Anyone else concerned about Steve Smith? (1 Viewer)

One reception for 9 yds vs. OAK, then 6 for 59 last week. No TDs either week.

I'd like to think this will improve, but in the next 6 weeks he's facing GB, TB, and NYG who are ranked 1st, 2nd, and 4th in receiving defense (ypg). Delhomme doesn't look so hot but the running game does.

Is it just because they haven't HAD to pass?

Thoughts?

I've watched almost every Panthers game over the last several years. Jake Delhomme is having one of the worst slumps of his career. That's the problem. Will it turn around? I have no idea. But Smith is as fast and sure handed as ever. Delhomme is just horrible right now. :kicksrock:

not worried.. they ran the ball at will last week. why would they bother passing when they have both backs going for 100 yards?

Not having to pass =/= being horrible at passing. Have you seen Delhomme play the last couple weeks. Its got nothing to do with not NEEDING to throw.

i'm not gonna go into panic mode when he's had 1 bad game (against the premier corner in the NFL) and an average game.

I've been trying to trade Smith this season in a dynasty league. The bottom 2 teams who are very thin at WR would not give a 2009 1st round pick for him. And the Ronnie Brown owner would not trade him straight up.

I don't think Smith has much value due to his extreme up/down performances on a week to week basis. Sure he'll get you a 20+ point game once in awhile, but there are plenty of single digit games in between.

As long as Jake is the QB I don't think things will improve. Having no knowledge of his contract, is he likely to still be a Panther next year?

The Panthers are playing some good teams upcoming. If anything, I think Smith will do well, considering they'll likely be needing to throw to stay on some of those games. The Panthers didn't need to throw the ball against the Raiders.

My concern is that the Panthers have turned into a run first offense, and that Jakes throws have been all over the place the last few weeks..no zip on the ball.

Steve Smith is very consistent this year scoring in double digits in 7 out of 8 games. (11, 21,16, 17,24, 28, 2, 13). I dont know what's not to like about that consistency. Everyone has a bad game 1 of every 3 or 4 games. I'd easily give up a 1st round pick for STeve Smith assuming the pick is not a top-5 pick.

Sorry, but in my non-PPR league he's scored 7, 15, 9, 13, 20, 25, 0, 4 in the 8 games he's played. That's 4 games over 10, and 4 games under 10, and 1 game with 0 points. He's on track to barely make top 15 this season, just like last season. As long as Jake is at QB he'll never finish top 5 again. That's why I'm trying to shop him around any time he has a big game.

I'm not worried about Smith but I am concerned about his production. I am sure John Fox is happy as a clam to have two backs running well. I also believe that Jake is not a solid as he was a couple of years ago. I don't think you can ignore a part of your offense for a few weeks and expect it to just snap back into place on demand. Jake and his receivers need to be making the connection in real games. Fox has to keep trying to explore all his offensive possibilities or it could come back to bite him down the road. One dimensional teams don't go very far in the playoffs.
