas at safety so Carr can play just CB.

I have Marshall and will be sitting him this week. The Dallas defensive line is strong and should put a lot of pressure on Cutler. Also, Cutler embarrassed the Boys last time and they are "extra" pumped up about getting revenge.

Getting Sensabaugh back is huge plus for Dallas. As for the revenge factor, that was over 2 years ago so I doubt anyone really cares. For the record I have Marshall and am starting him. I'm expecting anywhere from 50/0 to 125/2.

He's top 10 in targets. His QB looks for him all the time. He's big and his QB looks for him in the redzone. He was not a "stud" in Miami but when he was reunited with Cutler, common sense told us he would get his chances. So far through 3 weeks common sense is correct and he's one of the most targeted WR's in the NFL. We're only 3 weeks in and I'm not taking the "stud" label off the guy yet. He'll get more shots to succeed than other WR's who are currently ahead of him in points.

Marshall is a nice WR3...but nothing more. This week, however, he is a clear bench player in all formats, unless you are desperate at flex.

Hate the matchup but I am not benching my studs. Made the mistake last week with Jamal Charles. Chris Johnson is the only top 2 rounds pick that I would bench at this point, regardless of matchup. Barring injury.

Spin off from another thread.

Was it skill to bench him because you recognize the matchup problem and unlucky that Marshall actually went off?

OR

Was it skill to "always start your studs?"

Answer: You'll never know ;) .

I know some people say always start your studs, but I just read that Dallas and their CB's are only allowing 137 passing yards per game and if I'm correct have only allowed one receiving touchdown in that span. Well,,,,,he beat their recieving YPG with 138 and tied their TD total by himself. And yeah, I started him.

I kinda miss him being on my team now.. scored more with the players I traded for, but still, I'm a Chicago homer.. miss the guy..

I sat him for Decker and would do it againg considering the matchups both players had and the QB's they both have, that TD by Marshall was blown coverage, no way you're gonna predict that. The way him and Cutler played the last two weeks and the way Dallas DB's have been playing anybody that had better options at WR was gonna sit the guy tonight, as they should. If Marshall is a "always start your studs" type player, anybody that did that the last two weeks with him got burned, as I'm sure you did, if you played him tonight I'm sure you played him the last two weeks when he did nothing. I'm sure he cost people wins two weeks ago when he dropped that sure TD that hit him in his hands against Green Bay too...

I started Rudolph as my flex instead of Marshall and it cost me the game. League format gives bonus yards to TE's and Rudolph projected for more by most sites ... figured it was safer in what should have been a strong win. Then Locker scores negative, Martin stinks, and Megatron doesn't come up big wow ugly day. I don't think I made the WRONG call ... but if Rudolph played Sun night I would have sat him for Marshall once Locker got hurt (and Martin stunk) and I knew I needed big. Frustrating to take a 0 from your QB and still have a winning "best" lineup!

140 Qb rating for Cutler. How did that "extra" pumped up work out for the Cowgirls?

I can't believe people here really benched a player like Marshall. And not even for highly attractive alternatives. Crazy. It's like some people have never played FF before. Plug your starters in every week. Accept some weeks are dogs but there will be more good than bad. By getting cute with matchups you risk missing the big games which makes absorbing the previous bad weeks even worse.

Marshall has owned Revis consistently in the past. NEVER bench Marshall if Cutler is throwing the rock. Also Dallas got fat with Sea and TB passing games....

I hope you sat him tonight, because you dont deserve all the points he put up since you were ready to bench him! This is why you ALWAYS START YOUR STUDS!!!
