Anyone else notice that none of the late games this week are in HD? (1 Viewer)

I paid an extra $100 this season for that stupid Superfan package just so I could get the games in HD and have noticed over the course of this season that at least two games each week are not presented in HD. Now this week it looks like none of the late games are in HD according to my channel guide.

I don't understand this. I know they are being recorded in HD b/c when they come on the red zone channel it's in HD.

Am I the only one who is pissed about this issue?

Can anyone explain to me the logic behind this policy?

Yes. It's a plloy to motivate Tatum Bell.

(Don't mess with me filters)

According to the schedule I received from DirecTv via e-mail this morning there are 5 late games this Sunday(no Sunday night game) and all 5 are in HD.

Interesting. I don't get that email. Maybe my channel guide is just incorrect. But that said, why are there a couple games each week in standard def? Someone once told me it's b/c they don't have HD cameras on the field for those games, but that is a crock. Like I said, when these same games appear on the red zone channel they come in HD.

???what's so funny? the red zone channel cycles through all the games as the teams enter the red zone. a couple weeks ago the saints game was not in HD, but when they entered the red zone and the game cycled onto that channel, it was in HD. So I know the capability was there - directv just chose not to broadcast it.

Somebody else had this problem before. Either youre not realizing that some 4PM games overlap with 1PM channels or there's something wrong with your box. Do a search as someone else had the same exact complaint and had to call in to get it fixed.

The games that are not in HD still come up on the HD red zone channel but they are not shown in HD. The usually have bars going up the sides of the screen with red zone HD on them. This was not true for the Saints game a couple weekends ago. No HD option for the game itself, but when it cycled onto the RZ channel it was in HD. I'll have to pay attention to the non-HD games this week to see if this is true for other games.

DirecTv only picks up the feed from the networks. If the network televises in HD it's shown in HD. I have no explaination for the red-zone issue. Perhaps the saints game was still in SD but just looked sharper on the other channel, just a guess though. DirecTv can send out the image in what's being called HD light if they receive it in SD,perhaps that was the case.

They piggyback the HD games on some channels. The SD games each get an individual channel. The HD have 2 games on some channels(1pm and 4pm)

The reason behind it is that CBS doesn't have the HD equipment to handle a full slate of AFC games. FOX broadcasts all of their games in HD this year, but CBS cannot afford to buy the equipment necessary to broadcast EVERY game in HD.

That is what I have heard.

And that is a load of BS. CBS had the same problem last year and did the same # of games in HD. Maybe they should have put another set of cameras in the budget for this year.

Yeah, I don't get it either. But I can say with 100% certainty that the Saints game in question was in HD on the RZ channel but not on the directv broadcast. I know this b/c I have multiple identical TVs set up in the same room for Sundays. My buddies and I were watching that day and noticed this with that game. it would be on one TV, then would come on the RZ channel at the same time and it was obvious that one was HD and one was SD.I'll check for this again this weekend with the Cle/StL game.

Was it the NO-CAR game?

This is true that each week there are a couple of CBS games that are not show in HD. Direct TV just takes the feed from CBS and FOX. Actually I recall it being as many as 3 games that were SD only in a given week but I didn't keep a record of it.

I do recall though that I thought the NFL overall contracts with CBS and FOX required that the networks broadcast all of the NFL games in HD no later than the 2007 season. I recall reading that when this same issue was brought up in 2006 (i.e., just wait until next year because all games "have to" be broadcast in HD). So it would seem perhaps that the NFL has given CBS a "waiver" on this requirement as it is an important objective of major sports to ensure that all of their national broadcasts are available in HD ASAP.

That was me and I had a receiver issue that was solved after a few resets. Not all games are recorded in HD. When they are on the redzone, it's shown on the HD channel, probably at 720 res. It looks better, but it's not a true HD signal. I can't imagine why all the games arent' shot in HD but there are at least fewer this year than last year. When you watch highlights on an HD channel, the games that weren't in HD are very clearly not in HD. I'll take a look at the redzone this weekend but if the network isn't broadcasting it in HD, then it isn't being shot in HD.
